Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health challenge in Indonesia despite declining prevalence, with disparities in maternal knowledge and preventive practices persisting in outermost, frontier, and least-developed (3T) regions. To compare stunting-prevention knowledge and practices among pregnant women in the 3T outermost islands and a non-3T urban area of the Riau Islands Province, and identify factors associated with adequate knowledge. A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted among 420 pregnant women using multistage cluster sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire and analyzed with chi-square tests and multivariable logistic regression. Women in the 3T islands had lower adequate knowledge (37.6% vs. 63.8%), attendance of 6 ANC contacts (40.5% vs. 77.6%), adherence to 90 iron–folic acid tablets (33.8% vs. 60.5%), and adequate dietary diversity (30.0% vs. 54.8%) (all p < 0.001). Residence in the 3T region (aOR 0.42), tertiary education (aOR 2.98), distance > 5 km to a health facility (aOR 0.55), and nutrition counselling (aOR 2.41) were independently associated with adequate knowledge. Geographic disparities persist, high lighting the need for targeted maternal education, nutrition counselling, and improved access to maternal health services in 3T settings.

Abstract

Breastfeeding self-efficacy is a key determinant of successful exclusive breastfeeding and contributes to improved maternal and infant health outcomes. However, many postpartum mothers experience psychological and educational barriers that reduce confidence in breastfeeding, highlighting the need for effective supportive interventions. To evaluate the effectiveness of a combined Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) and structured lactation education program on breastfeeding self-efficacy among postpartum mothers. A quasi-experimental pretest posttest control-group study was conducted involving 56 postpartum mothers recruited through purposive sampling and non-randomly allocated to an intervention group (n = 28) or a control group (n = 28). The intervention group received a combination of SEFT and structured lactation education, whereas the control group received standard postpartum care. Data were analyzed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), controlling for baseline self-efficacy scores. Following the intervention, breastfeeding self-efficacy was significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (p < 0.001), with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 2.35). This association remained significant after adjustment for baseline self-efficacy, age, parity, education, and spousal support. The combination of SEFT and structured lactation education was associated with improved breastfeeding self-efficacy among postpartum mothers. As a low-cost psychosocial and educational intervention, this approach may strengthen maternal confidence in breastfeeding and support efforts to improve exclusive breastfeeding practices.

Abstract

Patient understanding of physiotherapy service flow is essential for adherence and outcomes. This study analyzes factors associated with patients' understanding based on Minister of Health Regulation No. 65/2015 at BLU Timikan Hospital. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 158 outpatients selected by consecutive sampling at BLU Timikan Hospital from January to March 2025. Data were collected using observation sheets, a validated questionnaire (Cronbach's alpha = 0.87), and medical records. Bivariate analysis employed chi-square tests, and multivariate analysis used logistic regression to calculate adjusted odds ratios (AOR) with 95\% confidence intervals (CI), controlling for age and education. Complete implementation was lowest for periodic evaluation (41.8%) and discharge planning (36.7%). Overall, 45.8% of patients demonstrated good understanding, with the poorest comprehension observed for informed consent (27.8%) and follow-up plans (25.3%). Bivariate analysis showed that incomplete flow implementation (chi^2 = 7.34, p = 0.007, phi = 0.215), verbal-only education (chi^2 = 10.82, p = 0.001, phi = 0.262), and lack of family support (chi^2 = 8.71, p = 0.003, phi = 0.235) were significantly associated with poor understanding, whereas waiting time was not (p = 0.218). After controlling for age and education, incomplete flow implementation (AOR = 2.84; 95% CI: 1.42-5.68; p = 0.003) and verbal-only education (AOR = 2.93; 95% CI: 1.44-5.96; p = 0.003) remained independently associated with poor understanding. The model demonstrated adequate fit (Hosmer Lemeshow p = 0.612).

Abstract

Chronic disease care requires stable medicine availability and efficient pharmaceutical spending. This scoping review mapped empirical evidence on the use of ABC-VEN/VED analysis for chronic disease medicine inventory optimization in health facilities. PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Google Scholar were searched in July 2026 for full-text empirical studies published from 1 January 2021 to 30 June 2026. Screening followed PRISMA-ScR. After duplicate removal, 672 records were screened and 232 studies were included. The evidence showed that a small proportion of high-value and clinically important medicines accounted for most pharmaceutical expenditure. ABC-VEN/VED was used to support medicine planning, procurement prioritization, stock monitoring, stock-out reduction, overstock control, and waste prevention. Integrating ABC-VEN/VED into routine inventory policy may support rational pharmaceutical budgeting, improve medicine availability, and strengthen continuity of chronic disease treatment.

Abstract

Child stunting remains one of the most serious public health challenges worldwide, including in Indonesia. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a Family-Based Nursing (FBN)-based educational programme in improving family health literacy and family management for childhood stunting prevention. A quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test control group study was conducted among 80 families with children aged 0–24 months recruited from two Primary Healthcare Centers in Batam City, Indonesia. The intervention group received a four-week FBN-based educational programme, while the control group received routine health education. The FBN program is more effective at improving health literacy than conventional education, particularly in terms of families’ ability to apply health information to support nutrition, growth monitoring, and stunting prevention, and effective at strengthening families’ ability to manage, coordinate, and implement child health practices related to stunting prevention. The FBN-based educational programme effectively strengthened family stunting prevention behaviours and enhanced families' capacity to support optimal child growth.
