Abstract

This article aims to examine the application of liberation theology in Indonesian Islam, focusing on the efforts of Muhammad Ainun Nadjib (Cak Nun) and the Maiyah Community Assembly, analyzed through Ali Shari’ati's concept of rausyanfikr. The study aims to explore how Cak Nun contextualizes Islam to address contemporary issues of injustice, oppression, and social alienation. Utilizing qualitative library research methods, it investigates various literary sources to evaluate the role of Islamic teachings in cultural and social emancipation. Findings indicate that Cak Nun and the Maiyah Community Assembly have played crucial roles in heightening community awareness about prevalent oppression, employing the Quran and Islamic thought as tools for liberation. The study concludes that Islam, as interpreted by Cak Nun, serves as an effective means for societal change, promoting a comprehensive application of Islamic teachings to address modern societal challenges. This research holds significant implications for scholars and practitioners interested in the intersections of religion and social transformation.

Abstract

In the modern era, homilies do not only convey religious doctrine but also address contemporary challenges in religious life. This study aims to analyse the impact of using illustrations—stories, wise sayings, and personal experiences—in homilies on the understanding and reception of God’s Word by the congregation. Descriptive qualitative research was conducted at St. Thomas the Apostle Onan Rihit Station, utilizing in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis to collect data. Findings indicate that the use of illustrations in homilies not only deepens the understanding of the Gospel teachings but also enhances the congregation's engagement with the community and the application of these teachings in daily life. Homilies are effective in enhancing resonance and attention from the congregation, demanding more empathetic and creative approaches in delivery. The results of this study underscore the importance of adaptation and innovation in homiletic practices to respond to contemporary religious life dynamics

Abstract

The Sacrament of Reconciliation, central to Catholic doctrine, facilitates the restoration of relationships between the penitent, the community, and the divine. This study examines the implementation and experiences of the sacrament through the essential acts of repentance, confession, and penance, highlighting their roles in spiritual and moral transformations. Employing a qualitative approach, the research gathered data through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation at Stasi Santo Thomas Rasul Onan Rihit. The findings reveal that repentance initiates spiritual renewal while confession promotes transparency and humility, thereby strengthening communal bonds. Penance, tailored to individual transgressions, not only addresses past wrongs but also fosters spiritual growth and community harmony. Challenges remain in fully engaging penitents with the sacrament, pointing to the need for enhanced pastoral support and theological education. This study underscores the sacrament's enduring relevance and its capacity to facilitate profound spiritual life within the contemporary Catholic context.

Abstract

In Indonesia, religious life is a crucial aspect of national identity, as reflected in the 1945 Constitution. In Mbawa, a village in Donggo Ipa, religious diversity and local cultural values, such as tolerance and mutual respect, play a key role in fostering social harmony and preventing interfaith conflict. This study aims to analyze interfaith harmony and cultural dynamics in Mbawa Village, Indonesia, focusing on the practices of social and cultural tolerance. Employing a descriptive qualitative research method, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. The findings reveal that interfaith tolerance in Mbawa Village is fostered through a strong kinship system, the Kaco'i Angi culture, and the practice of mutual assistance, supporting robust social harmony. The study concludes that interfaith tolerance in Mbawa Village reflects a deep integration of cultural and religious elements. The implications of this study suggest the need for policies supporting the preservation of cultural rituals like Raju to strengthen communal solidarity.

Employing a qualitative approach, the research involves observations, interviews, and documentation to examine how sexism affects women's job opportunities across various sectors. The findings reveal that despite legal progress, sexism remains deeply ingrained, manifesting through discriminatory practices that impede women’s professional advancement and reinforce gender stereotypes. Muslim women encounter additional challenges related to compliance with Islamic teachings in the workplace, while Buddhist women face cultural prejudices that impact their employment opportunities. This study contributes to the gender equality discourse by providing insights into the specific experiences of women in Malaysia, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to combat sexism and promote a more equitable society.

Abstract

The concept of "Kampung Toleransi" (Tolerance Village) is becoming increasingly significant in Indonesia as a strategy to promote ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity. This study explores the implementation of the Kampung Toleransi initiative in Jamika Village, Bojongloa Kaler District, Bandung City, which serves as a model for fostering interfaith harmony. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving observations, in-depth interviews with community and religious leaders, and documentation analysis. The results indicate that Kampung Toleransi has successfully promoted interfaith harmony through diverse social and religious programs, educational initiatives, and economic activities. However, challenges such as funding constraints, scheduling conflicts among religious activities, and external threats from radical ideologies remain. The study concludes that enhancing community participation and improving coordination can further strengthen the sustainability of Kampung Toleransi. These findings offer valuable insights for replicating this model in other diverse communities across Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the impact of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and hedonism on consumptive behavior among Muslim millennials in Sibolga, North Sumatra, and how these behaviors interact with religious and social values within a culturally and religiously significant context. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research collected data through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving eleven Muslim millennials in Sibolga. The findings reveal that FoMO and hedonism contribute to increased consumption of luxury goods and experiences, driven by the desire to stay connected with global trends and achieve instant gratification, often at the expense of local religious values and traditions. This tension between engaging in modern lifestyles and maintaining cultural and religious identities presents a significant dilemma for the youth. The study suggests that educational and social interventions focused on sustainability values and spiritual awareness are necessary to help the younger generation balance the pressures of hedonism and excessive digital connectivity.

Abstract

Differences in beliefs in Indonesia often lead to social conflicts. This study aims to identify and analyze the role of religious figures in maintaining and fostering religious harmony in Banaran Village, which has been officially designated as Pancasila Village. The method used is qualitative with a descriptive-analytical approach, conducted in Pancasila Village, Banaran, Kandangan Subdistrict, Kediri Regency. The findings show that religious leaders have a significant influence on maintaining diversity harmony through inclusive approaches and interfaith dialogue. Religious leaders not only act as spiritual leaders but also as mediators and wise problem solvers amidst differences in beliefs and traditions. Through effective communication, tolerance, and inter-religious dialogue, they have successfully built and maintained social harmony in the village. However, they also face challenges, such as internal conflicts and disparities in resource access, requiring specific strategies to ensure a peaceful and harmonious community life.
