Abstract

In 2012 a studi was conducted on the potential of Nyamplung in Ketapang and North Kayong Regencies, which stated that there were 219 trees of nyamplung potential in the coastal area of Tambak Rawang, North Kayong Regency. The next problem is how the nyamplung plant distribution conditions after seven years latter, whether there is a decrease or increase in population of nyamplung at Tambak Rawang coastal area, Sukadana District, Kayong Utara Regency. The purpose of this study is to examine the potential of nyamplung (Calophyllum inophyllum) in the coastal area of Tambak Rawang, Sukadana District, Kayong Utara Regency. This research was conducted at Tambak Rawang beach, Sukadana District, Kayong Utara Regency, West Kalimantan Province for approximately ± 1 month. Data collection techniques are carried out by the census of all nyamplung (C. inophyllum) trees found at the coastal area. Observations for seedling level were conducted by making 2 x 2 m plots placed by purposive sampling or deliberately at locations where there were many nyamplung seedlings at the observation site. Observation results show that there were 238 nyamplung trees found at the Tambak Rawang coastal area. The average number of primary, secondary and tertiary branches in the nyamplung tree are ± 5.18, ± 36.29 and ± 424.29 branches, respectively. Production of the weight of fruit in each tree is  ± 5.827 tons per fruit season. The number of nyamplung tree seedlings was found 6771 seedlings around the bottom of the nyamplung tree.Keyword : Coastal area, Kayong Utara, nyamplung (Callophyllum inophyllum), potency

Abstract

Proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) is an endemic animal of Borneo including protected primate species as an endangered species status. This species listed as an endangered species caused by large population decline and habitat demage continues to threaten the proboscis population. This research was conducted in Taman Wisata Alam Tanjung Belimbing (TWATB) is a nature conservation area that supports the conservation of proboscis monkey. The purpose of this research is to collect the amount of proboscis monkey populations, so as to provide an overview of conservation efforts that must be carried out. The method was used the River Survey method. The result of Proboscis research based on the age level was found consisted average of 5 adult male individuals, 6 adult female individuals, 7 adolescent individuals and 5 childs. Estimation of the population is calculated using the King’s Method. Estimated individuals population is 12 individuals with a density of 25.5 individuals/km2.Keywords: Proboscis monkey, Population, Tanjung Belimbing, Paloh.

Abstract

Research on the induction of the sapwood of agarwood has been extensively studied, but this has not yet resulted in the dept standard of hole of inoculation and the diameter of trees in order to produce the best sapwood. Therefore, this study aimed to study the depth of the effective inoculation hole to accelerate the formation of agarwood cambium or sapwood in various tree diameters, and to know the interaction of agarwood induction. This research was conducted in Sekadau Hilir district. The design of this research was a nested method. The treatment consisted of tree diameter (i.e., 11.46 cm, 16.56 cm, and 24.20 cm) as the main factor, while the depth of the inoculation hole (i.e., 1 cm, 2 cm, 3 cm, 4 cm, and 5 cm) was the second nesting factor. The hole spacing was 15 cm, which was in each treatment, the depth of the inoculation hole was repeated 5 times. The number of holes consisted of 75. In which the depth of inoculation hole was 3 cm producing an infection on area of 485.13 cm2, brown, and with strong aroma. Tree diameter of 11.46 cm produced 872.92 cm2 of infected area, blackish brown, and with strong aroma. However, the interaction of tree diameter and the dept of hole was not significant toward the area of agarwood infection formed.Keyword: Agarwood, Aquilaria malaccensis, inoculation

Abstract

Ulin (Eusideroxylon zwageri) is a species of wood with high economic value that is difficult to find in the wild. Regeneration of E. zwageri is naturally very slow. Efforts to increase the procurement of E. zwageri seedlings can be done with a tissue culture technique. Through tissue culture, the seeds obtained will be uniform, have better quality and faster. This study aims to determine the effect and optimum concentration of IAA and BAP growth regulators on E. zwageri explants growth. The method used is experimental using a completely randomized design. Treatment factors are IAA concentration factor with 5 levels of treatment (0 mg/L, 0.5 mg/L, 1 mg/L, 1.5 mg/L, and 2 mg/L) and BAP concentration of 5 treatment levels (0 mg/L, 1 mg/L, 2 mg/L, 3 mg/L, and 4 mg/L). Each treatment was repeated 3 times. The results showed that the treatment of IAA concentration, BAP concentration and the interaction of IAA and BAP concentration affected the swelling of explants and growth of E. zwageri callus. The best concentration for callus explants was IAA of 2 mg/L and BAP of 0 mg/L, with a time of 12-13 weeks after planting. Keywords: BAP, E. zwageri, IAA, Tissue Culture
