There are many factors, and one of the factors influencing job satisfaction is leadership behavior. The purpose of this study is to determine the association between socio-demographic and the leadership behavior of nurse managers on job satisfaction based on the perception of registered nurses in a selected private hospital, Malaysia. A crosssectional descriptive study involving 161 registered nurses using convenient sampling with self-administered questionnaires and using Leadership Behaviour Description Questionnaire (LBDQ) and Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). There was no significant correlation between socio-demographic data and job satisfaction with the Pearson correlation of (r < 0.3, p > 0.05). However, the result showed that there was statistically significant between leadership behaviour and job satisfaction with (p < 0.05, r = 0.572, p = 0.000 and r = 0.531, p = 0.022). Leadership behavior serves as an important aspect in nursing to determine job satisfaction and address nurse shortage issues in the future. Hence, staff development and monitor the leadership behavior among the staff to provide them a piece of measurable concept pertaining to leadership behavior at least to let them understand their progress to becoming an effective leader.

Abstract

For both nurses and patients, effective pain relief management is critical. Relieving patients’ pain and suffering are considered the responsibility of nurses. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted. The Nurses Knowledge and Attitude Regarding Pain Questionnaire was used to measure the nurses’ level of knowledge and attitude toward pain assessment and management. The results showed a lack of knowledge among nurses regarding pain relief management. It started with the fundamental question regarding the usage of the vital sign as reliable indicators of the intensity of a patient’s pain. 90.6% (145) of the nurses answered ‘True’, but the correct answer was ‘False’, and only 9.4% (15) of the nurses gave the correct answer. We found out that 60% (96) of nurses believed that patients should not receive opioid treatment even if they are in pain. This study discovered that the level of knowledge on pain relief management among nurses in the private hospital was inadequate. The patients should receive appropriate treatment to relieve the pain regardless of their history of substance abuse. This perception on the nurses could prevent some of the patients from their right to being pain-free.

Another effect of domestic violence toward wives is reproductive health disorders causing sociological disorders. This paper brings up how to provide proper handling of domestic violence cases while many of its victims do not receive justice. The research method is conducting interviews in West Medan Precinct by using the empirical normative research method. The result is to provide proper education relating to domestic violence cases, specifically towards the victims who are affected psychologically and physically. Thus, the nurses should assist the victims either while doing medical, health, or psychological activity. Also, other parties, such as family, police, district attorney, advocates, social institutions, or protection from the court, should be active in protecting the victims from domestic violence.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the number one death caused to women. The higher mortality rate is because the patients are diagnosed at the advanced stage. The cancer patients do not know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and cannot do a breast self-examination (SADARI) because the cancer education in the community is insufficient. Delaying in detecting breast cancer will delay the treatment. This research aims to explore the delay factors of early breast cancer detection. It used a literature review approach with 4 electronic databases, including Google Scholar, Pubmed, Garuda, and Perpusnas, with published years of 2015-2020. The keywords are delay factors, detection, medical checkup, treatment, and breast cancer. Of 892 identified articles, only 9 articles fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The reviewed articles are the researcher and supervisor's discussion and validation using the Prisma Guideline. The 9 articles show delay factors of detecting breast cancer, including education, knowledge, income, information/mass media, husband/family support, health service center distance, health facilities, treatment cost, alternative treatment, age, pain, and fear. The research concluded that the 12 factors causing the breast cancer patients late in receiving treatment and already in advance stage cancer because they did not do breast cancer detection.

Prolanis Exercise exercises were used as the data collection tool. The results showed that there was an effect of prolanis exercise on decreasing blood glucose levels in people with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in the working area of the Namu Ukur Health Center with a value of 0.004 (α<0.05). Before treatment, blood sugar levels were an average of 270 mg/dL and 257 mg/dL after the treatment. Patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) should carry out regular physical activities in routine such as prolanis exercise.

Abstract

Asthma is a disease caused by disorders in the respiratory tract due to allergies or genetics. It cannot be cured, but it can be controlled. With medical treatment and proper self-management, asthma patients can achieve a good asthma symptoms control level. One of the factors affecting asthma control is knowledge about asthma. This study aims to determine the correlation between knowledge of asthma and asthma symptoms control level at Medan Pulmonology Hospital. This research uses a descriptive correlation research design. Seventy-three respondents were selected using a simple random sampling technique. They are the asthma patients in the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of Medan Pulmonology Hospital. This research also used questionnaires of knowledge and asthma symptoms control; then, the results were analyzed. The study results indicated that most asthmatic patients were categorized as having less level knowledge of asthma with 38 respondents (52.1%). In addition, most asthma patients have uncontrolled asthma type with 37 respondents (50.7%). This shows that there is a correlation between level knowledge of asthma and asthma symptoms control level with p = 0.034. Furthermore, Nurses can use this study to provide nursing care and control asthma symptoms to asthmatic patients.

Abstract

Preschool children have weak and imperfect immunity systems making them prone to ARI (Acute Respiratory Infection) diseases. One of the causes is family's member smoking behaviour which causes the number of ARI cases in preschool children. This research aims to determine the coherence of family members' smoking behaviour towards ARIs cases in children aged 3-5 years old. It used a cross-sectional study design and purposive sampling techniques with 34 children. The population of this study is the preschool children within the working area of Kampung Baru Community Health Center, Tanjung Balai city. The research results showed that the smoking behaviour of the family members is categorized as heavy smokers. The ARI cases showed that most children prone to the ARI diseases. Also, the significant coherence of family members' smoking behaviour towards ARI cases in children aged 3-5 years old showed a value of p - 0.0001 < a = 0.05. This research suggests that the Kampung Baru Community Health Center should keep providing health education and socialize the family to not smoke around the children to prevent ARI cases to them.
