This research aims to identify the representamen or sign, object, and interpretant on Tempo magazine cover of the 16-22 September 2019 edition. Tempo magazine carries political elements, and it is interesting to analyze. The caricature of the Indonesian President is used as the primary discussion to seek the messages that are being delivered. The magazine cover conveys meanings. This study uses qualitative research by using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis. The study focuses on signs which are divided into three categories: representamen, object, and interpretant. The finding shows that the caricature implies that the President of Indonesia betrayed himself and the citizens. His promise to make the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) stronger was only an empty promise. The controversial icon of Pinocchio is associated with the Indonesian president because of the revision of Law No. 30 2002 that weakens KPK.

The Criminal Code that is currently applied in Indonesia is a product of colonialism law which originates from the Dutch Wetboek van Strafrecht voor Nederlands Indie and has been adopted since 1918. In its article 1 paragraph (1) stipulates legality principle; that no action can be punished unless with a pre-existing criminal law provision. However, the Article 5 paragraph (1) of the Law No. 48 of 2009 stipulates that a judge must delve, follow, and understand the living legal norms and values that are felt by the society. These living norms and values are not written and most certainly not enacted unlike the written law. However, they are crucial in upholding community’s sense of justice, and the Law on Judicial Authority has obliged judge to pay great attention to those values. In the Draft, the living laws are accommodated in its article 2 and article 12(2). This study examines the importance to immediately enact the Draft to help realizing judge’s ideal as stipulated in Article 5. The researcher employed a normative juridical method through a statutory approach to study the ratio legis of the laws. Furthermore, the researcher applied qualitative analysis. The result of this study finds out that the Draft accommodates the living law of society better, and therefore the Government shall enact it immediately, with all things considered.

This paper is a contrastive semantic analysis exploring the concept of animal metaphors in Indonesian and English by means of three contrastive elements, i.e., the universality of form and meaning, the universality of meaning albeit different forms, and the element of distinctiveness or idiosyncrasy of each language. All data were obtained from Indonesian Idioms and Expressions, Oxford Dictionary of Idioms, Indonesian Proverbs Dictionary, and Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia. The data were classified and analysed based on the three contrastive elements. Subsequently, each element was scrutinised in terms of the rationality embedded therein. The results of careful analysis show that the universality of the form and meaning of animal metaphors in both languages (i.e., Indonesian and English) reflects the common thread of harmonisation of language expressions—although in some other points, the perception is completely of difference between Indonesian speakers and English ones and hence creates contrasting forms of linguistic expression. The distinctive element of metaphors in each language illustrates that other extra-linguistic elements, e.g., history, values, norms, customs, and to name a few, contribute greatly to the process of constructing language expressions.

This research aims to describe the process of translating the narrative text, i.e., “The Endless Tale”, by using Newmark’s model of translation methods and procedures and to analyze its translation. The translation was analyzed by providing annotation on the equivalence selected. The author employed an empirical-based qualitative method in the form of linguistic constituents (e.g., idioms and culture-related words or terms) through three stages, i.e., compiling, collecting, and analyzing the translation. For annotating or explaining idioms or terms in this narrative text, the author used both offline and online dictionaries to produce the most appropriate translation. The problems encountered in the translation process include matching words and sorting phrases or transferring the meaning of idioms in the text into the target language accurately.

Artificial Intelligence-based universal language translation system allows users in the Metaverse to better communicate with each other. Meta points to construct an all-inclusive dialect interpretation framework to permit clients to relate to others within the Metaverse without stressing almost dialect obstructions. Zuckerberg uncovered that Meta is working on building an AI-powered "all-inclusive discourse interpreter" for the Metaverse that will work for everybody within the advanced world. This venture points to streamline clients intelligent who speak distinctive dialects within the computerised universe with the assistance of AI. This paper will consider how virtual realities can affect and affect language learning. On the one hand, virtual realities could benefit people trying to learn second languages by providing virtual experiences that we could share with people who speak other languages. We could learn from other people, and they could learn from us, by "total immersion" in such shared experiences. On the other hand, virtual realities could remove the motivation from many people to learn second languages at all by providing nearly simultaneous. These two views will be argued further.
