This research is carried out to investigate how the uses of Instagram application to improve students’ writing skill. The participant of this research is three students of seventh semester from English Department of IAIN Langsa in academic Years 2020/2021 who have been selected through purposive sampling based on certain characteristics. In here, there are 3 students. This research used qualitative method to gain the data; observation and documentation. Based on the results, they used Instagram features; photo and video sharing and social network to share their mind and daily activity on it. Therefore, they can use it to find many accounts that they wanted. And then, the researcher found that the participants searched and followed several educational accounts that contain learning English content. Concequently, the participants’ writing ability improve after they convey their ideas on Instagram. As the result, they were able to practice and apply what they have learnt before in writing English caption actively on their Instagram accounts. It also can be proven from their writing score which participant 1 obtained 83 score, participant 2 obtained 87 score and participant 3 obtained 62 score in writing English in the manner of using proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, appropriate content, appropriate vocabulary, and conveying clear information.

The title of the research is “English Teacher’ Perception on the Abolition of English Subject at Elementary Schools and Its Implication for Students at SMPN 1 Langsa”. The aimed of this research were to find out English teachers’ perception on the abolishment of English subject and its implication for students’ ability in learning English at SMPN 1 Langsa. This research used qualitative method. The data were collected by using observation andsemi structuredinterview. The subject of this research were two English teachers and involving the seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Langsa consisting of 30 students. Based on the result of research, the reseacher found that the teachers who teach English subject at Junior High School at SMPN 1 Langsa disagree with the abolishment of English subject at Elementary Schools. There were many students who had less motivation and difficulties in learning English at Junior High School level and the lesson starts from the beginning level. It can be concluded that the abolishment of English subject at Elementary school has implication on students’ ability in English subject at the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Langsa.

The purposes of this study are to analyze how the English learning materials are provided by an English teacher and what moral values are contained in English learning materials to improve students’ interest in learning English. To achieve the purposes of this study, the researcher used qualitative approach with case study type by taking place at MAS Nurul fata and data collection techniques are observation and interview with an English teacher and four students at the tenth grade students of MAS Nurul Fata. The data analysis in this study used Miles and Huberman framework. The result of this research showed that the English learning materials provided by teacher to the tenth-grade students are narrative text, announcement text and expressing an invitation. The moral values are contained in narrative text material are morals toward Allah in the form resignation, patience and sincere. The moral values are contained in announcement text material are moral toward environment in the form always clean and beautify the environment. The moral value is contained in expressing an invitation is moral toward fellow humans in the form hospitality.

The aims of this research were to find out students’ obstacles in determining sense of relation at English Department of IAIN Langsa and also their efforts to solve the problems. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method and the data were collected by using documentation and semi-structured interview. The subject of this research were the 25 students of sixth semester of English Department selected purposively. The results of the study showed that the students had difficulties in determining the sense of relation, especially homonym, homophone and homograph. The students could not identify phonetic symbols of homophone in a text. They did not memorize and did not understand the definition of the three types of homonymy. Students were unable to analyze words because of the similarity, and they could not determine the words in listening. The efforts made by the students to understand the homonym, homophone and homograph include learning and increasing vocabulary through online dictionary, learning from the internet, and social media, learning with friends and asking lecturers about sense of relation particularly homonym, homophone, and homograph.

The purposes of this study are to to know learning criteria based on Brian Tomlinson's Principle applied by the teacher in Teaching English. To achieve the purposes of this study, the researcher used qualitative approach with case study type by taking place at SMPN 2 Langsa and data collection techniques are from various data collection techniques, such as interviews, questionnaires and document analysis. While the data source is the subject of where the data can be obtained. The data sources in this study are person and paper. That way the teacher at SMPN 2 Langsa chose the RPP criteria based on Brian Tomlinson, namely Visual, dependent, independent and kinesthetic. Then to prove the results of the interview the author also directly evaluates students directly through documents or some questions given by the teacher. From the results of the document the writer found that students after learning using the RPP (lesson Plan) criteria based on Brian Tomlinson were able to answer very satisfying questions and even some students answered correctly all of the questions. The relationship between the principles of teaching and learning between RPP in Indonesia and abroad by Brian Tomlinson is that they have similarities in the preparation of lesson plan such as determining topics as learning references, learning objectives, time, learning media, and learning procedures.

The aim of this research is to analyze how the speaking class at Zawiyah English Club can improve the students’ speaking ability awareness. In conducting the study, this study used qualitative method with phenomenology approach. The total number of samples is 10 students who joined in Zawiyah English Club IAIN Langsa. The procedure of the collecting data or instrument used in this study with interviewed and observation method. The results of this research were successful in analyzing how the speaking class at Zawiyah English Club can improve the students’ speaking ability awareness. Conducting a monastic class program held in every Thursday regularly and when they are doing activities together, they keep trying to use English and everyone in the environment motivates each other. They feel aware to speak English and they always improve their skills eah other. They feel when they study, they are not under pressure. They also tend to prefer practicing speaking in the speaking classes held at Zawiyah English Club than regular classes in lectures. Then, all of the students stated that they believe they can improve their speaking ability because Zawiyah English Club could increase their awareness and confidence in speaking.

The aims of this study were to investigate the difficulties encountered by the EFL students at English Department of IAIN Langsa, as well as the strategies they utilised in translating Indonesian text into English. This research employed a qualitative approach with the technique applied purposive sampling. The researcher had ten sixth-semester students of English Education majors at IAIN Langsa as the subjects. Documentation and interview were employed as the instruments to collect data. Based on the outcomes of the two data, demonstrated that all of the students experienced difficulties in translating the text. The difficulties they encountered were related to: 1) Vocabularies particularly regarding religious terms, 2) Grammar, (3) Equivalence, and (4) problematic assorting the long sentence. They revealed that the lack of knowledge and seldom employing the certain vocabularies like religious terms in daily life that caused them felt difficult in translating the text. Meanwhile, the output of the interview expressed that the students employed three strategies to superintend the translation difficulties, namely : 1) Natural Borrowing Strategy, (2). Adaptation Strategy, and (3). Literal Translation Strategy. The students gained that these strategies were appropriate and simple for them to apply in overcoming difficulties during the translation process.

This study was about students’ anxiety in reading and writing in learning English at the eighth grade of Mts Hadharatul Islamiyah Sipispis. In this research, the researcher used quantitative descriptive method. This study is aimed to find out the students’ anxiety level in reading and writing in learning English. The data was collected by using questionnaire with two aspects includes reading and writing. In this study, the researcher found that the students’ anxiety in reading are categorized in low anxiety level there are 6 students (22%), students who categorized in medium anxiety there are 10 students (37%), and the high anxiety level are 11 students (41%). While in writing anxiety in this study shows that the students categorized in low anxiety level are 4 students (15%), in medium anxiety category are 13% students (48%), and the high anxiety category are 10 students (37%). It can be concluded the students’ anxiety level in reading English at the eighth grade of MTs Hadharatul Islamiyah Sipispis is categorized in the high anxiety level. Whereas students’ level anxiety in writing in categorized medium anxiety level.

This research was conducted to discover the student's interest in learning vocabulary and focused on investigating student's perspectives on the implementation of the game in learning vocabulary. This research contain one research question namely how are the student's responses toward the use of Word Wizard game in learning vocabulary. The research employed a qualitative narrative to investigate a student's responses in learning English vocabulary using Word Wizard game. The participants of this research were thirteen students of grade one SMP Terpadu Semayoen Nusantara in Bener Meriah regency. Further, the researcher conducted observation and interview as a research instrument. The interview addressed some questions that were leading the students to be interested in responding the questions related to learning English vocabulary with the Word Wizard game. The interview was then transcribed to analysis this study. Thematic analysis was then used to analyze the student's interest from the script of the interview. The result showed that the students were very excited and interested in learning English vocabulary with Word Wizard game. The game helped students to remember and to find new words in English. The students also assert that learning English vocabulary by using Word Wizard game was much easier and they can be more enthusiastic. This media had a positive impact on students in learning English vocabulary.

This research is carried out to investigate the influencing factors of the Hesitation phenomena in students’ speaking. The participant of this research is five students of seventh semester from English Department of IAIN Langsa in academic Years 2017-2021 who have been selected through purposive sampling based on certain characteristics. This research used qualitative method to gain the data, observation and interview. Based on the results, there are five factors lead the students to hesitate during speaking, which is breathing, pragmatic reason, cognitive process, linguistic planning, and nervousness. Therefore, one of the participants blamed that breathing can be the solution to overcome hesitation in speaking as well as practice and preparation. The researcher has several suggestions for this research. Specifically, first, the students should be aware of the existence of the hesitation phenomena during their speaking. Second, it is necessary to raise the lecturers' awareness since the hesitation phenomenon is an important factor that affects students speaking performance and difficulty. Finally, due to the limitation of this study, further investigation hopes to explore more with a larger population and different groups of students. Therefore, further research about certain approaches or methods to reduce hesitation phenomena in speaking is needed.
