Pensa E-Jurnal : Pendidikan Sains focused on science education research (SER), especially innovation in the science curriculum, development of local instructional theories, implementation of innovative learning models on science education, and also examines secondary, tertiary, and informal learning as they relate to science education. This study aims to describe the improvement of students' critical thinking skills by applying guided inquiry learning model. This research used pre-experimental design with One-Group Pre-test-Post-test design type. This study was conducted at JHS 1 Sidoarjo because of the students' critical thinking skills were low and guided inquiry learning model has never been applied. The method of this research is descriptive quantitative. Observation of guided inquiry implementation, critical thinking skills test and student response questionnaires were data collection methods that used in this study. The research results obtained data: (1) The implementation of guided inquiry in 7F and 7G obtained score percentage above 81% with excellent category. (2) There was an increase in the percentage of achievement from each indicator of critical thinking skills. An increase of critical thinking skills in 7F and 7G were 0.75 and 0.82 with high category based on n-gain score. (3) The results of the response of students showed a positive response as evidenced by the results of questionnaire percentage 93% and 96% with excellent category. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the guided inquiry learning model can improve students' critical thinking skills on energy in life system topic.

This study aims to describe the discovery learning model during online learning in improving students' science process skills. This research used pre-experimental design with a research draft of one group pretest-posttest. This study used two class subjects, namely class VII-C as many as 30 students and class VII-D as many as 30 students which is conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Sidoarjo. The data collection technique in the form of description questions test was related to science process skills which is given before and after learning. It showed that there is an increase in the completeness of science process skills, the percentage and the n-gain on each indicator of science process skills, as well as the n-gain test on the results of the pretest and posttest in both classes with the high category. The n-gain result in VII-C class was 0.77, while VII-D class was 0.79. Therefore, based on the data above, it can be concluded that the discovery learning model during online learning can improve science process skills.

This study aimed to determine the STEM components (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) contained in the VIII grade science textbook on pressure chapter. The research design used is descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The research object used in this study was the science textbook with three different publishers, that are Kemendikbud, Erlangga, and Quadra. The research instrument used in this study was an observation sheet arranged based on STEM components. The data collection technique was conducted by observing three types of science books related to the STEM component in the pressure chapter. The data analysis technique used in this research is content analysis. This study adds up the emergence of STEM components in textbooks, then presented in percentage form, after that determines the average percentage of STEM components analyzed from science textbooks, and finally provides descriptive analysis based on the data that has been obtained in each science textbook. The results of this study indicate that the three books analyzed contain STEM components in them. The average percentage of the emergence of STEM components in these three books is the science component of 56,7%, the technology component of 10,7%, the engineering component of 16,2% and the mathematics component of 16,3%. The conclusion of this research is the three textbooks already include STEM components and are suitable for use in facing the challenges of 21st century learning.

This study aims to analyze HOTS content in two science books with the same chapter. HOTS content is seen from the indicators, sub-indicators, characteristics of material and questions. The research method uses descriptive methods. The type of analysis is content analysis. Determination of the sample using purposive sampling technique in the form of two books, namely the student’s book of Sciences SMP/MTs class VIII Semester 1 Curriculum 2013 revised edition 2017 published by the Ministry of Education and Culture as book 1 and the Science book TERPADU Junior High School Class VIII Curriculum 2013 revised edition 2016 published by Yudhistira as a book 2, in the same chapter, namely the Chapter Structure and Function of Plants. Data collection techniques use documentation study, careful reading, careful assessment of data sources. The results in book 1, there are 9 contents of HOTS material. The indicators that appear analyze (C4) 67%, evaluate (C5) 22%, and create (C6) 11%. There are 4 contents of HOTS questions. The indicators that appear analyze (C4) 75% and evaluate (C5) 25%. the percentage of HOTS in one chapter in this book is 41%. In book 2, there are 6 contents of HOTS material. The indicators that appear analyze (C4) 50%, evaluate (C5) 17%, and create (C6) 23%. There are 5 contents of HOTS questions. The indicators that appear analyze (C4) 60% and evaluate (C5) 40%. the percentage of HOTS in one chapter in this book is 20%

This study aims to determine the constraints of the achievement of learning Science Process Skills (SPS) in the Covid-19 pandemic. This research used case study method with the research subject 5 science teacher and 15 students from 3 junior high school in Watulimo. The research instrument consisted of a questionnaire of teachers and students, with data collection techniques used were interviews, observation and documentation. The results of the research show that there are constraints derived from internal factors and external factors of the students. In addition there are also constraints that come from the teacher. Some of these constraints affect the low SPS students. Solution for the application of science process skills can be maximally implemented including, 1) the teacher should develop instruments such special student worksheet for assessing science process skills; 2) teachers need to familiarize the application of science process skills in science learning. The results of this study are used as input or solutions for junior high school science teacher against any problems that arise in SPS learning when the learning is online so that students are able to achieve the learning outcomes to the fullest.

This research was conducted to analyze science process skills (SPS) and students' interest in learning at SMP Negeri 62 Surabaya while learning uses media Microsoft Teams. This type of research is categorized as descriptive quantitative. The participants selected in this study were students of class VIII B, with 35 students. The instrument used in this study was a test instrument with 18 multiple choice questions covering 6 SPS indicators and a non-test instrument in the form of a questionnaire containing 20 selected questions. This research using descriptive data analysis techniques. The research’s results are obtaining an average SPS level for class VIII B students in the sufficient group with a percentage of 52%. The highest skill is in the conclusion indicator with percentage of 74%, while the students’ lowest skill is in the indicator measuring with a large percentage of 20%. For the average student interest in learning using media, it falls into the very interested group with a total percentage of 74.2%. It can be concluding that the level of SPS for grade VIII B students of SMP Negeri 62 Surabaya is in the sufficient group so that there is a need for improvement in the SPS-based learning process and students' interest in online learning is in the very interested group so that media is Microsoft Teams suitable for use in the learning process. The implication of this research can be used as a reference and separate in designing learning that can increase SPS and student interest in learning.

This study was typed of research and development (R&D) which aims to provide valid and reliable instruments for assessing critical thinking skills in additive and addictive matter. The data collection technique used critical thinking skill test method in form of 12 items essay questions and quisionare method in form of validation and analysis sheets aimed at expert lectures and science teacher. The test instrument that has been developed was tested to obtain empirical validation on 26 students of SMP Negeri 1 Gresik who were randomly selected. The obtained data were further analyzed descriptively using qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques. The data analysis results which have been carried out, shows that the developed test instrument is eligible for measuring students critical thinking skill. This is evidenced from the results of the theoretical validation by experts over the developed instrument had a very good categorized mode by 5. In addition, the developed instrument has a valid criteria (rcount > rtable) and highly categorized Cronbach Alpha reliability level by 0,889. Thus, it is expected that the next investigator could explore the research and development stage until the end, namely expanding the distribution with large-scale research subjects. Moreover, it is expected that from this study results might be used as a reference to the science teachers to measure the students critical thinking skills.

This research was conducted with the aim of describing the effectiveness of mind mapping strategy in science learning during the pandemic. The research design used One Shot Case Study. This research was conducted on 31 students from two classes, there are class VIII A and class VIII C at SMP Negeri 2 Mojosari. The results of data collection were analyzed using the average value of the posttest questions and the results of the scores in class VIII A were 81 and VIII C was 88 so that the average value of the two classes was 84.5. The results of the scores to achieve the criteria for the conceptual understanding indicator based on the aspect of understanding such as the indicator interpreting the highest value of 58 and the lowest of 50, exemplifying the highest value of 59 and the lowest of 56, classifying the highest value of 54 and the lowest of 53, summarizing the highest value of 61 and the lowest is 56, inferring the highest value is 48 and the lowest is 46, comparing the highest value of 51 and the lowest of 45 and explaining the highest value of 64 and the lowest of 57 and the percentage value of completeness that is seen based on the calculation of the percentage of indicators of understanding the concept of class VIII A a percentage of 52% and class VIII C obtained a percentage value of 56% with the completeness category quite effective. The completeness value of science subjects is 73, therefore grades VIII A and VIII C have exceeded the standard of KKM values and it is also proven that the mind mapping strategy is effective enough to be carried out in distance or online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The conclusion from this study is that the mind mapping strategy is very effective in learning during the Covid-19 pandemic on the material of the human digestive system.

This study aims to determine the implementation of flipped learning based assessments, to find out assessments in the learning process such as attitudes, knowledge and skills assessments and to identify obstacles in online flipped learning based assessments. This research uses a descriptive analysis method that is qualitative in nature with data analysis techniques in the form of observation of assessment based on flipped learning, tests, questionnaires. The results of this study are the implementation of the flipped learning based assessment that has been carried out to get very good results, seen at all meetings it has an average result of 3.8 which means that in the flipped learning based assessment the implementation is effective in learning. The results of the attitude assessment show that students have very good attitude criteria during the learning process. The assessment of knowledge shows that all students have a value above the KKM, which means that students understand the material taught online through flipped learning. While the skills assessment is carried out by means of a portfolio assessment which provides an overview related to the achievement of the results of students having an average value that meets the minimum completeness criteria. The obstacles in the implementation of this online flipped learning based assessment are the internet network that is not supportive and learning facilities that are incomplete so that students are slightly hampered when the learning process takes place.

The research aims to objectively describe the learning motivation of junior high school students in online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The method used survey research. The research participants were students of SMP Negeri 1 Sumberrejo grade VII, VIII and IX totaling 90 students. The research instrument used was a learning motivation questionnaire sheet model of Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction (ARCS), with a total statements of 20 numbers. Data collection techniques used through questionnaires distributed online via Google Form. The results of this research indicate that the level of student learning motivation in online learning at SMP Negeri 1 Sumberrejo in the ARCS aspect respectively is 66%, 73%, 64% and 69%. The conclusion of this research is that all of the students' learning motivation based on the ARCS aspect is still in the sufficient category. This also affects student learning outcomes where the level of completeness of student learning outcomes shows less well. This requires a more creative and innovative of online learning evaluations and in the use of technology media to increase student motivation during the Covid-19 pandemic.
