Abstract

In this digital era, education makes learners acquire the appropriate and relevant knowledge, attitude and skills that lead to understanding and functioning well in their digitally dominated environment. This research explored how exemplar lecturers developed competencies and skills in integrating technology for instruction. A qualitative hermeneutic phenomenology design was used for the study. In all, 20 lecturers (exemplars) out of 327 lecturers from a teacher education university in Ghana formed the sample and were interviewed by one of the researchers for ten weeks. Data were analysed using thematic coding, structural coding, pattern coding and focused coding in arriving at exemplars' experiences. The findings show that exemplars integrated ICTs such as Google Application for Educators (GAFE), Microsoft Office and Education tools, and other open-source software to make them stand out among their colleagues, as exemplars. Exemplars acquired their integration competencies through individual learning, colleagues, and online materials. The findings underscored the need for institutional facilities provision and support to deepen ICT integration in universities. Based on the results, recommendations, implications, and limitations are discussed.

Abstract

The understanding of human nature is very important for human resource development, because that understanding will be a starting point in establishing development objectives, development strategies, method selection, and the types of media used. The main problem that has arisen so far is that the understanding of human nature is only based on the results of quantitative research, without considering the information from the Essence of the Supreme Creator of human (revelation), and consequently there are missing elements which limit the development of human resources. The quantitative studies only discuss things relating to physical, psychological, and social aspects; while important things such as the human creation process and its purpose, humanity's status before God, its potential and its development have not received enough attention. To find answers to the above shortcomings, this qualitative research utilizing document analysis technique of the Quran main verses relating to humanity was conducted using maudhu‘i interpretation method, namely by studying verses which are related to humanity through the understanding of the interpreters of the Quran. For the triangulation purposes, references were also made to the Hadiths – the words of Prophet Muhammad – as well as books of Tafsir, the translated versions of the Quran in local language. The aspects of human creation, the purpose of creation, and potentials and weaknesses of mankind were discussed in details by the researchers.

Abstract

Self-regulated learning (SRL) is a learning strategy that is guided by metacognition, strategic action and motivation to learn. But its awareness is low. This study therefore investigate undergraduate students’ awareness of technologies for Self Regulated Learning and the influence of gender, level and propreitorship on the cognizance. This study adopted the descriptive design of quantitative survey type. The sample comprised 389 respondents. Data collected were analyzed and tested using mean, t-test and ANOVA while Scheffe’s post-hoc was used to indicate the direction of significant differences at 0.05significant level. The findings established that undergraduate students were aware that Blogs, Facebook, Bookmarks and Wikis are technologies for SRL. There was no difference in undergraduate students’ awareness of technologies for SRL based on students’ academic level. There was significant difference between undergraduate students’ awareness of technologies for SRL based on gender(p=0.001), & school proprietorship(p=0.001). The study concluded that undergraduate students are aware of SRL. This implies that students could be encouraged to utilize technologies for SRL if they are aware of its’ usefulness. It was recommended that Students in seminars should be organized to students on technologies for SRL in their learning process.
