Abstract

This article aims at mapping the meaning configuration  of Balinese verb belonging to the concept of cooking. The data was taken from spoken Balinese and collected by direct observation and participation combined with note-taking. The collected data was analyzed by applying the theory of Natural Semantic Metalanguage. The result showed that there are a number f lexicons showing such a promising concept: ngangetin, ngoréng/ngenyahnyah, nguling, nyakan: (nguskus, nepeng), ngelablab/nadah nunu, manggang, nambus, nimbung. It turns out that the slight difference between nunu and manggang can be explicated. The other findings showed that – through NSM – the subtypes of nyakan can be mapped into ngu(s)kus and nepeng, and the variants of ngoréng is ngenya(h)nyah, and ngela(b)lab is nada.

Abstract

In this modern era advertising is an integral part of everyday life. Almost every need of our lives marketed with these ads. Efforts were made for an interesting ad. This study aims to determine whether the ad utilizes local elements that created an interesting ad. Then be studied also the type or kind of local elements are used in the creation of ads. Therefore, this research uses descriptive analysis method by observation techniques in the field data collection. Data collected either through direct observation in the field and through the television media. The result showed that many ads that take advantages of local elements in making its ads. Local elements in the form of accent or dialect and can also be the local language.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know about Islamic aesthetics described in Banjarese folktale, Nisan Berlumur Darah (Blood Covered Tombstone). The researcher chooses Islamic aesthetics in literary works, especially in Banjarese folktales as the topic of the study with consideration that there is still a little number of studies in this subject. Islamic aesthetics which are analyzed in this Banjarese folktale, Nisan Berlumur Darah (Blood Covered Tombstone), cannot be separated from the analysis of intrinsic element in literary work, those are characters and characterizations and mandate of the story as well. The research uses descriptive qualitative method. By analyzing the characters and characterizations and mandate of the story, one is able to know about Islamic aesthetic values in the story. The Islamic aesthetics are the height of knowledge and morals of the characters. Mandate in the story also be able to bear enlightening for the readers.

Abstract

This study focused on the local tradition in lamentation song “munaba” from Waropen ethnic, Papua. Munaba was selected due to its familiar and grounded in local communities in the area. Research approach is based on text and context. The approach focused on literary works and based on some aspects such as literature anthropology. The study used descriptive qualitative method which uncovered facts, phenomenon and variable. The study as well interpreted data related to given situation, the view points of society, conflicts, the difference between facts, and the influence of particular problem which was studied and investigated. The data was obtained from oral literature which was shared by the native speakers. In addition, the research also applied observation. Data source is munaba in Waropen language. The original data has been transliterated from a number of informants then it is translated into Indonesian language. Based on semiotic and hermeneutic theory, and also literature anthropology analysis, the study found some local tradition in munaba such as language, location, living system, social organization system, and tribal religion system of Waropen tribe in the lamentation song munaba.

Abstract

The accoustic feature of an utterance is particularly influenced by its contexts and gender of the speaker.  One tends to speak in low intensity, low pitch, long duration and flat tone even low, when they were sad. On the contrary, when one gets angry, s/he will speak in high intensity and pitch as well as her/his tone. Then, its duration is probably sharp. utterance character of male is highly diferent with female one due to their physiology form of speech organ. This study will evident that assumption by comparing between male and female of the utterance of masak sih using acoustic phonetics theory. The result shows that male would rather give low frequency for this utterance than female did. The duration of this utterance is, however, relatively similar between male and female.

Abstract

The folktale of Kasuari dan Burung Pipit is well-known in Sentani, Papua. As a  valuable  literature  for  Sentani people,  it  is  necessary  to  study  and  analyze  the message  of  the  folktale.  This is a qualitative research applying the descriptive method. The analysis uses a message transaction modus based on the theory of the semiotics of Roland Bhartes. The data of this research is the story of Kasuari dan Burung Pipit. The data was submitted by observation (through recordings and note-taking) and interviews. The result shows, based on the analysis, that the message transaction modus of the story includes 1)  the  proairetic  code;  2)  the heurmeuneutic code; 3) the code of semes or signifiers; 4) the symbolic code; and 5) the culture code.

Abstract

This research aims to know genetic relationship of languages in north area of Jayapura regency, Papua province. Comparative historical theory with quantitative method are used to analyze the languages relationship. The result of analysis shows that eight languages in north area of Jayapura regency do not belong to the same language group. Tevera Pew (Te), Tabla (Ta), Yokari (Yo), and Sentani (St) languages form their own language group as 40,45% cognate words similarity with the name of Tevera Pew-Tabla-Yokari-Sentani. Languages of Tevera Pew-Tabla-Yokari-Sentani derived from Tevera Pew-Tabla-Yokari-Sentani proto. This proto then split to four languages as we found right now. Demta language (De) proven to be out part Tevera Pew-Tabla-Yokari-Sentani language family. Mooi (Mo) and Gresi (Gr) create their own language family with 52,26% similarity of cognate words. Meanwhile, Ormu (Or) and Tarpia (Ta) languages are not belong to any language stock. Ormu (Or) and Tarpia (Ta) only have 9, 28% similarity cognate words. That’s why they do not belong to one language stock.

Abstract

This paper is qualitative that objectively describing about character education in Papua oral tradition. The methods used informal by verbal arranged systematically. The source of the data was the munaba tradition in Waropen tribe, Tobati folktale and Teminabuan folktale. The data were collected through documentation technique and analyzed descriptively.Generally, this paper aims to publishing and to conserving Papua oral tradition. Spesifically is to deciperated of Papua oral tradition education value that can vavor of the government program to the local society character education. The benefit are in order to change the behavior and mindset that incompatible leads to the character development that is suitable with the nation civilitation.
