Abstract

Hijab is an important symbol for Malaysia as a country that implements Islamic values in its social system. However, Maryam Lee sees that the decision of Malaysian Muslim women to wear the hijab is largely influenced by social demands. Maryam also sees that women who decide to take off their hijab are often criticized by society. These views Maryam wrote in her book entitled Unveiling Choices. In this book, Maryam narrates her views and decision to remove the hijab. Maryam also explained that women should be freed in deciding whether to wear or take off the hijab. This study aims to understand Maryam Lee's view of the hijab and how Malaysians respond to it. Therefore, this study will also look at the position of the hijab for the Malaysian people, Maryam Lee's thoughts on hijab, and the public's response to Maryam's thoughts. This research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative research method, namely by describing the thoughts of Maryam Lee and the public's response to her thoughts. Feminist Standpoint Theory chosen to understand Maryam's views and the public's response to her views. The results show that Maryam's view of the hijab contradicts the general view of Malaysian society. So that Maryam's view has sparked pros and cons from Malaysian society, this polarity occurs because there are groups who see Maryam's thoughts as a form of deviation from Islamic identity while other groups consider Maryam's actions as a form of resistance to the patriarchal system that demands justice for Malaysian women.

Abstract

Immunity rights and diplomatic immunity are guaranteed protection of the rights granted by the international community legally through a collective agreement in the 1961 Vienna Convention to the diplomatic representatives to be able to perform their duties properly. The guarantee rights are in the form of the right to do their activities, the right from immunity to regulation regarding assets acquired, including the place of the embassy building. Wiretapping is an effort or attempt to legally invade the private space of another party. At the state level, wiretapping can be used as a threat for security issues. In this study, the author tried to describe the case of wiretapping the Indonesian Embassy in Myanmar in 2004. Besides explaining through the Vienna Convention perspective, as Myanmar and Indonesia are ASEAN Member Countries, the author will try to reveal ASEAN role mainly in ASEAN Security Community project.

Abstract

Indonesia as the largest archipelagic country has considerable potential with vast areas of water that can be utilized, but it must be accompanied by strict supervision because of many illegal practices such as IUU Fishing. This problem becomes important to deal with because Indonesia's maritime potential cannot be maximized as long as IUU Fishing practices remain. The author(s) formulated a problem in the form of "How does protect Indonesian waters against the practice of IUU Fishing?" The author(s) uses a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the problem of how IUU Fishing can be handled in Indonesian waters. The theory used is the Collective Security proposed by A.F.K Organski. In this paper, we argued that there must be decisive action to stop the activities of IUU Fishing and the government is expected to immediately pay attention to the importance of protecting Indonesian territorial waters from lurking hazards. Not only the danger of smuggling of goods and other information but also, activities such as violating ship crossings culminating in illegal fishing. It must be dealt with a strong legal basis so that in the future, it will become a warning for other countries that Indonesia is serious in safeguarding its sovereignty

Abstract

The One China Policy or commonly referred to as the One China Policy is China's policy which states that no more Chin countries may be recognized other than their own. In this case, another country referred to by China is Taiwan, which also claims to be a country that has original power over mainland China and claims to be an independent country, not under the control of the People's Republic of China. Indonesia is one of the countries that implements the implementation of the One China Policy so that it has a fairly large impact on diplomatic relations or cooperation between Indonesia and Taiwan.

Abstract

ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve or APTERR is a rice bank cooperation between ASEAN member states as well as China, South Korea, and Japan (as +3 or Plus Three). This collective commitment is made in order to ensure food security, particularly in the form of rice, in their member countries. Initiated due to the crisis that occurred from 2007 to 2011, APTERR is now facing the global COVID-19 pandemic that has been going on for more than one year. This, of course,  presents a threat to the availability of rice due to limited mobility in the production or distribution sector, while the needs of rice in the community remains the same. In this paper, we will discuss further efforts and actions that have been taken by APTERR in assisting ASEAN members who are in an emergency status in their availability of rice. The research method which this paper used is a literacy review method, which will provide facts related to the background of APTERR, problems that threaten the threat of rice in the ASEAN region, and the latest presentation data to answer whether or not the APTERR plan will succeed in overcoming this pandemic crisis.

Abstract

The end of 2019 to continue the beginning of 2020, the world has been shocked by a new type of virus that at that time could not be identified and occurred for the first time in China. With the development of its transmission, the COVID-19 virus or corona virus is classified as a virus that spreads rapidly. High transmission of course affects areas bordering or with high mobility charts, such as South Korea, Japan and Italy. Responding to the coronavirus case, the World Health Organization (WHO) has taken many actions. One of them is holding a meeting of virologists and disease management through various media, directly or indirectly, to identify the possibility of the corona virus occurring and being contagious. This is a challenge that must be resolved by many countries. Empathy and solidarity between countries are considered as the first steps to reduce the number of infections. In this regard, regional international organizations such as ASEAN have an important role to play in resolving this problem. The purpose of this journal article is made to see the response given by international organizations in the ASEAN region, in the political and security sector during the coronavirus pandemic.
