Abstract

Recently, voice recognition technology is widely used to produce lip sync animation. However, the reference in current speech recognition system is not in Indonesian language, and therefore, the results in Indonesian system become inaccurate. To develop a better, suitable system, Indonesian vowels should be used in the speech recognition systems. Because there is a vowel in every syllable, vowels have an important role in lip sync animation. Hence, features of vowels need to be selected properly to increase accuracy of the system. This process can be performed by comparing mean of formant values of a vowel in a word at each position; the front, the middle, and the back. The results show different values for those three positions. If the values are significantly different, the formant values are unfit for vowels reference of voice recognition system. The result of this research shows that the formant values of vowel 'i' and 'o' are not different significantly in all positions. Formant values of vowel 'a' and 'u' do not differ significantly in only one position. And the values of formant of vowel 'e' are significantly different between each position.

Abstract

In recent years, biometric recognition has been rapidly developed and still continues to grow. Researchers are combining several algorithms to obtain a more robust feature. In this study, Gabor kernel methods, principle component analysis (PCA), detection error trade-off (DET), expected performance curves (EPC), and cumulative match characteristic (CMC) is combined and used to obtain the features of palm print. This experiment shows that the combination of Gabor and PCA methods, using 240 items of data, gives an optimum result in palms identification and authentication.

Abstract

One indicator of a person's health is signal pattern of electrocardiogram (ECG). ECG signals are generated by the heart's electrical activity. ECG signal pattern is recognized by physicians to determine a patient's heart health. Some of the techniques were developed by researchers to automatically recognize the ECG signal. One of the most popular techniques is wavelet transform. In this study, two wavelet packet decomposition schemes for ECG signal recognition are compared to find the best one. The first scheme generates 32 features while the second scheme generates 15 features. Accuracy testing shows that the first scheme produce the best average accuracy of 94.67%, better than the second scheme. Using features selection on the first scheme, four dominant features that produce higher accuracy than using 32 features are obtained. These results indicate that the first scheme is better than the second scheme for ECG signal recognition using wavelet packet decomposition.

Abstract

A new approach in transmission of multimedia application over Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has developed new technologie, Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network (WMSN). However, multimedia data including audio, video, images and scalar data requires different Quality of Service based on the application. This research proposes a new approach based on cross-layer design concept using H.264/SVC and IEEE 802.11e/EDCA standard to optimize the existing protocols. The result shows that video applications can obtain bandwidth and packets end-to-end delay based on Quality of Service requirement during the transmission process over WMSN. Hence, the cross-layer design concept succeeded in optimizing the video transmission over WMSN.

Abstract

Initial planning of cellular communication network is required before implementing new BTSs. This paper reports an analysis of BTS initial planning based on existing coverage area data using ASSET Tools simulation software. Coverage area on operational area of GSM service provider in Sumatera is simulated to obtain 95% coverage. The operational area of the provider includes Sumatera Utara, Sumatera Barat, Riau and Kepulauan Riau. Okumura-Hata propagation model is used in this simulation. In each province, four clutters have been investigated, which are dense urban, urban, sub urban and rural. The result shows that urban and sub urban clutter in Sumatera Utara fulfill the target of 95%, all clutters of Sumatera Barat and Riau reach the target of 95%, while only sub urban and rural clutter of Kepulauan Riau reach the target. Total amount of BTS which has been added to cover Sumatera area are 853 BTSs, which consist of 305 BTSs in Sumatera Utara area, 151 BTSs in Sumatera Barat area, 306 BTSs in Riau area, and 91 BTSs in Kepulauan Riau.

Abstract

Feature extraction has become a very important factor in electronic heart sound diagnosis system development. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a research to find an effective feature extraction method. This research has learned more about feature extraction method, using non-stationary signal processing, Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT) to extract three coronary heart disease signals. The results show that the first signal has an average frequency of 505,56±8,82 Hz. This signal is detected on an average window of 21,44±2,92, and has an average time of 0,05±0,02 s. The second signal has an average frequency of 376,11±2,20 Hz, with average window of 141,67±2,5, and average time of 0,35±0,02 s. The results of feature extraction on the third signal shows an average frequency of 217,14±12,78 Hz, average window of 74,29±4,16, and the average time is 0,17±0,02 s. This results indicates that the entire frequency has an average value of more than 200 Hz.

Abstract

In the higher frequency range, the wall-thickness causes more effects to the characteristic of slotted waveguide antenna. This paper presents numerical analysis of slotted waveguide antenna by incorporating the wall-thickness using finite element method for inner part of slot and boundary element method for outer or surface part. By using the field equivalent principle, the computation can be done only at the region of cut waveguide wall. The solution of those methods are employed to calculate the electric field along the slot surface and further use to calculate the equivalent network parameters of slot antenna. The results show the agreement to the published numerical and measurement results in the references.

Abstract

One way in recognizing mechanical faults of electrical machines is using the vibration signals. This paper studies the recognition of mechanical faults of electrical machines which have faulty bearing, faulty impeller, and faulty foot valve. Electrical machines studied in this paper are household water pumps. The recognition of mechanical faults is conducted using the vibration signals at the frequency domain at various frequency resolution. The recognition method used is template matching for pattern classes. Euclidean distance function is used in this template matching. Based on the results, the highest recognition rate of 100% is optimally obtained using the vibration signal at frequency resolution of 5,9 Hz, and the number of 5 samples/classes in the water pump database. The 5,9 Hz frequency resolution was obtained using a 256 point FFT, where the number of 128 FFT coefficients are used as the feature extraction.

Abstract

This research explores a detection of finger’s movement using Burg’s Power Spectral Density (PSD) as features vector. EEG signal is recorded using sampling frequency of 1000 Hz. Analysis of the signal is conducted by dividing signal into three segments; 1000 ms, 500 ms and 250 ms. Common Average Reference (CAR) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) are used in features extraction and pattern recognition. The result shows that the system can classify the finger’s movement with accuracy of about ±65,37% in 1000 ms of signal length.

Abstract

Paper impregnated oil (paper-oil insulation) is used as insulation material in transformer. The water in transformer appears as a consequence of oxidation process of the paper-oil system and atmospheric air penetration into the tank. High voltage testing is used to test paper-oil insulation with different water content to examine its breakdown voltage. Three conditions were used in this research, which are initial condition, the condition after heating up to 700C, and the condition after cooling down at room temperature for 2 x 24 hour. The result of high voltage tests shows that the water content can decrease the breakdown voltage and the dielectric strength of paper-oil insulation. The heating-cooling process reduces the water content of oil insulation and therefore increases the breakdown voltage and dielectric strength of paper-oil insulation.
