Abstract

The aim of the research was to analyze whether Whatshapp Messenger (WA) was effective to be used in teaching speaking descriptive at the tenth grade of MAN 4 Kediri. This research was quantitative research approach, whereas the research design used was posttest-only control-design. This research used two classes which became experimental group (MIA 3) and control group (MIA 4). In experimental group was taught by using Whatshapp Messenger, whereas control group was taught without Whatshapp Messenger. The instruments used in the research was written test. The procedure lasted 3 meetings and 1 meeting to do test. The result of t-test showed that: the mean score of experimental group (M = 81.15) was higher than control group (M = 70.29), and independent-samples t-test which values of the sig. 2-tailed was 0% or 0.000 and 0.000 < 0,05. Thus, it could be concluded that Whatshapp Messenger was effective in teaching and learning of English speaking descriptive text. This result suggests that the speaking aspects which the students significantly outperformed were (1) Pronunciation (2) Vocabulary (3) Grammatical (4) Fluency (5) Comprehension and (6) Expression.

Abstract

Using YouTube as media is one of the ways to teach speaking. Using YouTube as media help students to be better independent English speaker and makes the students easier in learning English. The main purpose of the study is to examine the effectiveness of using YouTube as media on students’ speaking score of the eleventh grade IIS-2. Quantitative was selected as a research approach, whereas the research design used was Quasi Experimental by using posttest-only design. This research used two classes which became experimental and control group. The experimental group was taught speaking using YouTube as media, while the control group was taught using picture as media. To collect the data, post speaking tests in experimental and control group were administered. Data were analyzed by using t-test. The findings indicated that score of the experimental group higher than the control group. Thus, it can be concluded that using YouTube as media in teaching speaking is effective.

Abstract

This research is aimed to know whether there is significant correlation between grammar and vocabulary mastery toward speaking skill among the seventh grade students of MTsN 1 Kediri. The design of this research was descriptive quantitative. The sample was 194 students. . The research instruments in this research were tests and questionnaire. The result was there is significant correlation between grammar and vocabulary mastery toward speaking skill among the seventh grade students of MTsN 1 Kediri. The value of correlation between X1 and Y is 0,46, then for correlation between X2 and Y is 0,234. It is recommended for the teachers to pay attention to the students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

This study aims at knowing how effectiveness of oral pair work technique in teaching speaking at DEC. The research design which is used in this research was descriptive quantitative experimental with two groups of experimental class and control class. The subjects of this research were the holiday program of SMA A and SMA B. The instruments used were post-test. The data gotten were statistically computed by SPSS.The result reveals that experimental group outperformed the control group with significance value 0.2% or 0.002 at either 5% or 1% significancy level. So, it can be concluded that teaching speaking by using oral pair work technique is effective.

Abstract

Speaking is one of the most difficult aspects for students to master. Students need more practice to master speaking skill. Question word usage can be one of the solutions to stimulate students’ critical thinking in speaking in order the students can make sentence properly. This research aimed (1) to analyze the students’ speaking at experimental class which has been taught by using question word, (2) to analyze the students’ speaking at control class which has not been taught by using question word, (3) to analyze the result between students’ speaking at experimental and control class and (4) to analyze the effectiveness of using question word in teaching speaking. The sample of this study was 37 students taken from the third month those of Language Center Pare Kediri, which were 19 students as experimental class and 18 students as controlled class. They were the students of English Master Program who were in the third month study at Language Center Pare. The method used in this research was a quantitative method. The research results showed that question word or questioning strategy helped the students to achieve a greater improvement on their speaking esspecially their critical thinking in speaking. The result of this research can bring new views and knowledge which can be spread up to other teachers.
