Abstract

Mastering English language is very important because it is the most spoken language in global interaction. In order to master English, early age linguistic education is required. Therefore, the most suitable method used in this research is the Total Physical Responses (TPR), which emphasizes on vocabulary, pronunciation, and motivation to study English. The purposes of this research are: 1) to increase English vocabulary by using the TPR teaching method in Kindergarten A at Ehipassiko School BSD; 2) to increase English pronunciation by using the TPR teaching method in Kindergarten A Ehipassiko School BSD; 3) to increase motivation to study English by using the TPR teaching method in Kindergarten A Ehipassiko School BSD. This research was conducted in Kindergarten A Ehipassiko School BSD with  participants of 18 students, consists of 8 boys and 10 girls. The type of this research is pre-experimental research. The results showed an increased vocabulary, pronunciation, and motivation to study English through the method of TPR. It can be seen from the results of the N-Gain, vocabulary 0.755 was in the high category, the pronunciation in the medium category was 0.45 and 0.54 for motivation which is fall into the medium category. Based on the results of this research can be concluded that the teaching of English through the TPR teaching method can increase vocabulary, pronunciation, and motivation to study English.

Abstract

The study of the students in Kindergarten B Cikal School, Jakarta is based on the weaknesses of students capability in recognizing complex pattern and in order to fostering children’s critical thinking. Based on the problem stated, a solution that will be given was through guided inquiry method. The purpose of this research is to describe children’s ability in recognizing pattern and in fostering critical thinking through guided inquiry method for Kindergarten B children in Cikal School, Jakarta. This research used Classroom Action Research (action research class) is designed in three form of a repeating cycles. Each cycle comprises four phases: planning, action, observation and reflection. The subjects in this study were 6 children from the total of 20 children, that consisted of 3 boys and 3 girls in Kindergarten B Cikal School Jakarta. Collecting data technique that used was qualitative descriptive. Thus, the conclusion is that by using a quided inquiry method can increase the ability of recognizing pattern also fostering children in critical thinking in Kindergaten B Sekolah Cikal, Jakarta.

Abstract

Early drawing, writing, and reading are some good aspects that can be developed to nurture children’s language acquisition from early childhood.  Environment stimulation is also one of important aspects, of which includes learning resources and teacher’s awareness of the importance of personal approach toward students. The problem that is encountered by Kindergarten 2 teachers is some students have difficulties in their early drawing, writing, and reading. This issue had brought the researcher’s attention to analyze the problem and tried to find solution, which one of them is the use of Sandpaper Letters with Montessori approach to develop early drawing, writing, and reading abilities. This research is a weak experimental research to 10 Kindergarten 2 students recommended by the homeroom teachers. The treatment used sandpaper letters with the Montessori approach for six weeks with one on one session. The result from pretest and posttest of drawing skill was N-gain 0,64 (medium), the writing skills N-gain 0,7 (high), and reading skills N-gain 0,7 (high). Based on the result, it is showed that Sandpaper letters with Montessori approach could affect the improvement of difference pace learner in early drawing, writing, and reading skills at kindergarten.

Abstract

The existence of Sunday Schools is considered important for both the people and church leaders because a Sunday School is not just a place for our children to listen to the Bible stories. As a result, this study aims to describe, identify the struggles and analyze the obstacles of the Sunday School teachers to maintain consistency in their teaching preparations. A case study was used, involving 12 participants at the Indonesian Christian Church XYZ. The data were collected using the questionnaires and in-depth interviews and were triangulated using the coding system (Strauss & Corbin, 1989). The results have indicated that the Shared Christian Praxis helps the Sunday School teachers to maintain consistency in attending the collective teaching preparations, helps to transform their personal lives for the better ways of teaching, and also directs them to share their teaching experiences.

Abstract

Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) is a reading method with a purpose to increase enjoyment in reading. The enjoyment in reading will improve the reading skills which lead to increased reading motivation, vocabulary knowledge, and reading comprehension. This research was conducted to know the effect of SSR to grade 1 students’ reading motivation, vocabulary knowledge, and reading comprehension as young learners. The research design used a quantitative, pre-experimental one group pretest and posttest method. 24 students of 1E class of Elementary School X who received the SSR treatment are the subjects of this research. To collect the data, the researcher did a literature review and used instruments such as reading motivation questionnaire which is adapted from MRQ and RAI (Wigfield & Guthrie, 1997), vocabulary and reading comprehension tests. The data were analyzed using SPSS v. 21 software, with descriptive and inferential statistics (Paired Sample t-test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks). After the treatments, there were increment in the students’ reading motivation (t = 4.881; ρ = 0.000), vocabulary knowledge (Z = -2.453; ρ = 0.014), and reading comprehension (Z = -3.539; ρ = 0.000). These analyses showed that the SSR method brought improvements to the students’ reading motivation, vocabulary knowledge, and reading comprehension.

Abstract

The background of this research is the low literacy, participation, and collaboration ability of students. The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the learning process. This study aims to determine student perceptions related to the implementation of digital literacy media on participation, collaboration skills, student satisfaction, and cognitive learning achievement in geography subjects. The subjects in this study were 162 students of class XI and XII social studies at XYZ private high school in South Tangerang. This research is a quantitative descriptive study using a simple regression test to measure. Data collection techniques using a questionnaire in the form of google form. The research instrument used is a variable to measure students' perceptions about the implementation of digital literacy, participation, collaboration skills, and student satisfaction. The results showed that students' perceptions about the implementation of digital literacy media affected the participation of 38.2%. Students' perceptions of digital literacy media also affect 50.2% of collaboration skills and 64.3% of student satisfaction. Participation and collaboration ability did not show any effect on cognitive learning achievement, it was seen from the sig value. > 0.05 and Fcount. < Ftable. Cognitive learning achievement is influenced by student satisfaction and perceptions regarding digital literacy media in geography online learning by 5.4% and 2.5%, respectively. So it can be concluded that students' perceptions of digital literacy media help students learn in geography online learning.
