Abstract

Wells are one of the means of clean water supplier for rural and urban communities. The risk of bacterial pollution in wells is very large since it is influenced by the lack of concern and know-ledge of the well owners in carrying out maintenance. This study aims to find out the correlation between the pollutionrisk of wells and the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria at Daroy Kameu Village, in Darul Imarah Subdistrict of Aceh Besar District. This study was a descriptive analytic study with a cross sectional design with 30 wells sample. The study was conducted in March to April 2017. The data analysis employed chi-square test, and from the results it can be concluded that there was a correlation between the level of pollution risk of wells and the presence of E. coli bacteria in well water (p = 0,021), a correlation between the distance of dug wells with the pre-sence of E. coli bacteria in well water (p=0,019), a correlation between the walls of well and the presence of E. coli bacteria in well water (p 0.026), a correlation between well’s lip dig and the presence of E. coli bacteria in dug well water (p=0,011), and there was a correlation between the floor of the well and the presence of E. coli bacteria in well water (p=0.030). The community is advised to reduce the level of pollution risk by monitoring and improving the non suitable con-struction of wells, so that the well condition remain safe and can meet the requirements, thus preventing bacterial contamination.

Abstract

Various programs are implemented in the context of waste management in Tarakan City. The programs that have been implemented are Tabungan Lingkungan (Taling), Gerakan Pungut Sampah (GPS) and Sampah Semesta (Semua Mesti Terlibat). The program does not provide optimal impact based on the amount of waste generation that continues to increase. Waste ge-neration in 2011 amounted to 98.7 tons/day and in 2018 it increased 79.05% to 176.73 tons/day with the level of solid waste service reaching 68%. This study aims to determine the main pro-blems in waste management in Tarakan City. This type of research is descriptive research. The respondents were five people from five different agencies. Data collection techniques in the form of interviews to find out waste management problems. The qualitative data from the interviews are then converted into quantitative data so that hierarchical analysis can be done. Analysis of the data using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method with Software Expert Choice 11. The main problem is obtained from the multiplication of indicator scores with priority aspect values. The results of the analysis show the main problem of solid waste management is the lack of a solid waste management budget (0.133); lack of garbage transport equipment (0,130); habit of residents in littering (0.118); sanctions in regulations are not implemented (0.114); and sanctions have less deterrent effect (0.107). The main problem of waste management in Tara-kan City is related to lack of solid waste management budget.

Abstract

Etawa goat milk industry located in Kemirikebo, Girikerto, Turi, Sleman, Yogyakarta do not have waste water treatment. Waste water from dairy industry contains abundant organic materials. Based on the preliminary survey the results of BOD levels were 518 mg l and the TSS levels were 234 mg/l. The dairy industry's waste water has direct impact on the environment and public health. An alternative to treat the waste waste is by using biofilter system wastewater treatment reactor with bioball media. The purpose of this research is to know the qualty improvement of the wastewater by using this reactor. The research type was an experiment with pre-test post-test with control design, and was conducted in February to April 2019. The data were analyses by employing independent sample t-test with ? = 0.05. The study results show that the mean de-crease for BOD levels in the control group was 6,79% and in the treatment group was 90,27%. In terms of TSS levels, the mean decrease in the control group was 8,98% and in the treatment group was 68,59%. It can be concluded that the wastewater treatment reactor affects the quality of wastewater of Agro Prima dairy industry.

Abstract

Tanjung water, which can only be found in Kelurahan Tanjung of Kecamatan Kawalu, Tasikma-laya Regency, is believed by generations has uniqueness, that can make several foods more delicious. According to some sources the water contains arsenic and several other chemical components that are different from ordinary water. This study was aimed to determine the extent of empowerment by people towards Tanjung Water, by conducting a qualitative study. The data were collected by observation and interview techniques. The study results indicate that there is lack of participation from the city government in terms of funds and supervision, so that gives major impact to the condition and utilization of Tanjung Water as one of local uniqueness.

Abstract

To provide family latrines among general community is not easy, because it is closely associated with people participation in terms of their behavior, knowledge, and culture. The objective of this study is to understand the relationship between the availability of latrine, behaviors, and know-ledge of society with defecation behavior in Kelurahan Legok of Kecamatan Danau Sipin, Jambi. The study was a descriptive analytic with cross sectional approach. The size of study sample was 87 family heads. The study results show that 62 family heads already have latrine and the the rest 52 do not; 37 family heads have appropriate behavior, meanwhile the rest 50 have less appropriate behavior; 59 family heads have good knowledge, and as much as 28 family have less knowledge; 62 family heads defecating in latrine, meanwhile the other 25 defecate on river. Based on the study results, it can be concluded that there are significant relationship between the availability of latrine, attitudes, and knowledge of family heads with defecation behavior. For people of Kelurahan Legok, it is advised to organize latrine and septic tank “arisan” that is ad-dressed to those who do not have those facilities.

Abstract

Traditional markets produce almost 95% of organic waste. At Gemah Ripah fruit market, the activity of transporting until the storage yields fruit waste, that if is not processed properly will cause many negative impacts. One way to utilize organic waste is process it as liquid organic fertilizer.The aim of this research is to study the difference of N, P, K and pH content of the liquid organic fertilizer made from different fermentation times. The study was an experiment with post test only group design. The study sample was 30 kg fruit waste, taken from 31 traders of Gemah Ripah fruit market in Gamping Sleman. The treatment was consisted of two fermentation time, i.e.1 week and 2 weeks, which were carried out in five replications. The results showed that the two fermentation times gave different levels of N, P, K and pH values, i.e. Nitrogen 0.43%; Phosphorus 0.15%; Potassium 0.27%; pH 6.9 for one week fermentation time, and Nitrogen 0.49%; Phosphorus 0.13%; Potassium 0.22%; pH 6,8 for two week fermentation time. Nitrogen content of the two weeks time is 0,06% higher; phosphorus content of one week time is 0,04% higher; and potassium content of one week time is 0,05% higher. It can be concluded that different fermentation time affect the N, P, K, and pH content of liquid organic fertilizer yielded from fruit market waste.

Abstract

Meat traders in Mambal Market of Mambal Abiansemal Village still do not fulfill the requirement, because of their location are close to vegetable and daily goods traders, so that it affect the sur-rounding odor as well as the air circulation that inhaled by traders and buyers. The aim of this study was to identify factors related with hygiene and sanitation of the meat shops in Mambal Market. The study was a cross sectional design with questionnaire and observation as the data instruments. Based on the results, factors that are related with hygiene and sanitation of the meat shops are: personal hygiene (p-value 0,024), equipment and facilities (p value 0,001), sewerage system (p value 0,001), and meat cutter devices (p value 0,001). Factors which are identified corresponding with personal hygiene and the sanitation of meat shops are: traders do not wear personal protective devices, wear rings and smoke while working, and open sewerage system and no hand-washing facility provided.

Abstract

Cockroaches are vectors that can transform some pathogenic microorganisms that causing di-seases in humans. The use of synthetic chemical insecticides for vector control has proven ef-fective, but they have negative impact for human health and the environment. One alternative for environmentally friendly insecticides is Salam (Syzygium polyanthum) leaves that contain essen-tial oils (citral and eugenol), flavonoids, and tannins. The active ingredients are decomposable and also safe for health. This study was aimed to knowing the most effective Salam leaf powder weight as repellent for cockroach (Periplaneta americana). The study was a quasi experiment with post test only with control group design and was conducted in May-June 2018. The number of cockroaches used was 240, all with same size. The cockroaches were exposed to three di-fferent weight of Salam leaves powder, i.e. 7 grams, 8 grams and 9 grams, and control. The cockroaches were observed every 10 minutes in three times (30 minutes) every 3 hours in the duration of 9 hours. The results show that the 7 grams leaves poweder has protection power of 56,5%; the 8 grams has protection power of 78%; and the 9 grams has protection power of 81,5%, and the control is 30%. The most effective variation for repelling cockroaches is 9 grams.
