Abstract

Hi Muhammad Yusuf Hospital produces about 2.4 kg of solid medical waste per day. The initial survey results found that solid medical waste has not been appropriately managed, even though this waste can be a source of health problems for the community. This study aimed to describe the management of solid medical waste at the Hi Muhammad Yusuf Hospital, Kalibalangan, Kotabumi. This research describes the management of solid medical waste from source, type, weight, sorting, container, collection, and temporary storage. Data were collected through observation and interviews with medical waste management officers. Furthermore, the data is compared with Minister of Health Regulation No. 7 of 2019. Solid medical waste management is declared to meet the requirements if it is following the regulation. The process of sorting, storing, and transporting hospital waste does not meet the requirements. There is still solid medical waste mixed with non-medical waste. Hospitals need to provide medical bags in brown for pharmaceutical waste, red for radioactive waste, and purple for cytotoxic waste. Training for waste management officers is needed to improve understanding of solid medical waste management and the availability of SOPs as a guide for waste management officers.

Abstract

An unhealthy environment can lead to environmental-based disease transmission. Based on the preliminary survey, many houses still do not meet health requirements, such as having no ceiling, closed sewerage, and no latrine. This study aims to determine the description of residential sanitation, including the components of the house, the components of sanitation facilities, and the occupants' behavior. This research is descriptive with the survey method. The population is all houses in Roworejo Village, as many as 1,244 houses. Data collection is done by visiting people's homes, conducting an assessment using a checklist guide. Interviews were conducted to support the required data. The data that has been collected is scored, processed with a computer program, and presented in tabular form. The results of the study found that the majority of the sanitation components had met the requirements. However, there are still physical components of the house (30%), components of sanitation facilities (34%), and unhealthy behavior of residents (30%). Increasing public knowledge is an action that must be taken in order to change public health behavior.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) case in Bandar Lampung City shows an increasing trend of cases. In 2014, the number of cases was 389 cases; by the end of 2018, it had increased to 1,114 cases. Climatic factors are thought to have contributed to the increase in cases. This study aims to determine the relationship between climate factors and the number of dengue cases in 2015-2019. The study used secondary data with a cross-sectional design. Data were obtained from the Bandar Lampung City Health Office and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). Univariate analysis with Mean, Median, Minimum-Maximum. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was carried out to determine the normality of the data, followed by bivariate analysis with Pearson Correlation and Spearman's Rank. Multivariate analysis was performed with Linear Regression by considering the regression assumption. The study found that more dengue cases were in January, February, March. A negative correlation was shown between temperature and the incidence of DHF (r=-0.274; p-value=0.038), and a positive correlation with humidity (r=0.390; p-value=0.002), and rainfall (r=0.370; p-value= 0.005). Air humidity and rainfall affect the number of dengue cases, respectively 33.0% and 30.5%. The results of this study have provided evidence of a relationship between climate factors and cases of DHF. It is hoped that this can be an input for the prevention and control of dengue fever.

Abstract

The diarrhea morbidity rate in the working area of the Hajimena Health Center tends to increase from year to year. During the last two years, the highest incidence of diarrheal disease was in the 1-4 year age group. This study aims to determine the relationship between environmental factors and the incidence of diarrhea in children under five. This study used a cross-sectional design. The research population was all children under five (1-5 years) in Hajimena Village, South Lampung Regency, 1,052 people. The sample in this study was 101 toddlers who were selected randomly—collecting data by observation and interviews. Data analysis was carried out univariate and bivariate using the Chi-Square test. The results of this study indicate a significant relationship between diarrhea in children under five with waste disposal facilities (p-value = 0.010) and waste water disposal facilities (p-value = 0.001). Meanwhile, clean water facilities and family latrine facilities, in this study, did not show a significant relationship. Increased knowledge and skills of the community in managing household waste is needed in an effort to reduce the incidence of diarrhea in children under five.

Abstract

Stunting is stunted growth in children due to malnutrition. It can affect children's cognitive and physical development, increase the risk of infection, and significantly contribute to child morbidity and mortality. This study aims to analyze the risk factors for stunting in children under five (13-59 months). The study used a case-control design to compare previous exposure to stunting and normal children under five. Measurements and interviews were conducted with 120 children under five and their mothers. The SPSS (24.0) was used for the Chi-square and Odds Ratio (alpha = 5%) test. The study found the risk factors for stunting under five, poor income (OR = 4.75; 95% CI 2.18-10.33), not getting exclusive breastfeeding (OR = 5.29; 95% CI 2.39-11.68) ), there is no access to clean water (OR = 3.00; 95% CI 1.42–6.32), and healthy latrines (OR = 3.73; 95% CI 1.75-7.94). Increasing the nutritional status of pre-pregnant and pregnant women and access to clean water and healthy latrines to prevent infection is an urgent need to be implemented immediately.

Abstract

Malaria is one of the public health problems that can cause death in infants, children under five, pregnant women and reduces work productivity. Vector control by chemical means leads to vector resistance and environmental pollution and negatively impacts public and animal health. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the bark extract of Maja (Aegle marmelos L) against the death of Anopheles sp mosquito larvae with concentrations of 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, and 50% and the observation of contact times every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes and 120 minutes. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with Factorial. Extraction used maceration method, with 70% ethanol as solvent. Larvae of Anopheles sp. instar III obtained from malaria endemic area. The test used a 200 ml container, with two replications. All data were analyzed by two way ANOVA and Tukey HSD test. This study obtained mortality of 93.3% larvae at a concentration of 50% and a contact time of 120 minutes. The results of statistical analysis showed a significant effect of concentration (p=0.0001), contact time (p=0.0001), and interaction concentration-contact time (p=0.004) on the mortality of Anopheles sp. mosquito larvae. This study has proven the use of bark extract of Maja (Aegle marmelos L) as an alternative bio-insecticide in controlling mosquito larvae of Anopheles sp.

Abstract

Rice milling is one of the activities that produce high noise intensity, which can impact the health of workers. This study aims to determine the effect of noise on stress on workers at the Anugrah Mulya Rice Mill in Wates Village, Gadingrejo District, Pringsewu Regency, Lampung Province. The study used a cross-sectional design, carried out in February - May 2019. The sample is 35 workers, which is the whole of the population. Observations were made on noise sources and measured the noise level using a sound level meter. Measurements were made at 4 inside and 4 outside the room. Furthermore, interviews with workers used instruments to measure the work stress scale based on indicators or symptoms of stress, including physical symptoms, behavioral symptoms, and symptoms at work. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square statistical test. The results showed that the noise intensity in the rice milling room had exceeded the NAV of 87 dB(A) and caused work stress to 51.4% of workers. Age, gender, and noise also affect work stress. Measures to reduce noise exposure in the workplace and joint recreation for all workers can prevent work-related stress.
