Indonesia has a diverse cultural heritage, including the Baso Culture in Coastal Sibolga, North Sumatra. This culture, orally passed down since ancient times, is at risk of being lost due to minimal documentation. Baso reflects close relationships, especially with blood relatives. The family system of the Sibolga Coastal ethnicity follows the paternal lineage, and Baso terms are adapted to the Coastal Language influenced by Minang, Malay, and Batak languages. This research aims to document the Baso Culture of the Sibolga Coastal ethnicity, which currently has minimal information. The study uses library science with a focus on cultural documentation. The methods employed are action research and Participatory Action Research (PAR), with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and document analysis. The research involves observations to study social behavior and meaning, interviews to deepen information, and data analysis based on references to strengthen the received information. YFKK (Yayasan Forum Komunitas Kreatif) Sibolga Tapanuli Tengah and local cultural experts are involved in the research as part of the PAR approach. The results show that Baso Culture is a way of speaking that reflects the closeness of relationships and a person's position in kinship. The researchers categorized the variations of greetings in Baso into six categories: nuclear family, paternal family, maternal family, male in-laws, female in-laws, and general greetings. Baso Culture is still practiced by the Sibolga Coastal community, but it needs preservation. Preservation efforts are made by documenting it as Instagram content through the accounts of Yayasan Forum Komunitas Kreatif (@tutur.runduk) and the researcher (@lai_bookshelf). This documentation is expected to enrich information and support cultural learning for future generations.

The security of collections is critically important for safeguarding college libraries. One of the security measures implemented is the use of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems. This study aims to examine the application of RFID technology for collection security and to identify the challenges encountered in its implementation at the UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung Library. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, systematically and accurately portraying the facts observed in the field. The informants include the head librarian and the coordinator of the ICT introduction and repository. Data collection methods consist of observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques involve data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the RFID system effectively enhances collection security at the UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung Library. Security is achieved through stickers affixed to the back covers of books, making them less noticeable to users. Furthermore, RFID technology can detect books that have not been checked out by triggering an alarm when passing through the security gate. A significant challenge faced is the frequent downtime of the system network, which cannot be resolved immediately. This issue may disrupt borrowing transactions, leading to discrepancies in transaction data within the application. Such challenges can be mitigated by increasing the bandwidth to address the existing issues adequately.

The Library of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) serves as a supporting facility for the academic community of FISIP Unpad. To disseminate information, the FISIP Library still relies on print media, which limits the scope of the information provided, resulting in suboptimal dissemination of library resources. Conversely, the need for information dissemination is significant, given that FISIP is one of the faculties with the largest number of study programs at Unpad. Considering this, the objective of this research is to design the Instagram social media platform as a dissemination medium for the FISIP Library at Unpad. The research employs a qualitative methodology utilizing action research as its approach. The dynamic process of action research begins with planning, followed by action, observation, and reflection. Data collection methods include interviews, observations, and documentation, with data analysis conducted through matrix tables. The results of the research are presented in the form of stages of action research, which consist of planning, action, observation, and reflection phases. The first stage involves developing a plan based on the existing conditions in the field, followed by the realization of the plan during the action phase. The outcomes of the action phase are then observed and reflected upon. Based on the results of the observation and reflection, improvements and optimizations are necessary, both in terms of information and social media utilization; thus, a second cycle is implemented to address these issues. The study encompasses two cycles of action research, each including the stages of action, observation, and reflection. The research resulted in the creation of a functional Instagram account for the FISIP Library at Unpad, which includes content that pertains to library-related information.

The issue of preservation can be addressed through effective preservation management. A critical component of preservation management is the establishment of preservation policies. This study aims to investigate the policies governing the preservation of Minangkabau manuscripts at the Adityawarman Museum as an effort to sustain cultural heritage. The research employs a qualitative case study methodology, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and literature review. The subjects of the study comprise two categories: primary and secondary subjects. Data analysis is conducted using Miles' data analysis framework, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the Adityawarman Museum's preservation policies are guided by applicable laws, technical guidelines from the National Museum, and the experiences of museum conservators. Regarding acquisition policies, the museum adheres to legal regulations concerning the procurement of goods and services. Policies on security and storage spaces are based on technical guidelines issued by the Ministry of Culture in 2001. Furthermore, environmental control in storage areas considers factors such as cleanliness, room temperature, and humidity levels. Policies regarding the lending of manuscripts involve the creation of official records witnessed by relevant parties. The management policies for the preservation of Minangkabau manuscripts reflect the museum's commitment to cultural preservation through cultural experiences and knowledge dissemination. Although the preservation management policies at the Adityawarman Museum have not been fully implemented, efforts to maintain cultural heritage continue.

The era of information society demands that libraries transform from conventional libraries to digital libraries. In the effort to develop digital libraries, the focus should not solely be on increasing the number of collections but also on addressing more complex issues, including user needs analysis, policy formulation, collection selection, collection procurement, weeding, and evaluation. This study aims to examine the development of collections in digital libraries, which encompasses user needs analysis, collection development policies, collection selection, collection procurement, collection weeding, and collection evaluation. The research employs a narrative literature review methodology, analyzing ten references indexed in Google Scholar from the years 2013 to 2023. The findings indicate that in analyzing user needs, libraries assess visitor statistics, collect borrowing, and distribute surveys. Digital collection development policies may vary among libraries; however, principles of relevance, completeness, currency, collaboration, and user orientation can guide them. Collection selection is based on criteria established by the library, and digital collection procurement occurs through donations, grants, e-book purchases, e-journal subscriptions, and the digitization of printed collections. Digital collection weeding is conducted by examining usage statistics and the relevance of digital collections to user information needs. The evaluation of digital collections is performed through the distribution of questionnaires and an analysis of digital collection usage statistics. This study concludes that the development of digital library collections varies across libraries in terms of efforts and methods yet follows the same stages, from user needs analysis to evaluation.

Collection development is a critical aspect as it significantly contributes to shaping a knowledgeable, broad-minded, and morally upright younger generation, thereby enhancing the quality of education in Indonesia. The purpose of collection development is to ensure that libraries possess collections that are relevant, up-to-date, and aligned with user needs. By providing a diverse and pertinent array of books, library users can easily acquire knowledge, develop and refine their information literacy skills, cultivate their character through inspirational and moral readings, and make informed decisions in their daily lives. This study aims to offer a review based on several previous studies regarding libraries in their efforts to provide collections that meet the demands, interests, and preferences of users while considering the quality of the reading materials offered. The methodology employed is a narrative literature review, which compares and analyzes existing theories and research, referencing several prior studies related to the urgency of library collection development, with a total of five references analyzed. The stages of collection development, according to Edward Evans, include user analysis, determining selection policies, selection activities, procurement, weeding, and evaluation activities. The analysis of the five references indicates that in developing library collections, adherence to four main principles is essential: relevance, currency, completeness, and collaboration. The collection development process is a crucial activity for libraries to provide services that align with the evolving needs and interests of users over time.
