Abstract

The course curriculum of Bahasa Indonesia Diploma Program Language and Literature Year 11 expects students to obtain political awareness to analyse text in objective manner. This awareness supports students in doing assessments especially Paper 1, which always contains political texts. Observation, questionnaire, and pretest evident the low, even the non-existence of awareness. The fact that students were not exposed to political news and Indonesian context, hindranced students from comprehensing political texts. The solution for this is to exercise political socialization through class action research and contextual learning, to help students see the relevance of studied material with their lives. Relating Experiencing Applying Cooperating Transferring (REACT) strategy were implemented to support contextual learning to raise political awareness through media literacy, language analysis, and motivation. Data is gathered from observation, questionnaires, and writtens tests against media literacy and language analysis rubrics. Whilst motivation is seen through observation against Attention Relevant Confidence  Satisfaction (ARCS) design of motivation rubric. Data is processed in qualitative descriptive way, in which results demonstrated that political awareness and motivation are improved. Media literacy mastery for each indicator, reaches 67% to 89%. The mastery for language analysis reaches 67% for all indicator, while for motivation reaches 67% to 100%.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Kurikulum kelas Bahasa Indonesia Program Diploma Bahasa dan Sastra kelas 11 mengharapkan siswa memiliki kesadaran politik untuk menganalisis teks secara objektif. Kesadaran ini mendukung siswa ketika mengerjakan asesmen, terutama Paper I yang selalu mengeluarkan teks bermuatan politik. Observasi, kuesioner, dan pretes ujian tertulis menunjukkan bahwa bahwa kesadaran itu sangat rendah, bahkan tidak ada. Fakta bahwa siswa tidak banyak terekspos dengan berita politik dan konteks masyarakat Indonesia mempersulit pemahaman mereka terhadap teks politik. Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, sosialisasi politik diimplementasikan melalui Penelitian tindakan kelas, dengan pembelajaran kontekstual yang berfungsi untuk menyadarkan siswa akan relevansi materi terhadap kehidupan sehari-hari. Strategi Relating Experiencing Applying Cooperating Transferring (REACT) mendukung pembelajaran kontekstual dalam rangka meningkatkan kesadaran politik melalui literasi media, analisis bahasa, dan motivasi. Data didapatkan dari observasi, kuesioner, dan ujian tertulis berdasarkan rubrik literasi media dan analisis bahasa. Sedangkan aspek motivasi dilihat melalui observasi  yang didasarkan pada Desain motivasi Attention Relevance Confidence Satisfaction (ARCS). Data ini kemudian diolah secara kualitatif deskriptif,  dan hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan kesadaran politik dan motivasi. Indikator variabel literasi media mencapai ketuntasan belajar antara 67% sampai 89%. Pada variabel analisis bahasa, setiap indikator mencapai ketuntasan belajar 67%. Variable motivasi mencapai tingkat keberhasilan pada setiap indikator dengan rentang 67% sampai 100%.

Abstract

In learning Mandarin, speaking skills are the core of effective learning in Mandarin. The ability of students in practice speaking skills, shows that they comprehend and master the vocabularies that have been achieved well. In fact, speaking skills on grade 3 XYZ Elementary School students have not been achieved well. Many related factors affect the students’ speaking skills in Mandarin, including self-efficacy, self-confidence, and the use of media presentation. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of self-efficacy, self-confidence, and media presentation of Mandarin speaking skills of grade 3 students XYZ Elementary School. The subjects of the study were the entire population of grade 3 students of XYZ Elementary School. This research uses quantitative approach with Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis tool. The design used in this study was multiple linear regression with a quantitative approach. Data collection was done by distributing questionnaires and assessing using a speaking rubric. The result of the research shows that self-efficacy, self-confidence, and perception of media presentation usage have a positive effect on Chinese speaking skill of grade 3 XYZ Elementary School students.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Dalam belajar bahasa Mandarin, keterampilan berbicara adalah merupakan inti pembelajaran efektif dari bahasa Mandarin itu sendiri. Kemampuan anak dalam mempraktekkan keterampilan berbicara, menunjukkan pada pemahaman dan penguasaan kosa kata yang sudah tercapai dengan baik. Pada Kenyataannya, keterampilan berbicara pada siswa kelas 3 SD XYZ belum tercapai dengan baik. Banyak faktor berkaitan yang mempengaruhi keterampilan berbicara siswa dalam bahasa Mandarin, diantaranya efikasi diri, percaya diri, dan penggunaan media presentasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh efikasi diri, percaya diri, dan penggunaan media presentasi terhadap keterampilan berbicara bahasa Mandarin siswa kelas 3 SD XYZ. Adapun subyek penelitian adalah seluruh populasi siswa kelas 3 SD XYZ. Pendekatan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan alat analisis Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah regresi linear berganda dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menyebarkan kuesioner dan melakukan penilaian menggunakan rubrik berbicara. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa efikasi diri, percaya diri, dan persepi penggunaan media presentasi berpengaruh positif terhadap keterampilan berbicara bahasa Mandarin siswa kelas 3 SD XYZ.

Abstract

Indonesia is a religion based country. Religion studies should be positioned as school’s curriculum priority, both in public and private school. Integrated Christianity and moral studies might be the solution of conflicts within family, school, community, both national and international societies. One of many values that urgently needs to be promoted is an attitude of tolerance in facing our multicultural society. School as an educational institution has an important role in teaching tolerance skill to students as early age. One of the challenges is finding the right method to deliver the abstract concepts to children who are in the stage of pre-operational concrete. This research has done an introductionary study towards the bullying case that happened earlier in the researchers workplace 4th and 5th graders within 4 months. Therefore, this research address the urgency of an integrated curriculum of Christianity studies with moral studies practices, specifically on multicultural values through experiential learning with filmed role-play. Research was conducted in XYZ School for primary 3, 4 and 5. This instructional strategy resulted in increase of attitude of tolerance both in cognitive and behavior domain, but has no increase in the affective domain. All respondents agree by implementing filmed role-play has contributed to their deeper understanding towards the concept of tolerance.

Abstract

The Nursery Sunday School of GBI Tanah Abang was accustomed to share God’s words by story telling method. Nevertheless, the method raised issues, where the children easily got bored and their faith as well as social behavior were not improved. Based on those issues, the teacher was eager to look for improvement by carrying out classroom action research through active play method. This study aimed at: (1) describing the implementation of active playing method, (2) analyzing children’s faith and social behaviors, (3) identifying the obstacles of active-play method’s implementation. Prior to this study, seven children were chosen as research subjects to participate in three cycles. The data was obtained by observation, field notes, teacher’s interview, lesson plan documentation, and parents’ questionnaires. The study results: (1) improving actions are done according to the active playing method sequences with improvements on the next cycle (2) 86% of all students achieve high level of faith behavior (3) 71% of all students reach intermediate to high level of social behavior (4) arising obstacles are the limitations of students in communication, lack of knowledge and preparation of teachers regarding to playing method, learning time constraints, as well as the limitations of existing facilities.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Sekolah minggu GBI Tanah Abang memiliki kelas untuk anak usia Balita, di mana, firman Tuhan biasa dibagikan dengan menggunakan metode bercerita. Namun hal tersebut membuat anak-anak cepat bosan serta iman dan perilaku sosialnya tidak berkembang. Berdasarkan kerisauan guru tersebut maka dilakukan tindakan perbaikan berupa penelitian tindakan kelas dengan menerapkan metode bermain. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: (1) mendeskripsikan penerapan metode bermain, (2) menganalisis perilaku iman dan sosial anak, (3) mengidentifikasi kendala-kendala dalam penerapan metode bermain. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus, dengan subjek tujuh anak. Data didapat melalui  observasi, catatan lapangan, wawancara guru, dokumentasi RPP, dan kuesioner kepada orang tua. Setelah itu data dianalisis secara kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan: (1) tindakan perbaikan dilakukan sesuai dengan langkah metode bermain dengan penyempurnaan pada siklus berikutnya, (2) terlihat peningkatan perilaku iman hingga 86% siswa mencapai tingkat tinggi, (3) terlihat peningkatan perilaku sosial hingga 71% siswa mencapai tingkat sedang hingga tinggi, (4) kendala-kendala yang dihadapi antara lain keterbatasan siswa dalam berkomunikasi, kurangnya pengetahuan dan persiapan guru mengenai metode bermain, keterbatasan waktu pembelajaran, serta keterbatasan fasilitas yang ada.

Abstract

The writing process approach is used to help students to write more competently through stages of the approach. The design of Static-Group Pretest-Postest is used to investigate the increase on students' writing skills, oral communication skills and learning motivation in Indonesian classes. The subject of the study was 41 Grade 8 students consisting of 21 students in experiment group and 20 students in control group. The study was conducted by implementing the writing process approach as the treatment in experiment class and conventional approach in the control class. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon test by comparing the results between pretest and posttest, and Mann Whitney test was used to find the difference between two groups. The findings show that there were increase on writing skills in middle category (N gain =0.48; p =0.000), oral communication skills in middle category (N gain = 0,47; p = 0,000), and learning motivation in low category (N gain = 0,25; p = 0,000) after the implementation of the writing process.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted to offer solutions for Dapur Solo (DS) Restaurant as the waiters’ service quality and communication skill did not meet expectations: (1) the previous training had been done by the direct supervisor of the waiters; (2) optimal training had never been done, not inline with the training theory and management expectation;(3) no assessment had been used to measure the success of training. This CAR was done in three cycles.  The subjects of this research were seven waiters of DS Jakarta. The data collection was conducted with observations, field notes, written assessments, rubrics and documentations with descriptive qualitative analysis. The result of this research showed: (1) there was an improvement in the learning: there were instructional design, post-training implementation in accordance to the lesson plans, and assessments to measure the success of the training; (2) 86% of the training participants had increased on the quality of service; and (3) 100% of the training participants had increased on communication skills.

Abstract

Writing in English takes place intensively but students’ writing motivation was low and their writing improvement didn’t meet the expectation. This situation raised concerns which led to improvement planning that aimed to 1) describe the implementation process of Dialogue Journals, 2) analyze the development of students’ writing motivation, 3) analyze the development of students’ writing skills, and 4) identify obstacles faced during the process of implementation and solutions to overcome them. This research used a classroom action research which consisted of three cycles and was conducted at Australian Independent School with six grade 4 EAL students involved. Resources of data collection were based on class observation, study of documentation, and measurement of students’ writing motivation and writing skills using writing motivation and writing rubric. The results of the research showed that 1) Dialogue Journals were applied based of suggestive steps and plans, 2) 5 out of 6 students’ writing motivation raised , 3) 5 out 6 students’ writing skills improved, 4) obstacles had been identified which included students’ absence, emotional, and behavioural problems which needed immediate solution, and teacher time management to reply to students, and learning tool availability and access. Solutions to the related obstacles were arranged and applied.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Kegiatan menulis bahasa Inggris siswa EAL kelas 4 berlangsung secara intensif namun motivasi menulis siswa rendah dan perkembangan keterampilan menulis siswa tidak sesuai harapan. Kondisi ini merisaukan. Bermula dari kerisauan ini, guru melakukan tindakan perbaikan dengan penerapan Dialogue Journals yang bertujuan: 1) mendeskripsikan proses penerapan Dialogue Journals, 2) menganalisis perkembangan motivasi menulis bahasa Inggris, 3) menganalisis perkembangan keterampilan menulis bahasa Inggris, dan 4) mengidentifikasi kendala yang dihadapi selama proses penerapan berlangsung dan solusinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Penelitian dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus di Australian Independent School (AIS). Subyek penelitian terdiri dari enam orang siswa dan siswi kelas 4. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, studi dokumentasi dan penilaian dengan menggunakan rubrik, serta dianalisis secara kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1) penerapan Dialogue Journals sesuai dengan langkah-langkah yang disarankan dan direncanakan, 2) motivasi menulis 5 dari 6 orang siswa meningkat, 3) keterampilan menulis 5 dari 6 siswa meningkat dan 4) kendala dalam proses penerapan diantaranya ketidakhadiran siswa, masalah sikap yang timbul yang perlu penanganan segera, manajemen waktu guru,  penggunaan  dan ketersediaan fasilitas alat bantu. Solusi berupa penyediaan strategi manajemen emosi dan sikap, mengatur waktu dan mendorong siswa belajar secara mandiri.

Abstract

Music is part of human life. Studies show that music influences psychological, cognitive, behavior, and emotion sides of human being. Research shows that music also influences students’ performance on reading comprehension test and test anxiety level. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of classical and personal preference music on students’ reading comprehension test performance and test anxiety level at grade XII SMAK 4 PENABUR Jakarta. The experiment design of this study is Pretest Posttest Non-Randomly Assigned Design. The students in experiment group get a treatment that is listening to classical music fifteen minutes before and while doing reading comprehension test. Students in another experiment group get a treatment that is listening personal preference music fifteen minutes before and while doing reading comprehension test in English class. Mean obtained from pretest and posttest of experiment class will be compared with mean from pretest and posttest of control class to explain whether or not they are statistically different. The study shows that classical and personal preference music influence students’ reading comprehension performance and test anxiety. Study also shows that there is negative correlation between students’ test anxiety and reading comprehension performance.

Abstract

In XYZ elementary school, most grade 2 students show a lack of curiosity when learning Bible as a study subject, which cause the low participation score in learning that subject. Those students also show difficulties when doing the summative test which is caused by their deficiency in comprehending the written Bible story. Moreover, the students show minimum reflective thinking skill which needs to be noticed because the skill is important for learning process in the class. Those reasons show that grade 2 students’ curiosity, reading comprehension and reflective thinking skill when learning Biblical Studies need to be improved. KWHLAQ is a well-known strategy which is suitable to be used in improving the students’ curiosity, reading comprehension and reflective thinking skill. Therefore, this research was conducted to know the difference of students’ curiosity, reading comprehension and reflective thinking skill before and after using the KWHLAQ strategy. The research design used a quantitative, experimental one group pretest and posttest method. The subject of this research were 25 students of XYZ Elementary School – grade 2A which consist of 13 boys and 12 girls. The sample were chosen using purposive sampling technique. The data were analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics (Paired Sample T-test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks). The results showed that there were differences in grade 2A students’ curiosity, reading comprehension, and reflective thinking skill in learning Biblical studies after applying the KWHLAQ strategy.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Kurangnya rasa ingin tahu siswa pada pelajaran Pendidikan Agama Kristen (PAK) di SD XYZ menyebabkan rendahnya nilai partisipasi siswa dalam pelajaran PAK. Pemahaman membaca Alkitab juga kurang ditumbuhkan dalam diri siswa terlihat dari kesulitan siswa mengerjakan tes sumatif. Kurangnya kemampuan berpikir reflektif siswa perlu mendapat perhatian dalam pembelajaran di kelas. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa rasa ingin tahu, pemahaman membaca, dan kemampuan berpikir reflektif siswa dalam pelajaran PAK di SD XYZ perlu ditingkatkan. Strategi KWHLAQ adalah strategi yang sangat baik diterapkan dalam pembelajaran PAK untuk meningkatkan rasa ingin tahu, pemahaman siswa, dan kemampuan berpikir reflektif siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan rasa ingin tahu, pemahaman membaca, dan kemampuan berpikir reflektif siswa dengan menggunakan strategi KWHLAQ. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode eksperimental. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah one-group pretest-posttest. Subyek penelitian terdiri dari 25 siswa terdiri dari 13 laki-laki dan 12 perempuan yang seluruhnya berasal dari siswa kelas 2A SD XYZ Jakarta Barat. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan inferensial (Uji Paired Sample T-test dan Uji Wilcoxon). Temuan penelitian mengungkapkan adanya perbedaan rasa ingin tahu, pemahaman membaca, dan kemampuan berpikir reflektif siswa kelas 2A SD XYZ dalam pelajaran PAK sesudah penerapan strategi KWHLAQ.

Abstract

Students’ mathematics achievement is the priority for the XYZ elementary school, but particularly in 2015 and 2016 school’s years, there was about 39% student who had poor mathematics achievement and didn’t pass the school’s minimum requirement. In most cases, student’s mathematics achievement is generally affected by two internal factors such as: student’s intelligence and visual perceptual skills. The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between intelligence, visual perceptual skills and the students’ mathematics achievement. The subject of this study were grade two and grade three students with the total sample of 43 pupils. This study employed the Test of Visual Perceptual Skills-third edition (TVPS-3) and the Culture-Fair Intelligence Test (CFIT). The results of this study showed that there was a positive and significant correlation between intelligence, visual perceptual skills and mathematics achievement. A correlation value of 0.664 was obtained for the relationship between intelligence and mathematics achievement. A correlation value of 0.723 was obtained for the relationship between visual perceptual skills and mathematics achievement and a correlation value of 0.903 was obtained for the relationship between intelligence and visual perceptual skills. These findings indicate that the higher the level of the student’s intelligence and visual perceptual skill, the higher their mathematics achievement too.
