Abstract

The paper entitled “Typical Endophoric Markers used by Students of ELESP over Chapter Four” is aimed to find out the typical of endophoric markers which are used in quatitative research papers by ELESP students. In conducting this research, the writer applied descriptive method to describe the result of the research. The writer conducted via online (WhatApps and Google Form). The participants were 10 who have finished their chapter four. The writer used random sampling in this research to conduct and selected the participants. The research data were obtained from three instruments: documentation, questionnaire and interview. The documents were taken from quantitative research papers. The questionnaire distributed and the interview were done to the students who used highly endophoric markers for completing the data. The writer found there were several typical endophoric markers that were used over chapter four of ELESP students research papers, namely in Table 4.2, according to Table 4.1 below, at Figure 4.3, the polygon graph above, on Table 4.1 and based on the calculation above. The writer also found out that endophoric markers facilitated the students to present the data through table, diagram, polygon graph, histogram and figure by referring them in the explanation. Endophoric markers facilitated to connect between the data and explanation as a whole part. So that, the readers could comprehend them clearly. The students got typical which were used from other research papers and journal articles.

Abstract

This study investigates how 21st-century skills are represented in an Indonesian government-funded EFL textbook designed for first-grade junior high school students. Through content analysis, the study examines the integration of these skills within the textbook components, employing Rinekso’s (2021) framework of analysis. Results indicate comprehensive coverage of all four Cs skills (critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation), with communication skills being most prominent and creativity skills less emphasized. The representation of these skills varies across different tasks, encompassing goals, inputs, procedures, and teacher and learner roles. The findings underscore the need to expand tasks fostering creativity skills. Moreover, the study anticipates that English teachers provide practical examples of 21st-century skills in everyday contexts, fostering enthusiasm for skill development in the era of globalization.

Abstract

The new curriculum adds presenting as one of the skills in language subjects including English. The practice aimed to find out the effectiveness of presenting skill in enhancing students’ voice to communicate. The practice applied qualitative design by using a problem-based approach. The focus groups of participants were 8th grader students in Brighton Junior High School, Depok. Problem-based approach helped students to figure out the topic that found their interest and helped them to figure out the important topics to be presented to their teacher. The topics that were found by students not only presented as a description but as a suggestion, critics and an offering to be applied at school. Therefore, a meaningful presentation is a further way for students to express their idea in a good way, so that teachers could show their care towards students’ voice. Problem-based approach could be the best way to let students explore their surroundings and build their empathy. Furthermore, the topics that they have found can be facilitated by the teacher to be presented to the school leaders as their consideration to apply it.

Abstract

Multilingualism in Indonesia refers to local or regional languages as the first or mother tongue, Bahasa Indonesia as the second or official language, and foreign languages in which English is the most spoken foreign language in Indonesia. Such a condition may bring us to code-mixing. Code-mixing is using more than one language or language variety in conversation. To some linguists, code-mixing is perceived as a negative phenomenon for several reasons, such as reducing the sense of necessity to use the 'original' language of the speakers. However, this view might only be found among the older generation. How about the younger generation's perception of the code-mixing phenomenon? This study explores the students' perception of code-mixing in daily conversations. The study used a questionnaire-based research method and involved 83 respondents from majors such as English education, Islamic broadcasting communication, and management aged 18-23. The results show that 73.5% of the respondents consider code-mixing a normal phenomenon in daily conversations. Furthermore, 51.8% of the respondents perceive code-mixing as usual while engaging in conversation, 41% as a positive phenomenon due to bilingual capacity, and only 7.2% perceive code-mixing as a negative one regarding disrespectful reasons to Bahasa Indonesia.

Abstract

Kurikulum Merdeka is one of the government's policies to improve the quality of learning by integrating media and technology into learning activities. Making use of technology in Kurikulum Merdeka and multimodal approach can be an appropriate alternative to help students improve the quality of their learning. For example, Digital Multimodal Composing (DMC) task using Canva resulted from combining technology implementation and multimodality. This study aims to analyze EFL students’ perspectives on using Canva to complete Digital Multimodal Composing (DMC) tasks which applied a descriptive qualitative method with questionnaire and interview as instruments. The respondents are fourth semester students of the English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teachers Training and Educational Sciences, Pakuan University. The results showed students’ positive perspectives regarding Canva as a very useful for completing DMC tasks and is the right solution because of the ease of use, exciting and useful features and also can develop students' 4Cs abilities and understanding of concepts of multiliteracy, multimodal, and infographics. The combination of Canva and DMC enhances students' learning motivation, produces high-quality infographics, and demonstrating their effective utilization of technology. Additionally, it is recommended that further research analyze this topic with a large scope of respondents and with additional instruments so that the research data obtained can be more varied, as well as exploring other digital tools for completing multimodal tasks. It is hoped that this study can serve as a valuable reference for future studies on the same topic.

Abstract

In the contemporary educational landscape, digital storytelling (DST) has surfaced as a promising pedagogical paradigm for facilitating the instruction of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Nonetheless, its implementation in educational settings has yielded divergent student responses, influencing the efficacy of educational DST as an English language instructional instrument (Baehaki Wahyuni, 2023). This study aims to scrutinize the responses of kindergarten pupils engaged in the DST learning process, with a particular emphasis on nurturing students' listening proficiencies. The investigation was conducted at TK Labschool UPI establishments in Bandung, encompassing a cohort of 10 students aged 5-6 years, employing a qualitative inquiry approach and adopting a case study framework. Data accrual entails classroom observations, while thematic analysis is the methodological scaffold for discerning patterns and discrepancies within the gathered data corpus. The overarching aspiration of this research endeavor is to furnish nuanced insights into the efficacy of DST as a multimodal language acquisition tool in the milieu of kindergarten education. The findings endeavor to elucidate educational practices and enrich the ongoing dialogue of innovative language pedagogical methodologies by augmenting the extant reservoir of knowledge concerning early childhood English language assimilation. The research findings are considered favorable when students exhibit an 80% success rate in behavior and answering questions, indicating a significant response toward achieving the educational objectives.
