About the Journal PHARMACOLOGY, MEDICAL REPORTS, ORTHOPEDIC, AND ILLNESS DETAILS (COMORBID) is an international, modern, general medical publication that publishes research on all aspects of medicine, from fundamental research to significant clinical trials and cost-effectiveness analyses. We generally publish human research that contribute to our understanding of medical epidemiology, etiology, and physiology; the development of prognostic and diagnostic technologies; clinical trials that evaluate the efficacy of particular therapies and comparative trials; and systematic reviews. We want to encourage the conversion of fundamental research into clinical trials and clinical evidence into therapeutic practice. When studies in animal models produce remarkable research findings that are extremely clinically relevant, we publish them on occasion. The international medical community, as well as educators, policymakers, patient advocacy groups, and other interested parties, are among our target audiences. The online edition of COMORBID is updated on a regular basis. Medical Informatics, Basic Science, Clinical Science, Case Report, Brief Communication, Public Health, Public Policy, and Review Articles from all branches of medicine and associated subjects are published in PHARMACOLOGY, MEDICAL REPORTS, ORTHOPEDIC, AND ILLNESS DETAILS (COMORBID)

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels and often accompanied by complications. Complications that occur in diabetes mellitus patients include blurred vision, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, kidney damage, frequent loss of pain sensation, potential gangrene formation, and amputation to prevent the spread of gangrene to other tissues. The management of diabetes mellitus can be done pharmacologically through the administration of anti-diabetes medications, insulin injections, and non-pharmacological approaches such as cinnamon tea infusion. The research objective is to determine the effect of cinnamon tea infusion on reducing blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus patients in the Kuta Baro Primary Health Center, Aceh Besar District in 2023. This research used a quasi-experimental design with a sample size of 20 diabetes mellitus patients, selected through purposive sampling. The study was conducted from December 28, 2022, to January 5, 2023, and data analysis included univariate and bivariate analysis. The results showed that before the administration of cinnamon tea infusion, the average blood sugar level was 255.80, while after the administration of cinnamon tea infusion, the average level was 193.05, with an average decrease in blood sugar levels of 41.33. This indicates a significant difference in blood sugar levels before and after the administration of cinnamon tea infusion with a p-value of 0.001, suggesting that cinnamon tea infusion has an effect on blood sugar levels. It is expected that healthcare professionals will improve healthcare services and promote the use of cinnamon tea infusion among the community, especially diabetes mellitus patients.

Abstract

Neurological complications occur in almost 60% of patients with advanced CKD and affect the nervous system at all levels, both central and peripheral. Peripheral neuropathy in CKD is usually asymptomatic until renal function is below 15%, and glomerular filtration is less than 10-12 ml/min. This study seeks to identify and characterize peripheral neuropathy in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study with the research sample comprising chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis at Dr. Mohommad Hoesin Palembang Hospital. The distribution of research subjects based on the Neuropathy Symptom Score (NSS) revealed that 65.7% fell into the mild neuropathy category, based on an NSS of 3-4. According to the electrophysiology results, 82.9% of patients exhibited peripheral neuropathy, while 17.1% showed normal NCS results. Sensory motor neuropathy accounted for 51.4%, including 71.5% with axonal neuropathy, 11.4% with axonal-demyelinating lesions, and no demyelinating lesions. The high prevalence of peripheral neuropathy in CKD patients identified through electrophysiological examination (ENMG) emphasizes the importance of nerve conduction examination as a diagnostic tool for peripheral neuropathy in CKD patients. This can aid in determining the progression of peripheral neuropathy in CKD patients, allowing for appropriate management and prevention of disability complications to enhance the quality of life for these individuals.

Abstract

Stunting is a nutritional problem facing Indonesia, especially Aceh. This is important because it concerns the quality of Aceh's human resources in the future. Efforts to prevent and reduce stunting cannot be done only by the health sector, but by involving cross-sectors and of course from within the family itself.  One of the health problems facing the community, especially the poor, is nutritional problems that can cause stunting in children. Children who come from poor families are certainly at great risk of stunting, because they have the potential to experience long-term malnutrition. One of the government programs that has been implemented in order to reduce the problem of stunting is the Family Hope Program (PKH).   This study aims to determine how the effectiveness of the Family Hope Program on stunting in children aged 24-36 months in Kuta Baro District, Aceh Besar Regency. This research uses qualitative research methods with a descriptive analysis approach.   Data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of PKH in preventing stunting includes preventive efforts including encouraging changes in KPM behavior through agreed commitments, with the assistance funds provided by PKH can help KPM in fulfilling nutrition for family members. The technical implementation of PKH in Kuta Baro District is in accordance with government regulations in efforts to eradicate poverty and prevent stunting. The amount of PKH assistance funds is based on the criteria met by the Beneficiary Family (KPM).

Abstract

Gold mining in Aceh Jaya, specifically in Gunong Ujeun, results in the discharge of waste water containing heavy metals into nearby rivers. This can negatively impact the environment, particularly through contamination by lead and mercury. These heavy metals can be toxic to aquatic life, potentially disrupting the food chain. Kijing clams, a type of shellfish commonly found in freshwater rivers, are particularly susceptible to metal accumulation due to their filter feeding behavior. This research aims to assess the impact of lead and mercury levels in the Krueng Sabe river on the accumulation of these metals in shellfish, exceeding the threshold set for the river in Aceh Jaya Regency. The study will use Atomic Absorption spectroscopy (AAS) to measure the heavy metal content. The results show that the lead content in shellfish meat is 0.191 mg/kg, while the mercury content is 0.255 mg/kg. These levels are below the maximum limits set for heavy metals in food.
