This journal was first published in 2020 and is periodically published twice per year in June and December. Since 2020 this journal has been online. Al Muawanah: Journal of Community Service is a communication medium used by researchers, lecturers, teachers, practitioners, and students to convey information or concepts and research results that have been achieved in the field of community service. All articles published by Al Muawanah Journal will have a unique DOI number. In 2022, Al Muawanah Journal will apply for accreditation to the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia to ensure that the authors have chosen the Al Muawanah Journal as a place to publish their community service articles. The focus of this journal is a scientific multidisciplinary journal published by Pusat Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat - Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (LP2M) UIN Raden Intan Lampung. It is in the national level that covers a lot of common problems or issues related to community services. The aim of this journal publication is to disseminate the conceptual thoughts or ideas and research results that have been achieved in the area of community services. The Al Muawanah Journal aimed to gather information or concepts and the results of research that has been achieved in the field of community services. Al Muawanah Journal published the multi-disciplinary scope article, including Field of Community Studies, Technology Innovation for Village Communities, Village Community Development, Policy for Village Communities, Village government governance, and All fields related to Community Service.

Abstract

This community service program was carried out in Harumansari Village, Kadungora District, Garut Regency, which is characterized by the coexistence of three major Islamic organizations: Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Muhammadiyah, and Serikat Islam (SI). Although these organizations differ in religious traditions, preaching methods, and social orientations, the community has shown the ability to maintain harmony. The purpose of this program was to analyze how tolerance is practiced, identify the factors that support and hinder it, and design strategies to strengthen peaceful coexistence. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach, using participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results revealed that tolerance was successfully manifested through mutual respect in worship, social collaboration across organizations, joint participation in religious activities, and inclusive dialogue in village forums. Local cultural values such as silih asih, silih asah, and silih asuh became key instruments in maintaining social harmony. The program concluded that small-scale tensions, in line with Lewis A. Coser’s conflict theory, played a positive role in reinforcing solidarity and adaptive social mechanisms. The success of this program lies in strengthening communication, fostering inclusive leadership, and building a replicable grassroots model of religious tolerance for other communities in Indonesia.

Abstract

Positive parenting supports children’s socioemotional development and autonomy. However, many parents in rural communities still rely on inherited practices and have limited access to evidence-based information and psychosocial support. This community service–based study aimed to strengthen parents’ understanding and practical skills related to positive parenting and maternal mental health through a participatory parenting counseling program in Kampung Cihanjuang, Desa Pangeurenan. The activities included interactive lectures, group discussions (FGD), question–answer sessions, and motivational support involving the KKN 169 team, village officials, and local health cadres. Data were collected through participatory observation, documentation, and discussion notes, complemented by short feedback forms. The program was attended by around 50 mothers and showed high engagement. The findings indicate improved awareness of empathetic communication, consistent rules, and positive reinforcement, as well as a better understanding of the risks of authoritarian and permissive parenting. The activity also initiated peer support among mothers and encouraged community involvement to sustain family empowerment efforts. Overall, participatory parenting counseling is a feasible approach to promote positive parenting practices in rural settings.

Abstract

Pesantren sebagai lembaga pendidikan dan sosial memiliki struktur aktivitas yang semakin kompleks seiring berkembangnya fungsi ekonomi dan kemasyarakatan. Kondisi ini menuntut kemampuan akuntabilitas keuangan yang lebih baik, terutama melalui penerapan Pedoman Akuntansi Pesantren (PAP). Namun di lapangan, banyak pesantren belum menerapkan PAP secara optimal akibat keterbatasan pemahaman dan belum adanya sistem pencatatan yang baku. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan kapasitas pengelola pesantren melalui pelatihan, simulasi kasus, dan pendampingan. Metode kegiatan meliputi asesmen kebutuhan, lokakarya interaktif, penyusunan laporan keuangan berbasis kasus, dan evaluasi berbasis umpan balik. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada kemampuan peserta dalam mengidentifikasi transaksi, menerapkan pencatatan double-entry, memahami akun spesifik pesantren, hingga menyusun laporan keuangan sesuai PAP. Kegiatan ini menjadi model efektif dalam meningkatkan tata kelola keuangan pesantren dan dapat direplikasi untuk wilayah lain.

Abstract

The rapid growth of the digital economy presents significant opportunities for strengthening the economic resilience of rural communities; however, many rural micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) continue to face constraints in digital literacy and technology utilization. This community service program aimed to enhance the digital capacity of MSME actors in Kedaung Village through structured training and intensive mentoring on digital literacy, online marketing, and digital payment systems. The program employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach involving 30 MSME participants and was implemented through stages of needs assessment, training, mentoring, and evaluation. The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in participants’ digital literacy, with average scores increasing from 48% in the pre-test to 82% in the post-test. Furthermore, 67.5% of participants successfully established online marketplace accounts, 87.5% actively utilized social media for product promotion, and 50% adopted QRIS as a digital payment method. These findings indicate that practice-based training combined with continuous mentoring effectively accelerates digital adoption among rural MSMEs. The program contributes to the development of a sustainable digital village model by strengthening MSME competitiveness, expanding market access, and supporting inclusive rural economic growth. Abstract

Environmental cleanliness remains a critical issue in social and educational institutions, influencing not only physical health but also character development, discipline, and social awareness. This article describes the implementation of service-learning in an environmental cleanliness program at the Himatun Ayat Foundation, integrating community service with reflective learning so participants can translate knowledge into concrete action. The program was designed to address key challenges identified at the foundation, including unsystematic waste management, limited cleanliness awareness among some beneficiaries, and the absence of a structured, sustainable cleanliness program. The program combined interactive instruction and field practice, with evaluation conducted through pre- and post-tests using a 10-item multiple-choice questionnaire, participation observation, and a structured reflection session after the activity. Participants consisted of 20 children and adolescents under the foundation’s care. Activities included education, Q&A, and joint cleaning actions in the foundation environment. Findings indicate improved participant understanding and awareness based on comparisons between pre- and post-test results, with the most notable gains in cleanliness awareness and active engagement in waste handling and shared-facility maintenance. Overall, service-learning contributed positively by strengthening participation and fostering social responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy environment within the foundation.
