Abstract

Blended learning strategy is an education strategy that involves multiple teaching methods to help students learn more effectively, it combines a mix of face-to-face classroom instruction and online instructional approaches. Despite the importance of blended learning strategy, it has not been fully adopted by university lecturers. Hence, this study investigated Lectures’ Perception on the use of Blended Learning Strategy in University of Ilorin Nigeria. This study adopted a descriptive research design of the survey type, and employed four sectioned researcher-designed questionnaires to elicit information from the respondents.150 lecturers across seven faculties in University of Ilorin were randomly sampled for the study. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to answer and test the formulated hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of this study were: (i) The lecturers’ perception on the usefulness of blended learning strategy for instruction in University of Ilorin is positive (3.49>2.44); (ii) The lecturers’ perception on the ease of use of blended learning strategy for instruction in University of Ilorin is positive (3.35>2.44); (iii) The lecturers are facing challenges in using blended learning strategy for instruction (3.20>2.44); (iv) There was no significance difference on lecturers’ perceived usefulness of blending learning strategy based on the area of specialization (p=.060>0.05); (v) There was significance difference on lecturers’ perceived ease of use of blending learning strategy based on the area of specialization (p=.049<0.05) and (vi) There was no significant difference on lecturers’ perceived ease of use of blended learning strategy based on gender (p=.851> 0.05). Based on the findings of the study, it was revealed that blended learning is an effective strategy for quality teaching and learning. Though there are challenges affecting the proper implementation of this strategy. The study therefore recommended that seminar and workshop should be organized for lecturers to further their knowledge on the uses of blended learning strategy for instruction.

Abstract

Autism Home Karawang’s branch is the most popular children's special needs school in Karawang society. This school also applies the ABA and individual methods during the learning process because these two methods have been applied to an autistic child and its development has been proven to be faster. This study aims to determine the instructional communication used in the teaching and learning process at Autism Home Karawang, to find out the reasons for using the ABA and individual methods in teaching autistic children at Autism Home Karawang, and to find out what factors support and inhibit the teaching and learning process at Autism Home Karawang. This research provides new findings in the field of educational communication research, particularly regarding learning strategies that can be used by teachers in teaching schools for children with special needs. This research method is qualitative with a case study approach. The data collection techniques are through observation, deep interviews, and documentation. The informant in this study amounted to 6 persons. The result of this study is that the implementation of both methods is quite easy to apply, and makes the child develop quickly. These two methods are applied because they are easy to implement and have been proven to help.

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the impact of academic social media utilization on the volume of research output by librarians working in the southwestern region of Nigeria. This investigation adopted a descriptive survey research design and a sample of 363 librarians employed in university libraries located in the southwestern region of Nigeria. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods were utilized to analyze the data collected. The results of the study revealed a low level of research output by librarians in Scopus and Web of Science indexed publications. However, the study also demonstrated that librarians who utilized academic social media platforms such as Figshare, Orcid, and ResearchGate had a higher likelihood of having their research published in outlets indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. In conclusion, this study supports the argument that the utilization of academic social media can enhance the likelihood of publication in Scopus and Web of Science indexed outlets. Based on these findings, it is recommended that efforts be made to increase the utilization of academic social media platforms such as Orcid and ResearchGate among librarians in southwestern Nigeria.

Abstract

Every individual should possess the ability to think critically, making it imperative to foster this process starting from school. The purpose of this research is to analyze previously published studies to conclude on the success of the problem-based learning model in enhancing high school students' critical thinking skills in biology education. The research methodology employed is meta-analysis, where the researcher combines the outcomes of prior studies to obtain a comprehensive overview of the success of the problem-based learning model in enhancing critical thinking skills among high school students in biology education. The research findings indicate that the implementation of the problem-based learning model in biology education at the high school level can indeed enhance students' critical thinking abilities. This is evident from the comparison between pretest and posttest results, revealing an average increase of 0.17%. While this falls within the weak effect category, it still demonstrates a positive impact of Problem-Based Learning on students' critical thinking skills. The utilization of the Problem-Based Learning model contributes significantly to the cultivation of students' critical thinking skills in the context of biology education.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in learning outcomes of Research Methods students at the Faculty of Engineering, Civil Engineering Study Program, Graha Nusantara University Padangsidimpuan through the application of scientific article learning and to find out the perceptions and involvement of students in learning scientific articles used, especially the Research Result Report material. This research is important to do to improve the learning quality of the Research Methods course so that students can easily learn it. The research method is an experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest research design because not all experimental characteristics and conditions can be regulated and controlled strictly as in other experimental research. Research instruments in the form of tests and questionnaires. Learning outcomes data were analyzed with the Wilcoxon and N-Gain tests. While the perceptions and involvement of students were analyzed with a Likert scale. The results showed that scientific articles increased student learning outcomes when learning Research Methods by 33.58%. Perception and involvement of students in learning with scientific articles obtained positive results. This can be seen from the average student scores in the perception and student involvement questionnaire, both of which are in the medium category. The results of this study show the effectiveness of learning scientific articles in the Research Methods course which shows that the level of success achieved from learning scientific articles is in accordance with the planned learning objectives

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the perceptions of fourth-semester students of the nurse study program regarding the online learning process for the English nursing course, along with the obstacles encountered and potential solutions to solve the obstacles. The questions of this study are; what are the perceptions of fourth-semester students in the nursing study program regarding the online learning process for the English nursing subject, what are the obstacles encountered in the online learning of the nursing English subject and what are the potential solutions to overcome these challenges? The research utilized a mixed-methods research method by administering questionnaires to all participants and interviewing 5 of them to collect data. The participants were selected by applying purposive sampling in choosing one out of two classes. There are 42 nursing students who actively participated in the English nursing course were chosen to become the participants of this study. The result shows that the students generally held positive perceptions of online learning in the Nursing English subject during the Covid-19 pandemic. They considered the utilization of online methods for teaching the subject to be acceptable and acknowledged the value of online learning as a viable alternative, particularly in the context of the pandemic. They also recognized that online learning had significant merits in the field of education, particularly when faced with obstacles such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Several obstacles were identified, including limitations in the interaction between teachers and students, inadequate network connectivity, the internet quota is limited due to financial aspects, substandard quality of mobile devices, minimal engagement during the lectures, causing adverse effects on students’ eye health, inadequate internal device memory, challenging in understanding the subject matter and limited monitoring of students. To address these, recommendations include: providing clear and structured materials, improving technical support, integrating interactive elements, balancing assignments with explanations, encouraging time management, creating engaging content, facilitating peer interactions, ensuring content accessibility, and establishing clear communication channels. These strategies mitigate challenges, ensuring a seamless learning experience that fosters holistic growth. In essence, this study underscores the significance of overcoming obstacles and implementing effective strategies to create a robust and supportive online learning environment for fourth-semester nursing students in the English nursing course.
