Abstract

Language teaching systems (especially in Indonesia) are generally still dominative. Teachers still dominate teaching process, both regarding the communication pattern, material presentation, and evaluation system used. In fact, education experts, such as John Dewey and Paulo Freire, emphasize the importance of developing a humanistic teaching climate. In this teaching climate, teachers place students as human beings who prepare their future critically and creatively. Teachers’ domination means killing students' criticality and creativity. Humanization of language teaching can be represented in various aspects of teaching, including in the process of preparing teaching materials, processes, and evaluation.

Abstract

This study explores how SME develops knowledge transfer in Lean management, particularly the lean tacit knowledge. Lean tacit knowledge is very significant in ensuring the success of lean management implementation, yet the SMEs often found difficulties due to limited capital and resources. A single case study of Malaysian SME in automotive industry was selected for this purpose. Results show that lean training, problem solving using case study, factory visit, sharing of lean database and online learning are the common approaches that used by the studied company in developing the lean tacit knowledge. Moreover, the accomplishment of this knowledge transfer in lean management necessitate strong commitment from the employees and the top management support. This study incorporates some practical implications to the organizations that aims to implement the lean management effectively.

Abstract

Outcome based education (OBE) emphasized on designing, constructing, delivering and documenting the teaching and learning to be in line with the established program learning outcomes (PLO) by the Malaysian Qualification Framework (MQF) to improve the quality of learning. The study focuses on students’ perceptions on the PLO at the School of Quantitative Sciences (SQS), Universiti Utara Malaysia.A secondary data from an exit survey among graduating students of SQS has been analysed for this purpose. Study finding shows that on average, all respondents perceived that they werefairly strongly to strongly for all PLOs. The information obtained from the exit survey data is able to rank the PLO by its corresponding mean value in decreasing order. The purpose of this study is to obtain information on the extent to which the students have mastered the skills (PLO) from their own view. This study has been done by secondary data collection. The secondary data was from a 2017 Exit Survey with 46 respondents among graduating students of SQS, UUM. All of these students were enrolled in Bachelor of Science with Honors (Business Mathematics) program. All respondents perceived that they were at fairly strong to strong level for all PLO. The information obtained from the exit survey data is able to rank the PLO by its corresponding mean value in decreasing order. This study will be beneficial to curriculum providers as a reference for improvement by understanding the needs and current states of the students. Moreover, this research will provide recommendations on how to evaluate program learning outcomes.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to examine the sleep quality of undergraduates during pre-examination period. In addition, the effect of examination stress and sleep quality on academic performance of the undergraduates is also of interest. Questionnaire is used to collect responses from 379 undergraduates regarding perceived stress and sleep quality on the first week of final examination. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) is the instruments used in investigating the perceived sleep quality of respondents one month before the test is taken. Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) is used to measure the perceived stress level of the subjects for the past one month. The data dissemination concludes that the overall sleep quality of the undergraduates is poor. Female undergraduates tend to have a slightly better sleep quality than the male undergraduates. The sleep quality shows a weak positive relationship with perceived stress. It is also discovered that sleep quality and perceived stress have no effect on academic performance. The university authority might need to look into the problem of poor sleep quality among undergraduates especially during pre-examination period.
