Abstract

The prevailing literature and empirical studies on organizational performance management stress the increasing importance of non-financial performance measures and propose companies implement an integrated performance measurement system. The purpose of our research is to investigate the characteristics of performance measurement and management in various industries. This paper discusses the published literature related to the Performance Pyramids System (PPS), focusing on the latest progress in the 18 years, starting from 2002 until 2020. This paper involves the study review of 50 articles related to PPS implementation of available database search, including Google Scholar, Elsevier, Science Direct, and other publishers in the world. This literature review contains results from a variety of different perspectives. The perspective includes the industry's focus, the focus of the number of distribution by country, the year of publication, and the number of publishers. This is useful for all types of manufacturing industries to find solutions to problems. The paper also provides advantages for researchers next to add to the literature. The aims of this study are: (i) to identify the most discussed approaches in the literature to evaluate the organizational performance, and (ii) to carry out a diagnosis of how small and medium enterprises with economic activity in several countries measure and operationalize the evaluation of their performance. To meet the study's objectives, we analyzed published studies in scientific journals and conducted twelve interviews in SMEs. The results indicate that, in addition to the majority of the studied organizations not having a formal process of their strategy, they also do not measure their products in an integrated system that would allow them to evaluate according to their strategic goals.

Abstract

Parametric ranking and selection in water absorption process of composite development are obligatory as they guide on resource distribution during the planning phase of composite development. However, the present literature model seems inaccurate as the PROMETHEE method fails to offer the likelihood of structuring the water absorption problem making it challenging to achieve a concise problem viewpoint and assess the results without difficulty. In this paper, the DEMATEL method is introduced to assign weights, revealing a cause and effect mechanism to overcome the aforementioned problem. The coupling point of the DEMATEL method-PROMETHEE method is at the weight determination of the DEMATEL method and the net outranking results are the final output of the model. Based on literature data, the DEMATEL method produced weights of 0.182, 0.114, 0.290, 0.242 and 0.244 for the parameters of final weight, initial weight, length, thickness and time, respectively. The PROMETHEE procedure yields the outranking results of -0.2166, -0.2742 and -0.0079 for the length, thickness and time, revealing time as the best parameter. The proposed method is user-friendly, complete in outranking, successful in real-world applications and capable to establish the cause and effect series constituent of the complicated water absorption system. The usefulness of this research is to help composite developers to achieve effective distribution of resource and decision regarding priority of parameters, leading to lean and effective manufacturing outcomes.

Abstract

To enhance the job performance of engineers in the oil and gas sector, their knowledge and skills should be constantly updated through knowledge sharing. Perceived behavioural control and attitude have been identified as factors that contribute to effective knowledge sharing among employees. However, very little is known about perceived behavioural control and attitude toward knowledge sharing in the Iraqi oil and gas sector. Therefore, this study investigates the relationship between engineer’s perceived behavioural control and attitude on their intention towards knowledge sharing in public oil and gas firms in Iraq. To participate in the study, 240 engineers from oil and gas companies in Iraq were randomly selected. A questionnaire designed in a Likert scale format was used for the data collection. The data were analysed using descriptive statistical analysis and Correlation analysis. The results of the analysis show that there is a positive relation between engineer’s perceived behavioural control and attitude on their intention towards knowledge sharing in public oil and gas firms in Iraq. The study makes some recommendations on how to increase engineers’ perceived behavioural control and attitude and eventually increase their intention towards knowledge sharing.

Abstract

Benchmarking is a systematic and continuous process by comparing the products, processes, and results of an organization with other similar organizations. Benchmarking is generally done by comparing it to an organization that has a better level because it aims to provide input for internal improvement in the organization so that it becomes better than the position before the benchmarking was done. Educational institutions also need to carry out a benchmarking process as this can contribute to determining learning and promotion strategies, improving the learning process and curriculum development, improving physical infrastructure facilities, improving operations, performance. In this study, the method used is a literature review of 35 journals, then the classification is done based on the country and the type of benchmark performed. The results show that until 2020 the benchmarking process is still being carried out and continues to be carried out in various countries, both in developed countries to developing countries. However, from the literature that has been reviewed, there are still gaps to examine the strengths and weaknesses of higher education in terms of implementing the digitalization of educational systems, the quality of graduates with a digital education system, and implementing digital libraries in universities. Types of benchmarking processes and benchmarking strategies can be carried out to research the implementation of digital education, this is because it is a type of benchmarking process and strategy that can determine global competition.

Abstract

Previous research has examined how the safety conformity of a bottling process plant may be analysed from the lens of machine guarding usage by operators. To advance knowledge, this study pioneers how to optimize safety conformity for all operations using binomial motivated Taguchi method. Secondly, for the first time, this study analyzes the performance of segments in safety conformity of bottling plant segments using multicriteria methods. Development of binomial motivated Taguchi method includes data gathering, calculating the binomial distribution, determining levels and factors, orthogonal arrays, and the signal-to-noise ratios. Computations are made of optimal, global and specific parametric settings. The multicriteria models used entropy for weight determination and indices were obtained for 12 evaluation periods. The optimal parametric setting is obtained as A3HT-A2S-A2O-A3C1, which is -1.92E+02 for segment 1, 1.29E-01 for segment 2, -1.15E+02 for segment 3 and -1.52E+02 for segments 4 and 5. The specific optimized values (SOVs) of workers shows that SOV (segment 2) > SOV (segment 3) > SOV (segment 1) > SOV (segments 4 and 5). The best performing operations in the five segments are the rescuers (segment 1), technical operators and packer/unpacker operators (segment 2), sugar lifters (segment 3), forklift technicians (segment 4) and contractor 3 (segment 5). The binomial motivated Taguchi method is an effective tool to optimize operational activities while the multicriteria models proved effective to rank performance for optimized results. The obtained results may be useful to plan for safety budgets.

Abstract

Medium carbon low alloy steel En-19 is a commercially thriving work material with 0.30 to 0.50% as carbon content and 0.60 to 1.65% as manganese content. The wide range of uses of medium carbon steel is for shafts, crankshafts, forgings, axles, couplings and gears. Given the broad industrial usage, the optimization of this work material is currently indispensable since it is a pointer to the economic management of drilling resources and a justifiable metric for performance assessment and evaluation. However, the present optimization models during machining have inaccurate predictions as they exclude the economic aspect of the material. In this article, a new combined Taguchi (T) method-present worth (PW) method is presented to account for the present worth and the inflation rate of steel material within the optimization context using literature data. The amalgamation of the two-component methods of Taguchi and present work is done at the signal-to-noise calculation. Then the response table, optimal parametric setting, the performance flow diagram and the present worth values are finally established. For the results, the optimal parametric setting was ascertained as SP3FR2DOC1, obtained at 37.48 (level 3), 35.92 (level 2) and 36.31 (level 1) for speed, feed rate and depth of cut, respectively, interpreted as 900rpm (speed), 0.1mm/min (feed rate) and 0.5mm (depth of cut). The T-PW method yields PWSP (62.85) as 1st, PWFR (-64.64) as 2nd and PWDOC (-65.13) as the 3rd position. It was found that the speed parameter is the best based on the optimization cum economic aspect assessment. The T-PW method predicts the optimization behaviour while analysing the economic aspect of the steel material and would help plan the purpose. The findings in this study would assist to clarify the approach to analyzing the economic characteristics of the machining process.

Abstract

Competition in the automotive industry, especially in Indonesia, is quite tight. Automotive OEMs require their suppliers, both Tier-1 and Tier-2, to supply quality products consistently. One of the indicators of supplier evaluation is the quality performance with abnormal product quality detection parameters from supplier to automotive OEM, and even to end-user if this happens on motorcycles. For this reason, this research aims to analyze and improve supplier performance level, mainly the manufacture of OEM motorcycle spare parts, by looking at the risk of production process failure. The method analyses for this research use AIAG-VDA PFMEA to analyze this starting from the closest case or the occurrence of abnormal violations on the assembly of OEMs and even end-users of motorcycles. The results showed that one of the suppliers processing with the lowest value, the Cap Camshaft product, in the casting process, there was a crack failure on the product. The cause of cracking by analyzing the casting process found that was due to bile on the casting and the instability of the bolting assembly area caused cracking on the camshaft cover. The repaired item standardizes the Nozzle Spray Die on Dies' lubrication direction and increases the level of abnormal detection, especially cracks with color detector inspection items. The Purpose of improvement proposals is to analyze the process with risk forecasting patterns and avoid process failures and even flow to customers.
