Abstract

In the Province of East Java, the agricultural sector contributes the largest in employment, while its contribution to GDP is the lowest. On the other hand, the processing industry sector contributes the lowest in employment but its contribution to GDP is higher than the agricultural sector. Thereby it is important to study the productivity of both sectors. This study aims to examine the effect of sectoral attractiveness, individual characteristics and suitability ofjob options on the productivity of workers in the agricultural sector and manufacturing industry in East Java. Analysis of the data using a structural equation model (Structural Equation Modeling/SEM) and AMOS (Structural Analysis of Moment) application program. The study shows that the sectoral attractiveness and individual characteristics significantly influence the productivity of workers in both agriculture and manufacturing industry. But as an intermediate variable, the suitability ofjob options has no significant effect on workers' productivity. Thus, the effects of- sectoral attractiveness and individual characteristics on - workers productivity are direct. Keywords: the sectoral attractiveness, individual characteristics, suitability of job options, and labor productivity.

Abstract

As an Archipelago, Indonesia consists of more than 18.000 islands, locating at the heart of the World 'Coral Triangle'. This country is well known as the highest coral reef biodiversity, especially in Raja Ampat, Selayar, Banda and Bunaken. This potential resource, however, in some places has been destroyed, due to oveifishing and destructive fishing practices. The Indonesian government, to address these threats has developed Coral Reefs Rehabilitation and Management Program or Coremap since the 2006. Coremap aims to manage, rehabilitate and protect coral reefs to ensure sustainable utilization of these marine resources for reducing poverty of coastal community and increasing their welfare. Coremap focuses on collaborative management by involving communities, loca{and national governments, NGOs and other relevant stakeholders. This paper is based on data from the 2008 and 2011 studies on socio-economic aspects of coral reefs in Coremap locations in the eastern part of Indonesia. The studies applied a combination between quantitative (survey) and qualitative (indepth interview and focus group discussions) approaches. The study results informed that community has quite high participation in the management and their welfare also tends to increase during this periodKeywords: coral reefs rehabilitation, community participation and roles, welfare

Abstract

In line with the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in 1994 in Cairo, 2001, The Indonesian Ministry of Health developed an integrated essential reproductive health Services at primary health care which include Adolescence Reproductive Health services (ARH). Utilized qualitative approach, this article examine the implementation of ARH in 16 primary health care (puskesmas) which are located in four districts/city namely Pontianak City, Landak District, Ogan Komering Ilir District and Tasikmalaya District. The study results showed that ARH programs have not been folly implemented. This is due to several obstacles including (a) The limited knowledge of health personnel in the puskesmas, (b) Obstacles related to legal and policy aspects; (c) Obstacles related to socio-cultural aspects. Considering the increase number of adolescents who have engaged in risky sexual activities, it is important to develop comprehensive approaches to this phenomenon, especially at puskesmas. To do so, the national consensus on the right of adolescents to obtain comprehensive information and services related to sexual and reproductive health is urgently needed The consensus of course has to consider the religious and cultural norm, but it also has to accept the real condition of today s adolescents.
