The Indonesia Journal of Business Administration(IJBA) is a business journal that bridges the gap between business research and practice, evaluating and reporting on new research to help readers identify and understand significant trends in their fields. The IJBA seeks to publish papers relating to business, broadly defined. It publishes articles that address both theoretical and practical issues in the broad areas of Business Strategy and Marketing, People and Knowledge Management, Entrepreneurship and Technology Management, Decision Making and Strategic Negotiation, Operation and Performance Management, and Business Risk and Finance.Contributing academicians and researchers are encouraged to address a variety of concerns relating to all areas of business. We also encourage students to use an interdisciplinary approach to analyzing a topic, which often yields interesting and novel papers. The published articles provide valuable insight into matters of broad intellectual and practical concern to academicians and business professionals. The Journalis published three times a year: in April, July and October. The journal is mainly an outlet of MBA ITB students to publish their final project works, although it also accepts articles written by students at masters level from other institutions. A published paper is an honor that will be unambiguously beneficial for professional and academic careers, especially for those who want to attend graduate/professional schools. This means that papers written in relations to Accounting, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Management, Operations Management, Information Systems, Business Law, Corporate Ethics, and Public Policy all qualify for submission. Information on the journal format can be found in the journal's website. The number of pages must be at 10 pages. After published, the journal article will be available electronically at the journal's website. Print ISSN: 2252-3464; Online ISSN: 2252-9284

Abstract

PT Pindad as one of the State Owned Enterprises in Indonesia, manufacturing the defense and security equipment recently conducting change in their business system by implementing Enterprise Resource Planning in the Weaponry Division. To support the implementation of ERP, it should be accompanied by good change management program. However current change management program seems to ignore the implementation stages features in Kotter 8-Steps. Anticipating this condition, the author suggesting Kotter 8-Steps as a basic framework of research. The findings from FGD and in-depth interview shows that Step-3: Creating a Vision, Steps-4: Communicating Vision for Buy-in and Step-5: Empowering Action had not been done systematically causing the possibility of failure looming large. To support the analysis, STAR Model of organization, Strategy Map, and DICE Framework were being used to fill the void on the Kotter Program. However, PT Pindad had not done Kotter’s Step-6 to Step-8 because the change management process was still in the preliminary phase. Keywords: PT. Abstract

This work is aimed at optimizing the operational management bydeciding upon articles composition to be made on differentprocess flow and capacity within an industrial situation. Morespecifically: matching the quantity and arrangement of ordervariation to assign appropriate tasks to applicable productionunits. The problem arises due to various process flows and task timenecessary to produce different articles. Appropriate productcomposition is expected to minimize set up time, and increaseoverall machine utilization and efficiency. Similar issue have astrong importance in textile industries, eminently in filamentwoven textile manufacture in which the process load variesdynamically upon fabrics construction. To present the solution, an MRP model is constructed as apreliminary analysis on process and raw material requirementfor each order. The MRP model’s output will be mapped into acapacity map that is constructed based on real life machinescapacities and task times. Subsequently, product mixcombination is derived through application of linearprogramming simulation to minimize capacity waste. Keywords: textile, MRP, linear programming, productionplanning, strategic capacity mapping

Abstract

The study aims to improve the tender evaluation, particularly in selection criteria. The criteria and attributes were gathered from current procedures and other companies as a benchmark, and also selected some others from 40 attributes introduced by Ling which were suitable with the company’s condition being researched. Later on, a survey using a questionnaire was distributed to project owners and consultant’s employees as the respondents using the Likert scale method to assess the performance level of the vendors in delivering service and level of importance for each criterion and attribute. By using MAVT (multi-attribute value technique), the weights were calculated. Meanwhile, the bid proposal was rated with a standard ratings scale. A formula that showed the relation between the weights and rating was created. This formula proposed the total aggregate score for the technical evaluation. And by summarizing aggregate scores with the bid price score, the highest-scored bidder would be awarded. Another factor discovered in this research was the importance of leadership to manage the team and resources well during delivering a great service for the project owner. Keywords:    project management, criteria, attribute, weights, rating, aggregate score, and leadership.

Abstract

As a state owned company, PT. Len Industri(Persero), an electronic industry and infrastructure company, has passed three transformation phases throughout its effort inimproving the company performance in the passed 20 years. Inthe final state of the third transformation phase, despite itssignificant sales growth (averaging to 30 percent per year from2006), PT. Len is unable to achieve the expected KPI (keyperformance Indicator) for NPM (net profit margin) of 5% set bythe stake holder. In order to achieve the requested NPM, PT. Len has to carefullyselect projects with low COGS only (80% to 85%). This can onlybe done through a high value project content which means usingan innovative product that has a high selling value or bydeveloping an innovative business model which can givesignificantly higher return. In this case study, the latter choice ischosen.Business model initiative is not new to PT. Len, but acomprehensive way of creating the business model that involvesdetails steps has never been generated. The designing take exampleone of the business lines in the integrated PV (photovoltaic)system supply. This business is then recast into the standardizedformat of business model canvas and unbundled to get a new corebusiness. This new core business will improve the NPM of PT.Len Industri. Keywords: NPM, Business Model, COGS, KPI , Unbundling businesspattern

Abstract

Compressor play the prominent role of the compressed air system. If The compressor find the trouble itself, then air supply to production line will be terminated. One of the big problem of Compressor ZR 5  take place on intercooler.Intercooler is the compressor component which function to cool compressed air inside the compressor so that the compressor  will not be overheated. If overheated happens, then the alarm on compressor display will show “High Air Temperature on LP Element Outlet”.Consequently, the compressor will shut down automatically & must be replaced by other standby compressor.Even intercooler routine maintenance is already performed periodically refer to maintenance manual itself, ( running hour/time based), however  this alarm indication frequently  shown pior to entering next period of maintenance schedule.PM Analysis (field observation) & root cause Analysis implementation lead to the cause of  the alarm indication. They consist of: low flow rate of cooling water that caused by  stuck strainer (filter) on the pipe line, imperfect contact between cooling water  and compressed air due to poor quality of cooling water, Delay on Detection problem  and lack of skill to analyse alarm trouble data. The proposed countermeasure will be provided as follows : relocate strainer position so that easy maintenance could be executed, to modify new pipe line with new cooling water source (from treated reuse water to public water) with more compliance  to water requirement, Introduction of stochastic method  (replacement & inspection model) to predict effective inspection, cleaning and replacement of intercooler, maintenance management training provision including  diagnostic problem and  water cooling system maintenance of compressor. However, the countermeasure mentioned above only to encounter abnormality found at the time of observation to compressor cooling water system. By applying combined RCM & RBI method, other potential cause that might result in the same problem could be identified, so that the problem will not be recurrence. The countermeasure (corrective action) & preventive action need should be analised for the pros & cons (cost & benefit analysis) so that this activity will provide important information for management. Based on the CBA, this activity will provide payback period for 3 months. The activity will involve external party (contractor) to perform corrective action & internal party (operator member) to conduct maintenance task as already scheduled.   Keywords: Intercooler,,PM analysis, Root Cause Analysis, RCM & RBI, Stochastic  Method

Abstract

Indonesian paint market is one of the fastest growing  markets in the world (CAGR 2009-2011 at 8.3 %) and the market still has huge potency to grow due to the paint consumption per capita (PCP) still low at 2.8 kg/person (world PCP at 6-7 kg/person). On the other side, paint companies currently faced pressure on profit margin due to the more strict competition and increase of the key raw materials price (eg. TiO2 and binder). PT.XYZ, a paint company, has established in Indonesia since 1983. By 2010, its sales just accounted for  2.2 % market share, and just use 48.3 % of its total production capacity. From the external and internal environmental analysis concluded that the main problems (weaknesses) faced by XYZ are the lack of advertising programs that cause low brand awareness of its products, and lack of high skills marketing human resources. The root cause of the problems is the absence of strategic management processes at PT. XYZ. The purpose of this research is to propose the strategy formulation and the implementation plan for PT. XYZ to improve its performance through strategic management processes. The proposed business strategy is “differentiation” strategy via its distribution, products, and services. The functional strategy generated via TOWS matrix are categorized into marketing strategy, operation strategy, financial strategy, and human resources strategy. A Focused Group Discussion (FGD) was performed to evaluate, select, and make prioritizing of the selected strategies. The selected strategies and the priority are: market penetration strategy, product development strategy,  and market expansion to other geographical markets. The implementation of the selected strategies are through developing integrated programs and actions plan at each functional departments. The marketing programs are focused to increase its product brand awareness  and increase sales via advertising, sales promotion and more focus in project channels. The operation programs are increase actual production capacity and establish efficient operation. The human resources programs are to provide the HR needed to execute the selected strategies and establish good HR management practices  at SCI for the long-run program. Then, the financial program is raising external funds and manage funds efficient and effectively. Key words: strategic management, corporate strategy, business strategy, functional strategy, program and action plan
