Abstract

Overhead cranes are lifting tools used by almost all industries, ports, warehouses, workshops, and others. Generally, the overhead crane control system is less effective and efficient because the operator still follows where the crane is moving. In this case, problems often occur because the pendant switch that functions as a controller still uses the cable as a link to the overhead crane panel. Various problems that occur between cables often break up because of being hit by a load lifted by a hoist, operators who have difficulty adjusting the safe distance because they are limited by the length of the cable pendant switch. The purpose of this thesis is to create a control system that is expected to be able to control the overhead crane effectively and efficiently without using a cable as a connector but using an Android smartphone. Control with an Android smartphone using bluetooth serial communication with 16x2 LCD display and Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller. Based on the results of testing on this control system, control of the device can be controlled at a maximum distance of ± 12 meters without bulkhead and a distance of ± 10 meters with a bulkhead. The results of the test prove that the control system can function optimally and the remote application can be installed on the Android 4.0 Mininal Android smartphone (Jelly Bean). Therefore the use of cable can be replaced with a wireless connection system (Bluetooth) to reduce the occurrence of friction with the cable and so that the operator can maintain a safe distance with the load to be moved because it is not limited by the cable length

Abstract

Rolling Door is a door to protect items inside the room. In general, the locking system is still conventional by utilizing the key as a security system. The problem faced is the easy duplication of rolling door keys at this time. It is risky for others to open without the owner's knowledge, this design is done so that rolling doors have a more conventional level of security. The author tries to make a rolling door controller using the Android smartphone application and Arduino microcontroller via Bluetooth, in order to make it easier to use and replace the manual function by applying Bluetooth on an Android phone connected to the Bluetooth module on Arduino then the system is controlled via an Android handphone to send data to Arduino to be processed to control the condition of the motor, so that the rolling door can be opened and closed automatically using a solenoid door lock and QR Code as a lock.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat kelayakan investasi dalam pendirian UKM Mie Pangsit XYZ. Pengamatan dilakukan dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi dan wawancara. Metode yang digunakan yaitu aspek finansial dengan perhitungan kelayakan investasi berupa Payback Period (PP), Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) dan Profitability Index (PI). Analisis pasar dan pemasaran menunjukkan bahwa UKM pembuatan mie pangsit cukup layak dilanjutkan, dilihat dari peningkatan jumlah permintaan setiap tahun dan keuntungan yang melebihi nilai investasi. Pada Analisis dengan aspek finansial didapatkan hasil Payback Period (PP) yaitu 9 bulan 11 hari, Net Present Value (NPV) sebesar 106.221.984, Internal Rate of Return (IRR) sebesar 29,90%, dan Profitability Index (PI) sebesar 1,29.

Abstract

Electricity is a major need for people, especially in Indonesia. The need for electricity is increasing every year. In 2019 PLN estimates that electricity consumption will grow by 6%. To meet the demand for electricity supply and in particular to provide renewable and environmentally friendly electricity, a breakthrough is needed in the search for new and renewable sources of electricity. One of them is the potential source of electrical energy from geothermal heat sources, especially those of low quality. In this research an experimental study was carried out on a laboratory-scale power generation system with the principle of a simple Organic Rankine Cycle with a low-quality geothermal heat source. The generator system is designed, then built and finally tested using R134a as a working fluid. The main components of this system are the vane pump (to increase working fluid pressure), evaporator (to absorb heat from heat sources), expanders / turbines (to convert heat energy into kinetic energy) and condenser (to convert the phase of working fluid into saturated liquid). In this study, we will look for the influence of variations in pressure and temperature on the mass flow rate of the working fluid which is one of the factors that determine the performance of the observed system. In this experiment, it was concluded that by maintaining a constant temperature and increasing evaporation pressure, a mass flow rate would decrease. Constant temperature is carried out at 80 oC, 85 oC, 90 oC, 95 oC and 100 oC. A decrease in the mass flow rate when the pressure is raised at a constant temperature will result in better system performance.

Abstract

Empty palm fruit bunch fiber reinforced polymeric foam has been developing as alternative engineering material. This material uses unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) as its matrics, and treatmented empty palm fruit bunch fiber as its reinforcement element. Environmental friendly blowing agent has been used to get foamy structure in this material. This material tested to get properties of density, tension strength, static compression strength, and foams distribution. The result of this research is that A composition has the highest density for 665 kg/m3, with tension strength 0.05 MPa, compression strength 6.802 MPa and elastic modulus 37.859 Mpa. Eventhough additon of fiber could decrease mass of material, but in other side it could decrease the strenght of material too.

Abstract

Population and economic growth makes electricity energy needs in Indonesia continue to increase every year. Based on the assumption of an average national economic growth growing at 6.1 percent per year and national population growth growing at 1.3 percent per year, according to the national electricity general plan for 2012-2031 Indonesia's average electricity demand is estimated at 11% per year. Increased electricity demand PT PLN (Persero) to be able to meet the needs of the community for electrical energy. Problems that arise in the company are specifically related to damage to the components in the Sipansihaporas hydropower unit which are composed of the main parts, namely turbines and generators. Damage to that section can result in downtime and delay in the production process which results in less effective and efficient machine performance. Effectiveness in the production process needs the right strategy to maintain the machine to operate is by determining the optimal maintenance time interval (Maintenance) of the equipment by using the criticality analysis method. After calculating the criticality analysis method, it was found that the guide vane and runner components are critical components. Furthermore, preventive replacement measures for the guide vane component can be carried out after operating for 4200 hours. The Runner component can also be performed after operating for 15800 hours or during overhaul. While the inspection action for the Guide vane component is performed after operating for 250 hours, the Runner component is carried out after operating for 1200 hours. After checking and checking the Avaibility value of the two components is above 95%

Abstract

Optical fiber is one of the transmission media that is widely used for local networks at this time, its use is predicted to replace copper cables. In practice, optical fiber itself has losses, including: losses caused by the fiber itself (intrinsic loss) such as Rayleigh Scattering, absorption loss, dispersion. There are also losses caused by external forces and human-error (extrinsic loss) such as losses on connectors/splices, coupling/splitter losses, and bending losses. Optical fiber is divided into single-mode and multi-mode. single-mode fibre uses smaller cores. As for what was used in this study, they are both. In this study, optical fiber losses were measured with OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer). Overall, based on the results of the comparative analysis of optical fiber losses from the results of measuring tools with empirical formula calculations, a large enough difference was obtained but not significant to deny the results of OTDR measurements in the field

Abstract

The digital signal processing practicum is one of the practicums that must be followed by students of the Electrical Engineering Study Program at Harapan University of Medan, especially students of the Telecommunications Engineering concentration. To support the continuation of practicum activities so that they run well, an alternative model is needed and also as a backup if there is a problem with the actual module when doing the practicum. Alternative models can be designed using the help of software. This study aims to design a model of digital signal processing material using matlab software. In this study, a model design was carried out from the practicum material of digital signal processing by utilizing the graphical user interface (GUI) tool in the Matlab programming language. Then testing is carried out on the model that has been designed, the results of this model design are expected to be a supporting method or backup of the actual experiment. From the test results of the practicum model design, all models that have been designed run well and can be used as simulators for digital signal processing practicum. With this simulator, it will foster students' interest in practicum and increase understanding of the material being practiced

Abstract

Recycling methods can be used to reduce road construction costs. One of the recycling methods is mixing asphalt with used oil (lubricating oil), this method has been used by several AMP (Asphalt Mixing Plate) companies for asphalt mixtures. However, there is no reference / reference for the percentage of the oil mixture that is commonly used as an asphalt mixture. It is feared that an inappropriate oil mixture will cause damage or make the asphalt mixture not according to the specified specifications such as the stability and flow value of the asphalt mixture. The method used is an experiment, where 15 test objects are made using asphalt pen 60/70 to determine the KAO, after the KAO value is obtained, then used oil is mixed with variations of 1%, 2%, and 3%. From this research, the value of Stability and Flow in used oil mixtures with a variation of 1% Used oil obtained a stability value of 1033,936 kg and a flow of 3,21 mm, with the addition of 2% used oil, a stability value of 1037,246 kg and a flow of 3,25 were obtained. mm, the addition of 3% used oil obtained a stability value of 1040,142 kg and a flow of 3,30 mm. As the variation of the mixture of Stability and Flow values ​​increases, the percentage of addition of used oil mixture at 1%, 2%, 3%, Stability and flow values ​​meet the 2010 general specifications (revision 3), where the stability value has a minimum of 800 and the flow value a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4. From the results of the marshall test of used oil mixtures, which start from a variation of 1% to 3% seen from the marshall parameters and data processing, the variation that is used as the optimum asphalt content in used oil added ingredients is the used oil variation of 3%.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mechanical properties of areca nut fiber reinforced composites using static bending testing methods. Areca nut fiber reinforced composites are materials that show potential as an attractive alternative in engineering applications and natural fiber-based materials. Static bending testing methods are used to evaluate the modulus of elasticity, tensile strength, flexural strength, and ductility of composites. At the sample preparation stage, areca nut fibers are well arranged in a resin matrix to form a composite sample. The test is performed by applying a load on the midpoint of the sample gradually until a significant fracture or deformation occurs. During the test, the strain, force, and change in shape of the sample are measured. The test results show that areca nut fiber reinforced composites have significant values of modulus of elasticity, tensile strength, flexural strength, and ductility. Factors such as fiber orientation, fiber-matrix composition, and interactions between fibers and matrices can affect the mechanical characteristics of composites. This research provides a better understanding of the mechanical properties of areca nut fiber reinforced composites, which can be used for the development and application of such materials. The results of this study can also be used as a basis for comparison with other fiber-reinforced composites or other materials used in similar applications.
