Abstract

The aim of this research was study the effect of soil types and compost to provide nutrients nitrogen and growth of corn plant. Nitrogen is an essential nutrient by the main source of organic material from corn required with high levels at the age of four weeks to optimum product in soils low levels of nitrogen. For it has done a research in the field screen Agriculture Faculty University of Sumatera Utara (± 25 m above sea level) in June-August 2012 by using a factorial Randomized Block Design in two factors: types of soils were entisols, inceptisol and ultisol and compost were control, straw compost + chicken manure, straw compost + cocoa fod compost, cocoa fod compost + chicken manure. Parameters measured were soil pH, soil C-organic, soil N-total, ratio of C/N soil, plant height, plant dry weight, N plant level and N-plant uptake.The results showed that the combination of various organic matter on the three soil types significantly affect to the C-organic, N-total soil, plant height, plant dry weight and N-plant uptake.

Abstract

Survey and mapping potassium status on wet rice have been in irrigation area Bahal Gajah/TigaBolon in kecamatan Sidamanik. This research purpose to make a map potassium status on wet ricefield in irrigation area Bahal Gajah/Tiga Bolon. The research was started on April until December2012. Sampling method use free grid survey method with semi detail survey scale. Result ofanalysis process using correlation method, with Geographical Information System (GIS) program.Parameter that analysis in laboratory is exchange of potassium. The result of research showed thatpotassium exchange available devided by 5 status such as; lowest 0,118 ha (0,03%), low 1,542 ha(0,36%), medium 35,203 ha (8,24%), high 90,114ha (21,08%), and highest 300,473 ha (70,29%).Key words: mapping, potassium, paddy soil

Abstract

The aim of this research to know the effect of seaweed liquid fertilizer (Sargassum polycystum) made ​​from waste materials on the growth and production of  mustard  (Brassica juncea L.) on ultisol. This research was held in gauze house, Chemistry/Soil Fertility Laboratory and Research Laboratory,  Agricultural Faculty, University of North Sumatra, Medan in June-September 2012. The sample of soil to used is ultisol. The research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) Non Factorial with nine treatments and three replications that are twenty-seven experimental units. Treatment consists of P0 (Control), Pa2 (EM-4 20 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 2 days), Pa3 (EM-4 20 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 3 days), Pa4 (EM-4 20 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 4 days), Pa5 (EM-4 20 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 5 days), Pb2 (EM-4 40 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 2 days), Pb3 (EM-4 40 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 3 days), Pb4 (EM-4 40 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 4 days), Pb5 (EM-4 40 cc with liquid seaweed fertilizer every 5 days). The result of experiments showed that seaweed liquid fertilizer different is not real to pH of soil, C-organic of soil, N soil, K-exchange, C/N of soil. But, real different to the P-available of soil, fresh weight of plants, fresh weight of root, dry weight of plant and dry weight of root. Abstract

Mapping survey in order to classify, analyze and soil mapping by grouping at soils which have thesame characteristics a certain mapping unit. The objective of this research is to mapping of K, Ca,and Mg of soils at people Palm oil estate of Hutabayu Raja, Simalungun District. This researchwas begun in Juni 2011 until Februari 2012. Soil nutrient data obtained through free sampling gridmethod. Mapping and classification using Geographic Information System with criteria nutrientstatus of BPPT (1983) and BPP Medan (2005). The result of research indicate that mediumPotassium,very low Calcium and low Magnesium (0,3 Ha), medium Potassium, very low Calciumand very low Magnesium (204 Ha), high Potassium, very low Calcium and low Magnesium (5 Ha)and high Potassium, very low Calcium and very low Magnesium ( 90 Ha).Keywords : mapping survey, potassium, calcium, magnesium

Abstract

The objective of this research is to evaluate the land  suitability for Apple Trees at Sihiong Village,Bonatua Lunasi Subdistrict, Toba Samosir District. The results of this study showed that 11 soilmap units found based on the map of soil and the map of topography, and than it makes to overlay.The evaluation of land suitability  classes based on the criteria given by Resesarch Center,IPBBogor  1983 and the evaluation method  is limitation method based on FAO 1976. The results ofthis research showed that  the highest actual of land suitability classes is land mapping unit two (S3nr,eh) and the highest potential of land suitability classes is land mapping unit 1,3,5,7,8,10,11 (S1)Keywords: land suitability evaluation,apples, sihiong village

Abstract

Survey and mapping phosphorus status on irrigated rice field at Bahal Gajah and Tiga Bolonvillage in Sidamanik Subdistrict. This research purpose to make a map phosphate status on wet ricefield in irrigation area Bahal Gajah/Tiga Bolon. The research start to do on May until December2012. Method of sample take use free grid survey method with semi detail survey scale. Result ofanalysis process using regreation method, with Geografis Information System (GIS) program.Parameter that analysis in laboratory is phosphate available and phosphate total. The result ofresearch showed that phosphate available divided by 3 status such as; medium (6,087 ha), high(136,005 ha), and highest (286,101 ha). Phosphate total divided by 3 status such as; medium(48,393 ha), high (109,445 ha), and highest (269,263 ha).Key words: mapping, phosphorus

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to know the status of copper (Cu) and Boron (B)at People Palam OilPalm Plantation at Hutabayu Raja Subdistrict, Simalungun District. The result of this study showedthat the status of the two micronutrients are :copper deficient area is about 22.7% (71 Ha) andadequate soil contains Cu is about 77.3% (239 Ha) and the soil content of B is deficient within theresearch are.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the frequency distribution of rainfall at Padang watershed.This research used descriptive statistic analysis by using rainfall data. Data’s used from nine station(Brohol, Pabatu, Kotarih, Silau Dunia, Gunung Para, Gunung Pamela, Gunung Monako, andMaligas) on 10 years. Suitability of pattern frequency distribution determined coefficient skewnessand kurtosis coefficients. The results show that the Gumbel distribution and Log Person Type IIImost suitable for distribution pattern of rainfall in the watershed Padang.

Abstract

The elevation and slope effect significantly to growth and rubber (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.)production . This research was done in Hapesong Farm, Batang Toru sub-district in July – August2013. The aim of this research is to know the effect of elevation and slope on rubber production inHapesong Farm. The sampling used free survey method and Geographic Informatin Systems (GIS).The variables are elevation and slope, and then analysed by regretion method.The result showedthat elevation, slope is significant to decrease the rubber production, but jointly elevation and slopedo not. Elevation of the best places in the study area is 84.5 meters above sea level. The land on theelevation 294.5 meters above sea level, preferably the rubber is not planted anymore.Keyword: elevation, slope, rubber

Abstract

This reseach aimed to determines differences ability between two types of the brown algaecompost increase fertility of Ultisol and mustard production. This research was conducted inCompos Centre, Gauze House, Laboratory of Chemistry And Soil Fertility ,Laboratory of Researchand Technology Agriculture Faculty, University of North Sumatera, Medan in March-October2013. The method used non-factorial randomized block design consisting of 11 treatments with 3replications. R0 (control), R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5 with application of 50 g, 100 g, 150 g, 200 g, and250 g brown algae compost respectively, R6, R7, R8, R9, dan R10 with application of 50 g, 100 g,150 g, 200 g, and 250 g brown algae add chicken dirt compost respectively.The results showed thatapplication of two types compost able to increase the pH, C-organic, N-total, K-exchange in thesoil as well as increase the plant height, plant fresh weight, plant dry weight and root dry weight. Atparameters of soil pH, the K-exchange soil, application of brown algae compost significantlydifferent with brown algae added chicke dirt compost. The best dosage of brown algae add chickendirt compost 150 g /polybag for the K-exchange soil and soil pH.Keywords : The brown algae compost, chicken dirt, mustard.
