Abstract

Wikipedia has become an integral part of education in recent times. But its credibility and its ability to serve as an efficient academic resource is still a matter of concern. This study aims to evaluate Bangladeshi students’ perception of Wikipedia as an information resource. For this quantitative research, the authors used a structured questionnaires with close ended questions to collect data. A total of 336 students from several Bangladeshi institutions chosen using random sampling method were the population for this study. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25. Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used to test the hypothesis. The study found that students regularly used Wikipedia for their academic work and classroom assignments. A majority of the students (N=296, 88.1%) deemed it appropriate to use Wikipedia in the context of university studies. This study is the first attempt in Bangladesh to investigate how frequently and why university students use Wikipedia in their academic work and whether they deem Wikipedia credible, accurate and relevant to their education. Extensive research by the authors has shown that there are many aspects of Wikipedia that make it suitable for the learning-teaching process, which makes it a fruitful topic for further study.

Abstract

What a teacher believes and does in grammar instruction is a substantial issue that needs to be explored. Understanding the teacher's beliefs could facilitate a better understanding of the teacher's classroom practices and, eventually, the nuances of her student's performance. A few studies have been conducted on a teacher's beliefs and practices in teaching grammar in the Indonesian context. However, studies investigating a senior teacher's beliefs and practices in teaching grammar are infrequent in Indonesia. The teaching of grammar has always been controversial for language teachers in L2/ EFL settings. The main problem is how grammar should be taught and acquired. The aim of this study is to analyze a teacher's beliefs and practices relating to the teaching of grammar. The data were gathered through an in-depth interview with the teacher and classroom observations. This research focused only on a female senior teacher who has taught English for tens of years in a high school environment. From the in-depth interview and the observations, the researcher obtained meaningful information from the teacher, starting from the beginning of her teaching, then during the Post Method phase, and through the phase for the integration of the teaching of grammar with technology. From the interviews and classroom observations, the researchers can conclude that the teacher has shown consistency with her beliefs, and the several teaching innovations while still adopting the Deductive Method.

Abstract

Various studies examining the effectiveness of the RME approach to the mathematics abilities of elementary school students have yielded inconsistent results. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the RME approach to the mathematics abilities of elementary school students by using a type of meta-analysis research approach. This meta-analytic study analyzed 10 primary studies published in the last ten years. Data collection uses Google Scholar, ERIC, DOAJ, Springer, AIP Proceedings, IOP Sciences, and Elsevier databases. The results of the analysis show that the application of the RME approach has an effect on the mathematics abilities of elementary school students when compared to traditional learning (g = 0.63; p <0.01). The results of the moderator variable analysis showed that the effect of applying the RME approach to the mathematics abilities of elementary school students differed significantly based on class level (Qb = 6.01; p = 0.01) and sample size (Qb = 7.63; p = 0.01). However, there was no significant difference by year of study group (Qb = 3.16; p = 0.08) and type of publication (Qb = 2.58; p = 0.11). These findings are expected to be the basis for selecting strategies for learning mathematics in elementary schools so that the quality of learning can be improved.

Abstract

The e-learning learning method has long been known in distance learning and is increasingly being used during a pandemic, especially during an endemic period like today. Students who are accustomed conducted face-to-face learning as a cause of low learning outcomes. Several studies using multiple linear regression analysis have concluded that the level of student satisfaction with the e-learning learning model has an effect on learning outcomes. Additional analytical methods are needed to measure the quality of e-learning services and at the same time be able to make priority scales for handling them. The purpose of this study was to analyze the partial and simultaneous effect of service equal on student satisfaction in the e-learning method, measure the level of student satisfaction and make a priority scale for handling it. The subjects were 100 students who took MSDM courses. The research method used observation, literature studies related to service quality regarding e-learning quality. Data analysis was done by calculating the difference between the average values of reality and expectations for each service quality attribute. The result found that (1) partially the reliability variable is the variable that has the most influence, while the assurance variable is the variable that has the least effect on student satisfaction, (2) the tangible variable has no effect on satisfaction, and (3) the attributes that are the priority improvement is the attribute of the timeliness of teaching and the teacher providing explanations (guidelines) on the learning materials and the use of the e-learning platform.

Abstract

Education is currently inseparable from technological developments. The integration of technology into the education field provides renewal in various aspects. One of them is the use of technology in the learning process. The problems found in the Indonesian History subject were the low interest and low learning outcomes of the students. This is due to the great influence of smartphone development. One way to increase the students' understanding and interest in learning history is through an electronic form of LKPD (E-LKPD) displayed via the web. This research aims to analyze the process, validity, practicality and effectiveness of the web-based E-LKPD development for Indonesian History subject for Grade XI Senior High School. This study used the development and research (R&D) method with the ADDIE model. The data analysis technique in this research used a Likert scale 4 questionnaire to determine the validity and practicality of web-based E-LKPD product. For the product effectiveness, a pre-test and post-test were carried out to see the achievement of student learning outcomes. The validity test of the E-LKPD involved material, media and language experts. The practicality test involved two educators of Indonesian history and 71 students from class XI at Senior High School. The results of the validity test from material experts were 3.9, from media experts were 3.8 and from linguists were 3.8 in the very valid category. The results of the practicality test by educators were 3.8 and from students were 3.7 in the very practical category. The gain score results of the effectiveness test through the pre-test and post-test of XI MIPA 7 were 0.9 and XI MIPA 8 were 0.8 in the very high category.

This study using a quantitative design, a standardized questionnaire was responded by 298 college students. In data analysis, mean and standard deviation were utilized in analyzing the students’ level of life skills. The result reveals that the life skill was rated average which signifies the need for improvement. The lowest areas were coping with stress, coping with emotions, effective communication, and interpersonal relationship. Meanwhile, their family income, family structure, and academic classification were found no correlation with life skills. However, the degree program was significantly related. Lastly, the degree program was found to be a life skill predictor. Hence, continuous improvement is critical in their life skill acquisition and the school plays a potential role in advancing this.

Abstract

The widespread use of e-learning has resulted in higher education institutions around the world experiencing rapid changes as they adapt to the new methods and benefits brought by technology. One of the current trends of LMS is Edmodo. Edmodo is a free web platform that educators can use to create and manage an effective online teaching and learning. This study analyzes university lecturers’ awareness in the use of Edmodo. The study adopted descriptive research of the survey type. The population for this study was made up of all the lecturers in Ekiti- State. Proportional sampling techniques was used to allocate a number of respondents in each school based on their estimated population. The instrument for data collection was an adapted questionnaire. Descriptive and Inferential statistics were used to answer the research question and test the stated hypothesis with the aid of stastistical product and service solution (SPSS) version 20.0 at 0.05 level of significant. The findings indicated that lecturers are aware of the use of Edmodo for teaching. No significant difference exists in the lecturer’s awareness of the use of Edmodo for teaching based on gender. The study concluded that learning can be enhanced and teaching can be effective among lecturers if appropriate technologies are deployed for instruction. Therefore, it was recommended that Lecturers should be encouraged to deploy Edmodo for learning irrespective of their gender.
