AL-MANAHIJ is a scholarly journal of Islamic law studies. It is a forum for debate for scholars and professionals concerned with Islamic Laws and legal cultures of Muslim Worlds. It aims for recognition as a leading medium for a scholarly and professional discourse of Islamic laws. Al-Manahij covers textual and fieldwork studies of Islamic laws with various perspectives. The journal is published twice a year (every June and December), and each publication contains ten articles in the field of Islamic law, therefore in a year, the journal publishes twenty articles. The journal presents qualified scholarly articles, which always place Islamic law in the central focus of academic inquiry. This journal is a forum for debate for scholars and professionals concerned with Islamic law and Islamic legal cultures within local and challenging global contexts. The journal invites any comprehensive observation of Islamic law as a system of norms in Muslim society. The journal has become a medium of diffusion and exchange of ideas and research findings, so much so that researchers, writers, and readers have interacted in a scholarly manner.

Abstract

According to Fazlur Rahman, the interpretation of Qur'an verses should go along with the social changes. Meanwhile, still there is a phenomenon on arguing the best solution; maintaining the classical interpretation or building contextual ones. When changing happened there is a challenge to prove the existence of Qur'an.

Abstract

Reward and punishment are also discussed in Islamic law. If people don’t obey the God’s rules, they will not get what they want. On the other hand, human right is such as a formula which contains some freedom such as freedom of speech, express, to have religion, and freedom of fear of war. Islam itself already contains such human right.

Abstract

An accommodative Islamic law is needed in this multicultural society. Ijtihad is an inner dynamic which guides the changes. Fiqh as the reflection of ulama responds the pluralism towards the problems in the society.

Abstract

Masdar Farid Mas'udi is intended to maintain the Islamic social construction by discussing zakat historically. He defined zakat as a tax concept that combined the two concepts from the government and Islam. He offered some concepts on interpreting that dualism.

Abstract

The government defined some norms on doing polygamy considering its negative effects. One of the requirements is a license for doing polygamy from the Religious Court. This letter of permission contains some benefits for the family especially protecting the right of the children and the wife.

Abstract

Roscoe Pound stated that law must be functioned as a social control and social engineering so there should be a space for them to be more creative on applying the laws.Almost all of law holders have the duty realizing the ideal of law completely. Among other law holders the position of the judge is special. The judge basically is the representation of God in the world to uphold the law and justice. Nevertheless placing the judge as law maker is not always easy, because they are only one of practical caretakers of law which their independence and integrity is often covered by some internal and external interests.
