Abstract

Germplasm conservation area (GCA) refers to an area managed by PT. Muara Sungai Landak. This area is a peat swamp forest and a former location of deforestation. In addition, it has a wide variety of plants, for example Nepenthes. This research aims to determine the types and diversity of Nepenthes in the germplasm conservation area (GCA) of PT. Muara Sungai Landak, in Siantan sub district, Mempawah region, West Kalimantan. The research was conducted since September to December 2016. The research site was determined based on its environment colour. Data in this research was collected through systematic sampling technique. The findings showed that there were 3 types of Nepenthes in the germplasm conservation area, i.e. Nepenthes ampullaria, Nepenthes bicalcarata and Nepenthes rafflesiana. The diversity of Nepenthes spp. in this area was considered low. Dominance index shows that C (0,9363 - 0,9642) < 1, diversity index shows that H’ (0,3767 - 0,6467) < 1, and evenness index shows that E (0,5435 – 0,5886) < 1.

Abstract

Food plants is a human need to be met at all times. The pattern of utilization of plants in a society is closely related with their culture. Therefore, the culture of a region will determine the type of foods, the plant parts used, and  the way food is proceesed. The utilization of plants is important for the Dayak Kanayant  tribe especially in fulfilling food needs. The study is carried out for 3 months from June to August 2020.  The study aims to identify  the kinds of  food plants, and their use by Dayak Kanayant in Babane Village.  using the snowball method. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results obtained  were 49 species of food plants,  from 31 families, and the most widely used families were moracaceae and aracaceae, 5 species in each of these families with a percentage of  10.20%. The  widely used  portion of the crop are  fruits with a percentage of  38.09%, while the location of food plants is found more in the forest with a percentage of 41.38%. the way to use it is generally consumed directly and some are processed by sauteed, boiled, burned, and fried. The methods of treating vegetation are boiled, dried in the sun, buried in the ground, added salt and sugar.

Abstract

Carbon stock is carbon content strored either on the ground surface serving as plant biomass or in the ground functioning as soil organic matter. One of the area which can potentially absorb a large amount of carbon is traditional rubber agroforestry. This research aims at identifying biomass an carbon stock stored in the research site. The research was conducted for three mounths, starting from March to July 2017 in Nanga Pemubuh village. The identification of plant types was carried out in the biology lab of Mathematic and Natural Science Faculty, Tanjungpura University. To measure biomass and carbon stock, the research employed a transect method on tree stands with diameters more than 25 cm. Results revealed that the rate of density obtained in this research was about 6.5-46 trees/ha. After that, the biomass gathered was about 42.79 - 222.43 ton/ha and the stock ranged around 21.39 - 111.22 ton/ha.

Abstract

Ficus is key species that commonly lives in tropical region because of its ability to bear fruit year around, thus so many kind of Ficus that become source of food and habitat to animals. The aim of the research to determine the density and distribution pattern of Ficus spp. at Research Station of Gunung Palung National Park in May until June 2018. The observation of Ficus spp. is done by random sampling method on five different locations, there are lowland granite, warmth, sands stone, freshwater swamp and alluvial land. The result showed that there are 4 species of Ficus with density ranges 16-60 individuals/ha and the distributions patterns are uniform and grouped.

Abstract

Quality degradation, modification, and habitat loss are significant threats to bird species. The natural habitat of birds has been modified into residential land and facilities to meet the needs of human life as happened at Tanjungpura University. This study aims to determine of birds species at Tanjungpura University. Observations were carried out from January to March 2019. The method used in collecting the data from bird was “Encounter rates” which was conducted in the morning starting at 6 – 9 am and at 3 - 6 pm. The data obtained were analyzed with the formula of simple abundance scale and frequency of attendance. The birds found at Universitas Tanjungpura are 28 species classified into 23 genera, 17 families, and seven orders. Birds found to have an abundance order scale are classified into abundant, general, frequent and, unusual categories. Birds included in the abundant category are Collocalia fuciphaga and Passer montanus. The types of bird foods at Tanjungpura University consist of frugivore, insectivore, granivore, herbivore, carnivore, piscivore, omnivore, molluscivore, and nectarivore. The value of attendance frequency have range between 10-100%. The bird species with highest frequency of attendance’s value is Passer montanus, Pycnonotus aurigaster, Pycnonotus goiavier, Collocalia fuciphaga, and Anthreptes malacensis.

Abstract

Peniti Mangrove Forest is one of the forests in West Kalimantan that has high forest productivity, thus supporting the presence of nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Nitrogen fixing bacteria is one of the nitrogen-fixing microorganisms that can bind the free nitrogen needed for the nitrogen cycle process. This study aimed to determine the types of nitrogen-fixing bacteria that can be found in the soil of Peniti mangrove forest, Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan. Taking soil samples used a purposive sampling method. Bacterial isolation used dilution techniques and pour plate method on the Nitrogen Free Bromthymol Blue (NFB) media. The nitrogen fixing was obtained by 3 isolates of nitrogen fixing bacteria. After identification, 3 genera were obtained, namely members of the genera Azotobacter, Azospirillum, and Pseudomonas.
