Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of context-rich problems in the form of interactive multimedia on chemical students’ science process skills, scientific attitudes, and conceptual understanding in practical activities. This research is the quasi-experimental study with post test only control group design. The research sample consisted of 142 students divided into 3 groups. The 1st experimental group was treated using a context-rich problem in the form of interactive multimedia before practical activities, the 2nd experimental group used conventional rich problems, and control groups without context-rich problems. Data were collected by the science process skills observation sheets and portfolio, scientific attitude observation sheets, and conceptual understanding tests. Data were analyzed by inferential statistical methods using SPSS 15 software for windows. The results showed that the context-rich problems in the form of interactive multimedia had an effect on students' science process skills, scientific attitudes, and conceptual understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the validity of local wisdom-based ecology teaching books to develop students' scientific attitudes. This research is a qualitative descriptive study to assess and obtain a valid ecological textbook in developing the students' scientific attitudes. Ecology textbooks are validated by 4 (four) validators. The results of the study indicate that; 1) the validator's assessment of textbooks developed from aspects of content validity and construct validity is categorized as valid with a range of scores ˃ 3.6 with reliability for each component having a percentage agreement of ˃ 75%. This shows that local wisdom-based ecology teaching books are valid and can be used in learning activities.

Abstract

Sentul fruit (Sandoricum koetjape Merr.) is representing one kind of fruit that is amount enough abundance at West Nusa Tenggara, but it hasn’t been exploited in an optimal fashion and more castaway useless. Parts of Sentul plant have been applied as traditional medicine. Sentul fruit can be oxidated by the browning reaction when it is pared or sliced, these symptoms showed the existences of phenolic compounds so that very potential as an antioxidant. To analyze the total phenolic and antioxidant activity of methanol extract of Sentul fruit, the Folin-Ciocalteu and DPPH methods have been used. Results of analysis for three treatment types of samples ( A, B, and C) shown their total phenolic: 6,9 %, 12,86 %, and 9,36 % respectively and also their antioxidant activity shown by values of IC50 of each: 43,36 ppm (1/IC50 = 0,023 ppm-1); 40,53 ppm (1/IC50 = 0,025 ppm-1); and 44,43 ppm (1/IC50 = 0,0225 ppm-1) respectively. These results indicated that Sentul fruit is very potential as an antioxidant.

Abstract

The objective of this research to produced learning materials were valid, practical, and effective to improved student’s conceptual understanding. The development of learning material used the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) model and was tried out at VIII-A and VIII-B on SMP Negeri 1 Bandung Tulungagung with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Data were collected by used observation method, tests, and questionnaires. Data was analyzed descriptive analysis quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that 1) the learning material are valid categorized; 2) learning material in terms of practical category in (a) feasibility of instruction good category, (b) Obstacles for learning could be overcome, (c) student’s activity was active category; (3) the learning material effectiveness in terms of; (a) The response of student’s positively, and (b) student’s conceptual understanding increased significant after learning material was tried out. It could be concluded that the intervention design was valid, practical and effective to improved student’s learning achievement.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to produce teaching materials based on Brain-based learning that appropriate to improve student’s learning achievement on the topic of salt hydrolysis. The development models of teaching materials used 4-D models using one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of the research were teaching materials based on Brain-based learning that tried to 30 students of XI grade MIA 1 MA Nahdhatul Ulama Sidoarjo in academic year of 2015/2016. The data-collecting techniques in this research were validation, observation, test, and questionnaire. The results showed that (1) the validity of the lesson plans, student book, worksheet, and learning achievement test were valid; (2) the readability level of student book and worksheet were good category; (3) learning feasibility were good category; (4) the students activities refers to student-centered learning; (5) majority of students gave positive response to learning process; (6) all of students achieved learning completeness criteria on aspect of cognitive, attitudes, and skills. Based on these results, it could be concluded that the teaching materials based on Brain-based learning were appropriate to improve student’s learning achievement on the salt hydrolysis topic.
