Abstract

The objective of this research was to know influence of interaction between the potassium dosage and soil dampness level, and also influence of potassium dosage and soil dampness level toward sweet corn growth and production. It was conducted from May to July 2006. The result of the research can be summarized as follow: (1) Interaction between potassium  dosage and soil dampness level had  significant effect on cob weight without coat and dry cob weight, and the best combination was 225 KCl/hectare with 85% soil dampness level; (2) Potassium dosage and soil dampness level also had significant effect on cob weight without husk, which was 64,29% higher than those without potassium at similar soil dampness level. This was the result for 225 KCl/hectare and soil dampness of 85%.

Abstract

The usage of synthetic insecticide commonly used to control pest has negative impact on human helath and environment. The soursop (Annona muricata L.) leaves had been frequently tested for controlling pest at various concentration and spraying interval. This research was conducted at farmer field at Simpang baru panam, Pekanbaru city. This research was carried out by factorial experiment of group randomized design with two factors, four and two levels, and three repklications. The first factor  was different concentration of soursop leaves extract, and the second factor was the spraying interval was effective to prevent Myzus persicae pest.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find the optimum substitution of wheat flour with sweet potato starch flour (Ipomoea batatas L.) in making noodle. The research was arranged in Completely Randomized Design with three replications. The treatments were PO (100% wheat flour); P1 (10% sweet potato starch flour and 90% wheat flour); P2 (20% sweet potato starch flour and 80% wheat flour); P3 (30% sweet potato starch flour and 70% wheat flour); and P4 (40% sweet potato starch flour and 60% wheat flour). The result indicated that treatments did not significantly influence water content, ash content, proteinscontent, starch content, and elasticity but significantly influenced flavor and taste of fried noodle. All the treatments met the SII for dried noodle (SII 0178-90). The best treatment was P2 (20% sweet potato starch flour and 80% wheat flour) for all parameters.

Abstract

The research objective was to determine optimum dosage of “mutiara” NPK (16:16:16) fertilizer and various type of mulch for chili plant yield. This research was conducted at experimental plot, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University from September 2007 until January 2008. The experimental method used was Randomized Block Design in factorial. The first factor was level of NPK fertilizer (N) namely: without NPK (N0), 125 ton/ha NPK (N1), and 250 ton/ha NPK (N2). The second factor was various organic mulch (M) namely: oil palm empty fruit bunch  (TKKS) 10 ton/ha (M1), paddy chaff 10 ton/ha (M2), and hay 10 ton/ha (M3). Parameters observed were harvest time, number of fruits per plant, weight of fruits per plant, and the percentage of consumable fruits. The result showed that supplying “mutiara” NPK (16:16:16) fertilizer dosage of 250 kg/ha together with rough rice bran mulch or TKKS gave better results than other treatments.

Abstract

Pineapple fruit flesh has higher economic value than the pineapple skin. Therefore the use of pineapple skin in making products such as syrup will increase its economic value. This study aimed to determine pH, total dissolved solid and panelist aceptance of the syrup from pineapple fruit flesh and skin. This study consisted of 5 combinations as follow: K0 (100% pineapple flesh), K1 (25% pineapple skin + 75% pineapple flesh), K2 (50% pineapple skin+50% pineapple flesh), K3 (75% pineapple skin + 25% pineapple skin), K4 (100 pineapple skin). The experiment was conducted in completely randomized design with 3 replications.  Parameter observed were pH, total the pH value of the syrup was not significantly different between all treatment, while total dissolved solid of syrup from pineapple flesh and skim produced was significantly differen. Syrup from up to 75% pineapple skin was still acceptable by the panelists for taste, colour, aroma and overall acceptance.

Abstract

Synthetic insecticide which is commonly used to control pest has negative impact to human health and environment. Besides, it is not effective to prevent pest. However, the usage of insecticide made of plant can provide an alternative because it has less side effects and easy degradation in nature. The Nimba plant (Azadirachta indica) is know to have insecticide element, anti-eating, and able to disturb the growth of insects. This research was carried out at the laboratory of plant protection Faculty of Agriculture and the Laboratory of Biology Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, Riau University. The research was carried out by factorial experiment in Completely Randomized Design with three factors, seven levels, and five replications. The three factors were the spraying of nimba leaves extract on the larvae Spodoptera litura by different solvent and water thinner which were methanol solvent and acetone thinner, methanol solvent and water thinner, and water solvent and water thinner. The treatment of each factor resulted in the different extract concentration of nimba leave. Those are 0%, 1%, 3%, 6%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. The result of research proved that nimbi leave extract using methanol solvent and acetone thinner had better result in poisoning pest. At 1% concentration level it was effective to prevent larvae S. litura which was equivalent with the concentration of 15% nimbi leave extract with methanol solvent and water thinner, and also with 20% nimbi leave extract with water solvent and water thinner.
