Abstract

This research is conducted to analyze the hedonistic behavior of male group students revealed in Lone Scherfig’s The Riot Club (2014) movie and the social reactions towards hedonistic behavior in The Riot Club (2014) movie. There are two problem statements in this research. First, how are hedonistic behavior by male group students revealed in The Riot Club (2014) movie? Second, how are the social reactions towards hedonistic behavior by male group students seen in The Riot Club (2014) movie? The researcher used the qualitative method to examine the problem. The theory and approaches that the researcher used is Sociology of Literature, Hedonism, and Social Class. The result of this study show that hedonistic behaviors are realized in actions and appearance, do free sex like the members do, then hangout at cafes or restaurants to have fun, and use illegal drugs such as cocaine and often drink alcohol such as vodka. Second, disappointment and rejection are forms of social reaction towards hedonistic behavior by The Riot Club.

Abstract

This research is conducted to analyze the diegetic sound and the components that built it played in the constructions of the jump scare in the A Quiet Place (2018) movie. There are two problem statements that the researcher formulated in this research, first what are the diegetic sound components that are part of the jump scare in the A Quiet Place (2018) movie? Second, how does the diegetic sound build jump scare in the A Quiet Place (2018) movie? The researcher used the qualitative method to examine the problem. The theory and approaches that the researcher used is Film Analysis, Diegetic Sounds, and Jump Scare. This study also includes the procedures of collecting data and procedure of analyzing data. The result of this study, first the diegetic sound indicated by the sound that came from the film's world shown by the situation by dominantly incorporating various natural or environmental diegetic sounds and using minimal dialogue in the A Quiet Place (2018) movie. Second, includes the roles of diegetic sounds in building jump scare in A Quiet Place (2018) movie.

Abstract

Stress is a familiar word in the modern era, it appears even in the movie without anyone is aware. This research discusses the stress phenomenon reflected in Pete Docter’s Soul (2020) movie. The objective of the research is to explain appraisal and coping, the two basic concepts of stress that appear in the Soul (2020) movie. The qualitative method is used in this to explore the stress phenomenon deeply. The research is conducted by applying stress, appraisal, and copping theory by Richard S. Lazarus and Susan Folkman as the based theory to examine the data research. As result, stress revealed on the character in Soul (2020) movie has two components which are appraisal and coping that have their function to increase and decrease stress. While most of the appraisal is increases stress of the characters, it apparently enhances the well-being of the characters or does not affect the character's stress level. Furthermore, coping appears to relieve stress the character gained from the event they have encounter.

Abstract

Emotion Regulation is a familiar word in today's modern era, even appearing in movies without anyone knowing it. This study discusses the phenomenon of emotion regulation as a method for survival that occurs to the main character in the movie Monster Hunter (2020). This study aims to explain three factors, namely monitoring emotions, evaluating emotions, and modifying emotions in the movie Monster Hunter (2020). Qualitative methods are used in this case to explore the phenomenon of emotion regulation in depth. The research was conducted by applying the theory of emotion regulation by Gross J.J as the basic theory to test the research data. The results of the analysis show that (1) the regulation of emotions revealed to the characters in the Monster Hunter (2020) film has three types, namely monitoring emotions, evaluating emotions, and modifying emotions at each stage. This stage occurs from the events faced by the characters. From the regulation of emotions that occur, this character can take revenge or even the character can think positively and rationally in survival.
