Abstract

Agung Bakery, a small and medium-sized enterprise (UMKM), produces various types of bread, with pizza bread being one of its flagship products. The demand for pizza bread often fluctuates, posing challenges in optimally managing the inventory of wheat flour raw materials. This study aims to control raw material inventory using the Material Requirement Planning (MRP) method to reduce costs and improve efficiency. The demand forecast for pizza bread for the next year was analyzed using the Linear Regression method. Based on the forecast, the annual requirement for wheat flour raw materials is 4,713 kg. The MRP method with the Lot for Lot (LFL) technique was applied to determine the optimal order quantity and inventory costs. The analysis results show that the order quantity for wheat flour raw materials from March 2024 to February 2025 is 4,700 kg or 188 sacks. The total annual inventory cost is IDR 38,178,717, resulting in a cost efficiency of approximately 4.88%. The application of MRP with the LFL technique also effectively reduced the Bullwhip Effect from 1.85 to 0.12, indicating better control over demand variability.

Abstract

Oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB), comprising 25-26% of fresh fruit bunches, contain up to 38.70% cellulose, making them a promising raw material for nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) production. Bioprocess technology for producing NCC from OPEFB has been developed, with potential for industrial-scale application. This research analyzes potential factory locations for NCC production in the Sumbar-Riau region, Indonesia, using the value assessment method and complemented by SWOT, IFE, and EFE analyses. The assessment involved a team of 13 experts from the palm oil industry, including senior management from five different palm oil companies, who contributed to assessment through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The Kampar area in Riau was identified as the optimal location, scoring 82 out of 100, based on factors like raw material availability, market access, infrastructure, and labor. The SWOT analysis, supported by IFE (2.05) and EFE (2.65) scores, places Kampar in the S-O strategy quadrant, indicating a strong internal position and significant external opportunities. The recommended location in Kampar, with a production capacity of 2,000 tons/year, offers strategic advantages for NCC production. These results provide valuable insights for stakeholders, including investors, government, and industry, for developing the NCC industry in Indonesia, particularly in the Sumbar-Riau region.

Abstract

The beverage industry (flavored beverages) is located in West Java, has a mechanized production process using automation and robotics systems. However, in practice there are still activities that are carried out manually, including the process of pouring sugar into the beverage dilution section. In this area there are several ingredients that are mixed, such as sugar and additives, where sugar is poured manually through the T71 tank. Work in this section is carried out by operators who must manually move the sugar pile ± 1 meter closer to the T71 tank, totaling 126 sacks of sugar for one of the products. Regulation of the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia Number 5 of 2018, namely physical workload analysis using the Recommended Weight Limit (RWL) and Lifting Index (LI) calculations, is a reference for companies in controlling the workforce to reduce health complaints. Therefore, physical workload analysis will be carried out using the RWL and LI methods on beverage liquiverter section operators, as a form of assessment that has not been done by the industry in the sugar pouring process in the beverage liquiverter section. The LI value obtained is 3.6012 with a high level of risk. Furthermore, from the NIOSH perspective, working with LI≥3 means that the weight of the load lifted exceeds the recommended lifting limit, which is 6,942 kg (RWL), thus posing a risk of spinal injury to the operator. Suggestions as an effort to improve and control the risks of manual material handling based on the literature are the use of checklists to identify the risks of work accidents due to manual material handling, the implementation of safety lectures to improve operator understanding, and the design of workstations.

Abstract

Wood furniture workers often face ergonomic challenges in their daily work activities, which involve manual tasks such as lifting, cutting, and assembling wooden components. These activities have the potential to cause musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), which are disorders of the musculoskeletal system. MSDs can cause muscle pain, physical fatigue, and reduced work productivity in the long term if not properly addressed. This study aims to analyze the work posture risks of furniture workers using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method, designed to evaluate overall body posture during work activities. Data collection was conducted through direct observation on-site and video recording during the work process. This visual data was then analyzed using CorelDraw software to measure the workers' body posture angles, which were subsequently used to determine the REBA score for each work activity. The analysis results showed that out of the five main stages in the furniture production process, four of them had moderate to high ergonomic risk levels. The most risky stages are during wood cutting and assembly, where workers tend to bend or lift loads in an unideal position. Based on these results, the study recommends several improvement measures, including the use of lifting aids, adjusting the height of workbenches to match workers' body postures, and scheduling regular rest breaks. These steps are expected to reduce the risk of injuries caused by non-ergonomic work postures and improve the comfort and efficiency of furniture workers.
