Abstract

This research aimed to investigate how the information gap technique improved students reading comprehension on narrative text to the 8th-grade students. This research was conducted by using classroom action eesearch. The subject of this research was the 8th-grade students in class VIII C. In collecting data, the writer used an observation checklist table, field note and reading test. The result showed that the students’ abilities to comprehend narrative text improved through information gap technique. It was shown by students enthusiasm to pay attention, and followed every activity during teaching and learning process used information gap technique as teaching a technique. It can be concluded that information gap technique can be used as a technique to improve student's reading comprehension on narrative text. Keywods: information gap technique, reading comprehension

Abstract

This study was intended to investigate the students’ inquiry process reflected in doing drama activity. The study applied classroom ethnography. The writer spent seven weeks making ethnographic observations and field notes related to doing drama activity, noting what the students do before, during and after the activity. An in depth interview was conducted to 3 participants. The criteria of chosen participants was their performance during the project. They were considered to have more information. The interview aims to know how each phases fit into the overall context of the inquiry process. The findings show that the inquiry process in doing drama activities are reflected in group formation, selection of drama’s title, making synopsis, devision of roles, rehearsal, costume and propery preparation, and drama performance.

Abstract

Even though nowadays technological developments have contributed a lot to the ease of translation, problems in translation will always be encountered due to differences between the source language and the target language. This article aims at identifying techniques of translations used in a Youtube ad. In analyzing the data, the writer applied a content analysis method with a qualitative approach. The findings show that there are 8 categories of translation techniques namely literal translation, transposition, modulation, amplification, established equivalence, generalization, linguistic compression, and adaptation with modulation as the most common translation technique used.

Abstract

The focus of this research was whether teaching writing recount text to tenth grade students at Pemulutan's State Senior High School 1 could be accomplished using mind mapping. This study applied a quasi-experimental design. The use of random assignment is not used in quasi-experimental designs. In the academic year 2021/2022, the population of this study consisted of all tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Pemulutan. The students in tenth grade at SMA Negeri 1 Pemulutan were chosen as the samples, which have been taken using non-random sampling. The experimental group was class (X.2), while the control group was class (X.1). The value of t-obtained was 3.42, and the value of t-table was 2.060 at a significant level of 5%, according the results of t-obtained. Because the t-obtained value was higher than the value in the t-table. The study focuses on finding that teaching writing through mind mapping enabled learners to get higher scores based on the post-test experimental group's and post-test control group's results It was discovered that training tenth grade children to write at SMA Negeri 1 Pemulutan through mind mapping to enhance writing was effective.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop and implement learning models in order to be useful in the learning process. It can make students more active in learning because of the variation in teaching. Development research is used in this research that aims to produce the development of a “Project Based-Learning Model” plus DVD to improve the Students' English Ability in International business administration student of Darussalam Polytechnic. The model of development is adopted by Borg and Gall Model starting from collecting information, development of an initial product, 1st expert validation, 1st product revision, 2nd expert validation, 2nd product revision, tryout, and final product. The Experts’ English Material validation concludes that formulation of learning objective, content, material selection for development of “Project Based- Learning Model” have got a category of Excellent. The validation of the Expert of Media concludes that the final product of DVD has been appropriated with the aspects of learning media that are feasible to be applied.

Abstract

The goal of this research was to see if there was a significant difference in reading comprehension between students who were taught using the Multipass technique and those who were not. The participants of this study were from SMA Negeri 2 Tanjung Raja in the eleventh grade. The data was gathered through a written test. The T-test was employed to analyze the data. The value of t-obtained was 4.4790 at the significant level of p<0.05 and the degree of freedom (df) was 62, according to the results of the independent sample test. Because the value of t-obtained (4.4790) was higher than the critical value of t-table (2.000), it was determined that there was a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between students who were taught English reading comprehension using the Multipass technique. By employing the Multipass strategy, students can improve their reading comprehension of expository text.
