Abstract

Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) is one of plants consumed by many poeple. This plant can be regenerated using in vitro culture to get identical plants as their mother plants with many seeds in short time by adding NAA and BAP. This research work aimed to investigate the effect of NAA and BAP on growth of Aloe vera’s shoots. This research was conducted from December 2016 to January 2017 at tissue culture laboratory of Aloe Vera Centre Pontianak. The treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design with two factor. The first factor, NAA (0 M , 10-6M , 5×10-6 M , 10-7 M) and the second factor BAP (0 M , 10-6M , 5×10-6 M , 10-7 M) were aplicated. The research finding indicated that the single NAA and BAP treatmnet and their interaction did not give significant effect, however, the treatments descriptively enhanced growth of shoots, leaves, and roots contens. The treatment for of 0 NAA + 10 7 BAP and 10 -7 NAA + 10-7 BAP enhanced 1 shoot, the treatment of 5 × 10-6 NAA + 5 × 10-6 BAP generated 2,33 leaves, and concentrtion 5 × 10-6 NAA + 10-6 BAP generated 2,66 roots.

Abstract

Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) is a group of symptoms experienced by building occupants associated with time spent in buildings that have poor air quality. This research aims to determine the correlation between the factor of the presence of bacteria members of the genus Staphylococcus and indoor physical factors including air temperature, air humidity and light intensity and the occurrences of SBS among library staff of Tanjungpura University. This study used explanatory research method with cross sectional approach conducted from February to July 2017. SBS respondents data were collected using a questionnatres and in depth interviews. In total, 19 respondents were included in this study. The result of analysis of analysis show that there was no correlation between presence of colony of Staphylococcus and most aspects of physical work environment except air humidity p value = 0.003(p value ≤ 0.05) and accurences of SBS at the Library of Tanjungpura University.

Abstract

Peat soil is a land that is widely found on the Borneo Island. Approximately 75% of peat soil consists of soil organic matter, and 75% of soil organic matter consists of humus compounds. The purpose of this research is to know the volume of induction of lambda carrageen which can cause udem and to know the best time of giving humic acid before induction of carrageen. The study used a mice Swiss strain weighing 25-30 grams and 3 months old. The study used Randomized Block Design with treatment of humic acid 30 minutes before induction of carrageen, humic acid administration 60 minutes before induction of carrageen, humic acid administration 90 minutes before induction of carrageen and negative control. The results show that the best 1% lambda carrageen induction volume was 0.15 ml because it can cause udem in the test animal of 39.2 mm3. Best treatment of humic acid is found in the administration of humic acid 30 minutes before induction of carrageen. The highest inhibition of udem occurred in the 180th minute by 30.8%.

Abstract

The cultivation of pakchoy (Brassica chinensis L.) on peat soil is challenged by a low soil fertility. The addition of goat manure compost is expected to increase the growth of pakchoy and the quality of the soil. The aim of the research were to identifying the infleunce of goat manure compost towards the growth of pakchoy (B. chinensis L.) on the peat soil. Additionally, it attempts to study the lowest concentrational of goat manure compost which can provide the best result for the growth of pakchoy (B. chinensis L.) on the peat soil. The research was conducted in a green house and a biology lab oot of the faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Tanjungpura University Pontianak. The analysis of soil, compost, leaf area and lime needs were carried out in an agronomy lab and chemical and soil fertility lab since October 2016 to March 2017. The research employed a completely randomised design (CRD) with a four-lewel treatment, including P0= 0 (control), P1= 62,5 gram, P2= 97,5 gram, and P3= 125 gram. The data in this research was then analysed through ANOVA test (Analysis of Variance). The result of ANOVA test which provides a clear influence was continued by a Duncan test at the level of 5%. The result showed that the provision of goat manure compost provides a clear effect toward all growth parameters. Moreover, the compost concentration on 62.5 gram is the lowest concentration which can provide the best result towards the plant height by 19.13 cm, number of leaves by 8.67 cm, total leaf area by 291.5 cm2, gross weight by 17.71 gram and dry weight by 1.22 gram.

Abstract

Peniti Mangrove is one of the forests in West Kalimantan which has a high forest productivity rate. This highly supports the existence of cellulolytic bacteria, a cellulase-producing microorganism which can degrade cellulose into glucose. This research aims to measure the total density of bacteria, cellulose degradation power and the genera members of cellulolitic bacteria on Mangrove soils in Peniti, Mempawah. The soil samples were obtained through composite samplings, by setting 20 spots in four different locations: A,B,C dan D. Bacterial isolation was conducted using dilution technique and pour plate method on carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) agar medium. The count of the density was done through total plate count (TPC) method. The degrading power was counted using cellulolytic index value. From the cellulose degrading test, 9 isolates of cellulolytic bacteria from 16 isolates were obtained. Cellulolytic bacteria isolates were characterised by colony morphology, cell morphology and biochemical tests. Through the identification process, 7 genera were identified: Aeromonas, Bacillus, Alcaligenes, Pseudomonas, Actinobacillus, Listeria and Chromobacterium.
