Abstract

Difficulty in recognizing geometric shapes in early childhood at YPPK Bintang Kecil Kindergarten, Abepura, Jayapura City, can hinder children's cognitive development and readiness for future mathematics learning. This study aims to improve children's ability to recognize, differentiate, and classify geometric shapes through a game-based learning approach. Involving 12 children aged 5–6 years, this study followed the Kemmis and McTaggart model for classroom action research, which was carried out for two cycles, each consisting of three actions. Data were collected through observation and testing, then analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. The results showed a significant increase in children's shape recognition skills, with an average score increasing from 49.30% in the pre-cycle to 91.67% at the end of the second cycle. This increase was supported by the use of intriguing and concrete media, varied learning methods adjusted to children's learning styles, and the integration of games into learning activities. We conclude that the geometry game-based learning approach effectively enhances geometric shape recognition in early childhood. Further research is recommended to apply similar strategies in various educational settings and explore the use of digital educational games to further improve learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study intends to analyze the differences in cardiovascular endurance based on blood type and somatotype in college students. The study included 213 participants, consisting of 68 college students with blood type A, 68 with blood type B, 68 with blood type O, and 9 with blood type AB from the Faculty of Sport Science at Universitas Negeri Makassar. Cardiovascular endurance was assessed using the Multistage Fitness Test (MFT), blood type identification from the respondent's blood type card, and a somatotype assessment based on an anthropometric assessment. The investigation revealed that blood type O had stronger cardiovascular endurance than others, with a higher proportion of both satisfactory and fair categories. In contrast, blood type AB was associated with less endurance, with a large proportion in poor and destitute categories. Mesomorphs outperformed endomorphs and ectomorphs in terms of cardiovascular performance, which supports the theory that an individual's body type determines aerobic abilities. Furthermore, the chi-square test revealed a significant correlation between blood type and cardiovascular endurance (p < 0.05). This study considerably improves our understanding of how blood type and somatotype combinations affect athlete performance across various sports. This study recommends the integration of biometric and anthropometric data in athlete selection and development strategies to achieve optimal results.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the validity and reliability of an observation instrument for spin serve techniques in tennis. We designed this instrument to measure seven main aspects of the spin serve movement: coiling, toss, backswing, uncoiling, strike zone, follow-through, and fall-in. Using a quantitative approach and descriptive correlational design, this study involved 30 students who had taken advanced tennis lessons. The validity of the instrument was tested using the Pearson product-moment correlation, while the reliability was tested using the Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The results indicated that all aspects had correlation values above 0.3, and the reliability of the instrument was in the moderate category (α = 0.552). These findings indicate that the developed observation instrument is feasible to use in the context of spin serve tennis. We can conclude that novice athletes can effectively evaluate their performance using the observation instrument for spin serve techniques in tennis. All aspects have adequate validity, and the instrument as a whole shows moderate reliability. This instrument can be an initial reference in the process of training more objective and systematic spin-speak techniques, although it still needs improvement to increase reliability.

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of applying perseverance theory on high school students' speaking skills. Specifically, the intent was to enhance students’ oral performance by fostering persistence, reducing anxiety, and encouraging continuous effort in speaking tasks. This type of research is a pre-experimental design, specifically the one-group pre-test and post-test model. We conducted this research at Public High School 20 Gowa. The study focused on first-grade students, with a total sample of 27 participants selected from the overall population. Speaking ability was measured through three main components: accuracy, fluency, and comprehensibility. The results of the study showed that in the pre-test, students showed low average scores—2.33 in accuracy, 2.14 in fluency, and 2.03 in comprehensibility—resulting in a total mean score of 6.59. After implementing perseverance-based teaching strategies, post-test results showed significant improvement: the average score increased to 3.37 in accuracy, 3.07 in fluency, and 2.85 in comprehensibility, with a total mean score of 92.2. These findings suggest that perseverance theory positively influences students’ speaking performance, not only improving technical aspects of language use but also building their confidence and resilience. Therefore, integrating perseverance theory into speaking instruction can be considered an effective approach to support language development in EFL classrooms.
