Abstract

Unmet need is a condition where women of reproductive age (WUS) are sexually active but do not use contraception. In 2024, Terung Village recorded an unmet need rate of 11.31%. This condition poses a risk to population control efforts. One contributing factor is the level of husband support. This study aims to analyze the relationship between husband support and unmet need incidence in WUS in Terung Village. The research used an observational, cross-sectional design with 163 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Husband support served as the independent variable, while unmet need was the dependent variable. Data were collected using questionnaires and open interviews, and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results showed that 30.1% of WUS experienced unmet need, primarily among women over 35 years old, with elementary education, as housewives, having more than one child, and middle-income status. WUS without husband support had a higher unmet need rate (45.2%) compared to those with full support (10%). The Chi-Square analysis indicated a significant relationship between husband support and unmet need (p = 0.000; α = 0.05). The novelty of this study lies in the considerable disparity in unmet need based on the presence or absence of husband support. Findings emphasize the importance of involving men in family planning decisions, suggesting the need for community-based education to enhance husband participation in contraceptive use.

Abstract

Pregnancy gingivitis remains a prevalent oral health problem among pregnant women, largely driven by hormonal changes and inadequate awareness of proper oral hygiene practices. Despite its high prevalence and potential complications, including heightened risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes, educational resources tailored to improving oral health knowledge during pregnancy are still limited and often ineffective. This study addresses this gap by examining the impact of the Android-based Mom Smile application as an accessible digital learning tool for enhancing pregnant women’s knowledge of pregnancy gingivitis. This research employed a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design involving 32 pregnant women attending the Gayam Health Center in Sumenep Regency. Participants completed a validated knowledge questionnaire assessing their understanding of pregnancy gingivitis including its definition, symptoms, causes, impacts, and prevention before and after engaging with the Mom Smile application. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test due to non-normal distribution. The findings demonstrated a substantial improvement in knowledge following the intervention. The mean knowledge score increased from 54.68% in the pretest to 83.28% in the posttest. Prior to the intervention, 62% of participants exhibited low knowledge levels, whereas after using the application, 88% achieved high knowledge levels. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.05), indicating the effectiveness of the Mom Smile application. In conclusion, the Mom Smile application proved to be an effective digital educational tool for enhancing pregnant women’s knowledge about pregnancy gingivitis. Its motion-graphic–based content offers an engaging and practical alternative to traditional printed materials. Integrating such digital health education into antenatal care services may support better oral hygiene practices, thereby contributing to improved maternal health outcomes.

Abstract

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is a common health problem experienced by adolescent girls, characterized by physical, emotional, and psychological symptoms related to the menstrual cycle. Waist-to-Hip Circumference Ratio (RLPP), which is a comparison between waist circumference and pelvis, is thought to play a predictive role in the incidence of STDs. This study uses an observational analytical design with a cross sectional approach. A simple random sampling sample was taken from 140 respondents. RLPP is measured directly, while PMS is assessed using the Shortened Premenstrual Assessment Form (SPAF) questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out by Chi-Square test. Most of the respondents with normal RLPP experienced mild PMS (65 female students), while the majority of respondents with high RLPP experienced moderate PMS (25 female students). The results of the statistical test showed a value of p = 0.000, indicating a significant relationship between RLPP and PMS. There is a meaningful association between RLPP and the incidence of PMS. RLPP above normal limits not only reflects the risk of metabolic syndrome, but is also associated with reproductive and emotional health disorders in adolescents. Promotive interventions such as increased physical activity, healthy diets, and monitoring of nutritional status are important to be implemented in educational and family settings.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic condition that affects various aspects of health, including dental and oral health. Diabetes and periodontitis are the most prevalent human diseases. Diabetes worsens the periodontal condition, but periodontitis also hampers glycemic control in diabetic patients. The study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge of oral health maintenance and the incidence of periodontitis among elderly patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) at the Tanah Kalikedinding Health Center, Surabaya. The cross-sectional study involved 46 elderly participants diagnosed with T2DM. Data were collected using a dental and oral health maintenance knowledge questionnaire and the Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN). The majority of respondents were women (73.9%) aged 60-70 years (91.3%), with most having only a junior high school education (47.8%). Knowledge levels were generally low, with 54.35% of respondents classified as having poor knowledge. Most respondents (80.4%) had severe periodontitis, as indicated by CPITN scores. The Pearson correlation test revealed no significant relationship between knowledge levels and CPITN scores (r = -0.134, p = 0.374), suggesting that knowledge about dental and oral health maintenance does not significantly influence the incidence of periodontitis in this sample. The findings highlight the need for comprehensive interventions to improve dental and oral health among elderly T2DM patients, focusing not only on increasing knowledge but also improving access to dental care and promoting healthy lifestyle practices. These efforts are essential to reducing the prevalence of severe periodontitis in this vulnerable population.

Abstract

The objective this research aimd to ascertain the connection between understanding of oral health and actual mouth cleanliness stats of elderly patients at the Periodontics Specialist Clinic of RSGM Universitas Airlangga. An analytical survey with a cross-sectional method was used for this research. Through purposive sampling, a total of 54 individuals were selected to participate. The findings indicated that most of respondents had a middle level of knowledge regarding oral and dental hygiene, while most exhibited poor oral hygiene status. The Chi-Square test was conducted to the gathered data to examine the correlation between participants’ knowledge and their oral hygiene status. Nevertheless, the analysis revealed no significant association between understanding of oral health and actual mouth cleanliness stats among the elderly. This outcome is presumed to be due to the absence of behavioral data related to the respondents' oral hygiene practices. Consequently, it’s recommended that healthcare providers consistently offer education and counseling on oral and dental care to the elderly in order to enhance their oral health status.

Abstract

The radiology department of YARSI Hospital experienced considerable ultrasonografi equipment downtime in 2025, disrupting diagnostic continuity and decreasing patient satisfaction. This study aimed to identify the principal causes of USG downtime and to formulate risk‑mitigation strategies using Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA). A descriptive, case‑study design was adopted; data were gathered over a twelve‑month period through field observations, semi‑structured interviews with ten technicians and biomedical engineers, and review of maintenance logs containing 312 recorded incidents. The collected information was processed within the FMEA framework identifying failure modes, assigning severity, occurrence, and detection scores, and calculating the Risk Priority Number (RPN) for each mode. The analysis revealed three critical failure modes: (1) Preventive maintenance  of the spare‑parts availability, (2) technician readiness, and (3) inter‑departmental communication. The spare‑parts‑availability mode obtained the highest RPN (RPN = 100), indicating it as the primary risk factor. Guided by the RPN ranking, a bundle of preventive‑maintenance actions was prioritized and scheduled before any equipment failure occurs: (i) proactive inventory management of critical spare parts, (ii) continuous competency‑building programs and certification for technicians, and (iii) implementation of a structured internal communication platform for coordinated repair activities. Modeling the projected impact of these interventions suggests a potential reduction of USG downtime by up to 40 % within the first six months, thereby improving equipment availability and overall radiology service quality. The study concludes that FMEA is an effective risk‑management tool for pinpointing critical failure factors and directing preventive‑maintenance measures, ultimately strengthening the reliability and safety of ultrasound services at YARSI Hospital.
