Abstract

Certified librarians in Nigeria libraries must be proactive and come on board to adopt a new intellectualizes digital literacy as a required ability that an individual must compulsorily possess. Three objectives such as types digital literacy skills, how it acquires and challenges faced by certified librarians. The study employed a social survey technique of research with a questionnaire as the research instrument. The study was carried out using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) application software. The findings of this study show that the majority of certified librarians have digital literacy skills that they sponsor themselves for digital literacy training, and that some acquired digital literacy skills through trial and error among others. Certified librarians in Nigerian libraries to redouble their efforts in ensuring that these future librarians and scholars are well-trained to be digitally up-to-date in order to save the profession's future and contribute as much as possible to Nigeria's digital technology revival.

Abstract

The study determines the Pedagogical challenges facing the teaching of business studies in Bauchi State, Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study and two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study comprised 248 business studies teachers from secondary schools in Bauchi State. Since the population size is manageable, the researchers used all populations. The researchers developed a structured questionnaire for data collection. The instrument was validated by two experts from the rank of senior lecturer and above in the department of Test and Measurement of Nasarawa State University, Keffi. Cronbach Alpha method was used to test the reliability of the instrument which yielded a coefficient value of 0.77. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions while a t-test was used to test the two null hypotheses formulated for the study at 0.05 level of significance. The finding indicated among others, that some Business studies courses are taught mostly by unqualified teachers. Data analysis revealed that some of the teachers were not familiar with the curriculum and since some of the teachers were not trained, they set internal examinations that only tested the low levels of the cognitive domain that is knowledge and comprehension while the national examinations tested all the levels of the cognitive domain. The study concludes that the Government should employ qualified lecturers in the area of Business Studies in the state, providing appropriate resources, retraining teachers in pedagogical competency needs. Appropriate recommendations were made including retraining of the teachers.

Abstract

The study examined Osun State senior secondary school students’ performance identified factors that affect senior secondary school students’ performance, and factors contributing to students’ performance. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised all 243 public senior secondary schools in Osun State. A sample of 600 Senior Secondary Two (SS II) students was selected using a multistage sampling procedure. The instruments used for data collection were questionnaire and pro-forma. Three forms of the questionnaire were used; they are Questionnaire on Student Factors and Parental Involvement on Academic Performance designed for students in secondary schools (QSFPIAPSSS), Questionnaire on Academic Performance designed for secondary school teachers (QAPSST), Questionnaire on Academic Performance designed for secondary school administrators (QAPSSA). The pro-forma on students’ academic performance in 2017 qualifying examination was used to collect academic performance record. The data collected were analyzed using frequency, counts and multiple regression. The results showed that 12.2% of the students sampled had low-level academic performance, while 10.2% of them had high-level academic performance. Results also showed that study habit (18.6%), self-efficacy (16.8%), parental care (47.6%) and teachers’ influence (36.3%) significantly affect students’ academic performance. The study concluded that students’ habit, self-efficacy, parental care and teachers’ influence were the strongest factors that contribute significantly to students’ academic performance in qualifying examination in Osun State Secondary Schools.

Abstract

Talent is the world’s most valuable resource. It is ability or skills that someone is born with. Talent is somewhat strange status in our society. The main objective of this paper was to explore talent among the adolescents of Jassipauwali village of Punjab. The data were taken from 80 adolescents. Among the 80 adolescents 48 male and 32 females were taken on random basis. Self-made questionnaire was used by the investigator for the purpose of collecting data from the adolescents. Item wise analysis was used to explore talent among the Adolescents. The result reveled that the he majority of the adolescents (81.25%) were singer, (72.5%) have dancing talent, 73.75% adolescents were Punjabi dancer, 67.5% adolescents perform dancing as a supporting role and 3.75% adolescents perform dancing at the international level. 65% adolescents win the trophy in the dancing competition at the village level and 1.25% at international level. (32.5%) read books during their leisure time and 28.75% watch T. V. Most of the adolescents reads religious and short stories books in their spare time.

Abstract

The study was carried out to examine the preparedness of vocational and technical education lecturers in adopting the emerging technology posed by Covid-19 pandemic in Oyo State Colleges of Education, Nigeria.  To achieve the objectives of the study, two research questions were developed and answered while one null hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance.  The study adopted survey research design.  The population for the study consisted of 150 lecturers.  Total enumeration sampling technique was used for this research work.  The questionnaire was faced and content validated by two experts from the Department of Business Education and one expert from Industrial Technical Education Department, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-ode.  Cronbach Alpha method was adopted to ensure reliability of the instrument with the coefficient of r=0.96.  This shows that the instrument is highly reliable.  The questionnaire was administered on 150 respondents and all were successfully retrieved.  Mean and Standard deviation were used to answer data related to research questions while t-test analysis was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.  The findings of the study revealed that preparedness level of the Vocational and Technical Education lecturers on the use of available technological tools for teaching and learning is moderately high.  Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that government through a relevant agency like Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) should assist in providing some adequate modern technological tools for Colleges of Education, school management should provide modern technological tools for the smooth running of teaching and learning, Seminars and Conferences on the use of modern technological tools be attended at an interval.

Abstract

Online learning frequently employs tedious media, including news text learning. This study aims to describe the innovative use of learning media in class VIII B learning of news texts using the Tribunnews Instagram account at SMP 17 Agustus – 1 Muncar. This research is qualitative because the data are presented in the form of words. The method of research employed is descriptive research. The subjects of this study were eighth-grade B SMP 17 Agustus-1 Muncar students. With Instagram Tribunnews, the objective is to learn news text. Documentation is the technique used for data collection. The data processing technique used is a qualitative descriptive technique. The findings of this study indicate that learning with Instagram Tribunnews video media is superior and more engaging for students than learning with news sample text media alone. This can be seen in the improvement of student interactions over time. There were only students who did not have access to a reliable network, and there were students who were late for Zoom. However, the teacher has provided a solution for this.

Abstract

Ruangguru is a digital media learning application created by a startup that understands Generation Z. It provides teaching materials for elementary, junior high, and high school children that can be accessed via Android, iOS, and PC (Windows and macOS), as part of their daily use. This breakthrough was made to maintain school-aged children’s interest and motivation to learn, as Ruangguru carries the tagline: Belajar Jadi Luar Biasa (Learning Becomes Extraordinary) through facilities such as videos, practice exercises, private lessons, as well as tryouts. The novelty in this study lies in the concept of "Master Teacher". Based on the observation and interviews conducted, Ruangguru uses the term "Master Teacher" to refer to the instructors, which raises an understanding of the quality instructors Ruangguru has. Therefore, the researchers intend to reveal the Master Teacher’s learning strategy during the online learning process through digital media. The objectives of this study are as follows: 1) to explore the Master Teacher’s learning strategy while preparing interesting digital media-based applications; 2) to identify Ruangguru’s target audience 3) to explore reasons for using Master Teacher as part of the learning strategy. The research has used case study as a qualitative method to collect data through interviews, observation, and literature studies. The results of this study indicate that: 1) Ruangguru as a learning application provides content for various levels in an interesting way through videos, practice questions, private lessons, tryouts which can be accessed from a smartphone; 2) Ruangguru’s content is adapted from the national curriculum and specifically designed by the best and experienced teachers. It is aimed at Generation Z ranging from elementary, junior high, to high school students; 3) Master Teacher (MT), as Ruangguru’s strong point, serves as a representative in delivering digital media-based transformative learning strategies to Generation Z; 4) Transformative learning strategy is used by Ruangguru Master Teacher (MT) because it suits Generation Z’s characteristics that like Ruangguru’s digital media as a platform to deliver messages. Since the urgency and potential of learning through digital media are considered as an important finding in this research, it is recommended that the results of this study are utilized, disseminated, and developed in learning processes.
