Jurnal Komunikasi Islam is the flagship journal, published biannually in June and December, of Islamic Communication and Broadcast Department, Dakwah and Communication Faculty, Islamic State University of Sunan Ampel (UINSA) Surabaya in collaboration with Indonesian Professional Dakwah Association (APDI). Jurnal Komunikasi Islam provides academic articles to the professional needs of both Islamic communication scholars and practitioners. The journal helps encourage in disseminating empirical and theoretical research findings, developing theory, and introducing new concepts related to Islamic oration and sermon, Islamic Journalism, mediated-dakwah and religious film, Islamic communication-related studies to its readership.

Abstract

The present research examines the ethical concerns of social media users in sharing information and digital interaction. Adopting a phenomenological approach, 20 students from two state universities in Makassar South Sulawesi were invited to an interview regarding the issues. The findings illustrate four important ethics concerning digital communication and sharing information on social media: first social media users should convey messages honestly; second, they must be responsible in their words and deeds; third, they have to be polite to others; fourth they have to be tolerant of differences. In addition, this study argues that social media content creators and users respect ethnic, religious, racial, and inter-group diversity in sharing information.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss Islamic views on political communication ethics. Through literature review, this study argues that communication ethics based on the principles of the Qur'an are essentially speaking correctly and honestly (sadidan), contextually (baligha), simply (maysura), gently (layyina), kindly (karima), and appropriate (ma'rufa), throughwhich one's communication is likely to be effective. In regard with the ethics of political communication, general speaking it have been regulated substantially through moral standards that have been explained in the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad Saw. The ethics of political communication in Islam essentially reflects the broad moral and ethical principles of Islam, including the principles of honesty (al-a'dl), justice (al-qist), respect (al-ihsan), avoiding injustice (al-zulm), dialogue, tolerance (al-tasamuh), encouragement of goodness (al-amr bil ma'ruf), and constructive criticism.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the usage of digital applications for educational purposes produced in Indonesia and containing Islamic messages in order to improve family communication. This study used a descriptive qualitative method and considered Educa Studio and Solite Kids applications as research objects. The results of this research state that these two digital applications provide benefits for intensifying communication among family members, between parents and children in particular. In addition, the Islamic content within educational games in both the Educa Studio and Solite Kids applications is a means of spreading Islamic values from an early age. In short, through these digital applications, the intensity of interaction between children and parents can prevent children's accessibility to negative media contents that are not in accordance with Islamic religious values.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the audience's response to the da'wah content broadcasted by "Suara Muslimah" on the NU online YouTube channel. The research method used in this study was a qualitative text analysis. Through the examination of 162 netizen comments on four episodes of "Suara Muslimah" programs, the findings have shown that the majority of audiences have positive responses to da'wah content aired by the "Suara Muslimah" program, although some audiences have responded negatively and others made irrelevant comments to the content. Additionally, the audience also provided responses related to cognitive, affective, and conative aspects.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the role of e-da'wah in religious moderation campaigns in the era of digital disruption. This study uses a qualitative method with the library research approach. The findings have revealed that, conceptually, religious moderation is a middle attitude, neither secular nor religious. The campaign strategy for religious moderation is to present Islam as a humanist religion, changing the paradigm from qabilah to ummah, and revitalizing Islamic kaffah. Additionally, to gain effective e-da'wah strategies of religious moderation campaigns, da'wah activists should understand the target audience, be able to create interesting content, collaborate with influencers, utilize the latest technology, and build online communities. In short, it is important to continue to adapt to technological developments and look for new ways to convey relevant and useful da'wah messages in this digital era.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of broadcast media in spreading religious-based radicalism content in Indonesia. Using a literature review, this study found three negative impacts of broadcasting institutions, especially television, on Indonesian society. First, spreading hateful information against certain social or religious groups. Second, the potential for national disintegration due to the spread of media content that is contrary to national values. Third, the emergence of potential legal violations that occur due to weaknesses in monitoring digital-based broadcast content. From here, it is necessary to increase the capacity of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), restore contradictory statement regulations and norms in broadcasting behavior guidelines and broadcasting behavior standards, as well as the need for institutional coordination between state institutions.

Abstract

Webtoon is a digitization of conventional comic books, which is supported by internet technology so that the reach of readers becomes wider. This study examines the da'wah messages in the Webtoon series Ngopi Yuk! episode 860. The research used textual analysis and Roland Barthes' semiotics approach. The research results have found two aqidah teachings about death and believing in the destiny of Allah SWT. Another message found in this research is about a moral teaching that is, avoiding arrogant attitudes. No sharia preaching messages were found in this study.
