Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a common issue experienced by women before and during menstruation, including adolescent girls.Non-pharmacological treatments can be done, one of which is effleurage massage using lavender aromatherapy oil. This study aims to determine the changes in the decrease of dysmenorrhea intensity between effleurage massage and effleurage massage using lavender aromatherapy oil. This study is a non-paired comparative type of research with a two-group pretest-posttest design approach. The population consisted of 44 respondents with a sample size of 39 respondents. Group 1 received effleurage massage and Group 2 received effleurage massage using lavender aromatherapy oil. Data was collected using the NRS questionnaire, and both groups' data were tested using paired t-tests and then retested using an independent t-test to compare between the groups. The statistical tests for Group 1 produced ?1??2 and ?-value ,000 < 0.05, indicating the rejection of the null hypothesis. The same result was found for Group 2, with ?1??2 and ?-value ,000 < 0.05. The difference in the change of dysmenorrhea intensity between the two groups also yielded ?1??2 and ?-value ,000 < 0.05, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis. There is a difference in the reduction of intensity between effleurage massage and effleurage massage using lavender aromatherapy oil. Effleurage massage using lavender aromatherapy oil showed a significant decrease in dysmenorrhea intensity. This is because effleurage massage not only distracts pain but lavender aromatherapy also produces endorphins, thus modifying pain perception in the brain. Therefore, it can be an alternative choice in reducing dysmenorrhea intensity.

Abstract

Practical simulations are important for midwifery vocational students to carry out before entering the real practice. The availability of adequate teaching aids will support the achievement of learning objectives. A practical demonstration tool for installing an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) was developed in this research using the principles of low technology and high fidelity. The aim of this research is to measure the practicality and effectiveness of the teaching aids developed. This study is research and development using the ADDIE (Assessment, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) model. The research was conducted in July-September 2020 at the Denpasar Ministry of Health Polytechnic, Midwifery Department. The population of this study were Bachelor and Diploma of Midwifery students. The sample size was 30 respondent for each treatment and control group using proportional random sampling techniques. Practicality measurement uses a questionnaire, while effectiveness uses an observation sheet. The research results showed that the practicality score on the 5 aspects measured showed a score of > 3.40, which shows that this teaching aid is practical to use in practice. The Mann Whitney difference test was used to test the skill observation scores in the treatment and control groups, and obtained p-value = 0.240 (>0.05). This shows that the mean skill scores in the treatment and control groups are not significantly. The teaching aids developed are practical and effective for use in IUD installation practice. There is a need to develop other teaching aids to improve students' skills.

Abstract

Preschool children have a very fast growth and development phase. One of the factors that influences children's development is playing with gadgets. In modern times like today, playing with gadgets has become routine. The 2020 Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association survey showed that 73.7% of smartphone users in Indonesia were preschool children. Based on the results of a preliminary study of 5 mothers who have preschool children, it was found that the children used gadgets for >1 hour every day and were already clever at operating gadgets. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the use of gadgets and the development of preschool children aged 5-6 years. The research design used is correlation with a cross-sectional approach. Respondents were 33 children aged 5-6 years at Dharma Wanita I Tempurejo Kindergarten using purposive sampling technique. Data analysis used the Spearman rank test. The results of the research show that the majority of gadget use is in the moderate category (>40-60 minutes/day) as much as 39.4%, most of the development of preschool children aged 5-6 years is in the normal category as much as 81.8%, and the results of the p-value analysis value= 0.001<0.05 which means there is a relationship between gadget use and the development of preschool children aged 5-6 years with a correlation coefficient value of -0.568 indicating there is a negative relationship which means that the higher the intensity of gadget use, the development of preschool children will decrease. The use of gadgets in preschool children does not always have a bad impact. Parents need to accompany children in playing with gadgets. Parents must set time limits and choose applications to provide stimulation to children that is appropriate for their age.
