Abstract

This study contributes to the understanding of silence, which contradicts the traditional thought of believing that silence reflects the inability to interact with others or express oneself. Amy Tan’s novel The Kitchen God’s Wife has been taken as an example to argue the idea above, considering Margaret E. Montoya’s views that silence can be a means of resistance against oppression or a product of oppression. Female characters in the novel can speak words and phrases, but they remain silent for reasons that will explain in the research.

Abstract

Public Relations of PT. Hutama Karya (Persero) Tanjung Priok Access Branch (ATP) has disseminated information to the public regarding transactions at toll gates which are now non-cash. However, in reality, many people still do not care about the transfer or transition of transactions when entering the toll gate from cash to non-cash. There are still toll road users who lack balance when making transactions at the Toll Gate or do not carry an E-toll Card, so they cannot make payments when entering the Toll Gate. The purpose of this research is to study and analyze the PR strategy of PT. Hutama Karya (Persero) to increase public understanding of E-toll Cards on the Tanjung Priok Access (ATP) toll road to minimize the accumulation of vehicles due to lack of balance or drivers not carrying E-toll Card. This research is descriptive qualitative research with data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis by the inductive way as well as text and media analysis. The results showed that the public relations strategy PT. Hutama Karya (Persero) Tanjung Priok Access Branch (ATP) is following Ruslan's Theory (2014), namely operational strategies, persuasive and educative approaches, public relations social responsibility approaches, cooperative approaches, and coordinative and integrative approaches. This is proven by the lack of obstacles in using the E-Toll Card on the Tanjung Priok Access (ATP) toll road and the solution to the problems faced.

Abstract

The industrial era 4.0 requires students to adapt well to have confidence in their own abilities, to have courage to come up in public, to convey ideas and to use technology for the sake of their welfare. This research aims at studying the application of students’ public speaking skills with the experiential learning method. There were 20 students participating in a training on public speaking at the Boarding School in East Java, for 6 months. In the public speaking practice, a student did it directly while the others observed the student doing the speech. There were four steps in the experiential learning method used this research: practice, reflection, improvement and follow-up. This research uses the qualitative method. The data were collected through observations and documentation. The results of the observations are supported by the students’ progress journals for those 6 months. The results of the public speaking through the experiential learning method indicate increased self-efficacy of the students, which further improves their abilities, performance and attitudes. The implication of this finding is that the experiential learning method can be used to improve students’ self-efficacy. Furthermore, students need to practice in front of their peers to eventually discover and recognize their own speaking style and attitude in public.

Abstract

Diarrhea is still a public health problem in developing countries such as Indonesia because of its high morbidity and mortality. One of the critical factors in the spread of diarrhea is food and drink hygiene. This study aims to determine the application of food sanitation and hygiene (FSH) in families with diarrhea sufferers. The research was conducted from June to November 2021 using quantitative methods with a descriptive design. Thirty families selected purposively were involved in the study with the criteria of having diarrhea (January to April 2021), taking treatment, and living in the Puskesmas Rajabasa Indah working area. Data were collected by observing the implementation of food sanitation hygiene and examining food samples. All data were analyzed descriptively and presented as a frequency table. The results showed that 63.3% of the food consumed was contaminated with microorganisms, and only 13.3% applied food sanitation hygiene. 83.3% and 43.3% of households choose and store food ingredients properly. However, only 13.3% of households process food well. Meanwhile, the proportions that store and present well are 43.3% and 73.3%. This study has shown that the application of FSH in families with cases of diarrhea is still poor—increasing knowledge through campaigns is urgent to implement.

Abstract

Making dentures requires an accurate working model of the patient's jaw impression. Reversible hydrocolloid is a jelly-based impression material (class Rhodophyceae) with high accuracy. However, it has disadvantages regarding syneresis, imbibition, and is expensive. This study aims to compare the detail and dimensions accuracy of the duplicate working model using jelly powder (JP) and reversible hydrocolloid (RH). The research used a quasi-experimental design with a sample of 24. The study was carried out at the Dental Technician Laboratory of the Politeknik Kesehatan Tanjung Karang in October 2021. The accuracy and precision of the same dimensions of the work model compared to 0 minutes, 10 minutes, and 20 minutes of delayed casting. The data analysis used univariate and bivariate (Alpha=0.05). The results showed no difference in the detailed accuracy of the working model between JP and RH. The measurement results of the mean central distance from the right M1 middle fossa to the right C cup crest (AB) (p=0.607). Similarly, the mean distance from the top of the right C cup to the top of the left C cup (BC) (p=0.793). Significant differences were found in the distance from the top left of the C cup to the right M1 central fossa (AC) (p=0.006). The study has proven that jelly powder can be used as a substitute for reversible hydrocolloids in making working models.
