Abstract

Each society has   its own traditional forms which passed down orally. These traditions demonstrate and explain the identity and characteristics of the community, which is closely connected to the world and the context in where they are located. The aim of this article is to discover values of Lesa. Lesa  is one of the ancestral tradition of the Moluccans who usually live in groups, eat and live together. Contextual theology approach (practical mode) is developed in order to explore and examine life-lesa of Waimahu people. For Waimau people, lesa is a place in where all family members sit around to have meal together and a right time for parents to talk to children. Then, lesa is applied also to reconciliation. Shortly, Lesa means to gather a family together: sit together, have meal together, give thank to the Lord together, and enjoy reconciliation with God and neighbor. As cultural heritage, lesa must be transmitted to the new generation.

Abstract

The aim of this article is to discover theological notions of pela, a Moluccan local culture, especially the Pela relationship between Abubu and Tenga-tenga in the Central Maluku. The researchers will develop the three cultural models by Hessegrave and Rommen (S: (sumber) source, B: (berita) news, P: (penerima) recipient). The three-culture model illustrates that the Bible’s message came in meaningful speeches and ideas for its sources (prophets, apostles and Bible writers) and recipients (listeners and readers) in Hebrew and Greco-Roman cultures. Generally, the news also has been adjusted in wider aspect, so it becomes totally meaningful to the people in the cultures where Christian message is spread out, the church establishes, and the place where cross-cultural messengers are originated. After that examining effort, it turns out that the theological values in the pela relationship such as the mutual assistances, brotherhood-sisterhood, solidarity, respecting religious faith of one another, manifested in mutual happiness in celebrating some religious events. The values in pela relationships can be established both for pela participants and people outside the pela system.

Abstract

The aim of this article is to explain about dynamic encaounters between Christian and cultural point of views on Cuci Negri, a Molucan local culture or adat.  An adat forms value and enriches a social identity of a local community, so do the Cuci Negri. Cuci Negri was (and still is) one tradition or ritual that shows the indigenous identity on Ambon Island, especially in some villagees of Leitimur. In Hukurila, this tradition is carried out every year on December 13th, to 16th. Since 1986, there had been interpenetration processes between the gospel and the custom, a new approach, compere to the former approach where church tend to penetrate indigenous religion or local custom. Study of the interpenetration process is expected to be a framework of contextual theology in Hukurila. The process of Cuci Negeri ritual reveals a dialectical relationship between the gospel and adat, which gives meaning to each other. This relation is not to weaken or eliminate each one, but gives a value or meaning of one another. Besides, Cuci Negeri is a way through which people of Hukurila maintain their cosmos, in order to remain sustainable for the future of their generation.

Abstract

Revelation 7: 1-17 give a witness and a vision of the writer of this book about the claim of universal salvation. If it can be viewed in a rhetorical situation, usually the party who opens the communication (speaker / author) tries to convince or influence the listener to accept some specific interpretations or attitudes. That is the reason why an important rhetorical method is used to interpret this text, so that the author's persuasive purposes in this text can be known. Most importantly, when the book of Revelation is understood in the frame of Apocalyptic literature - written in the context of its readers who are experiencing a crisis by various oppressive power pressures, but also the crisis is pleasing with the effort to establish the identity of its beliefs as well as its relevance among the influence of various other different teachings. Thus, the doctrine of universal salvation in the book of Revelation can provide a transformation both for readers of the book of Revelation, but also for readers today who are dealing with issues of identity crisis and relevance.

Abstract

In this paper, researchers would explain about the folklore of Eno Karang at indigenous community of Aru with Strauss’ structuralism as our theoretical approach. We would construct the values which can be adopted from that folklore, and also about the interconnection between Aru community and their ocean. Thus, researchers construct contextually theological notions based on the story of Eno Karang. After conducting this research, one interesting thing that has been found is that the story of Eno Karang is one of the myths in Aru which basically is talked about the siblinghood relation between human and the ocean. Aru people are the sibling of the ocean because under the ocean, their ancestors live in the physical form of ocean biodiversity. Because of this relationship, the violation against the ocean is totally prohibited. Based on that relationship, they assume that the ocean will be their judge or punisher, so they must maintain a harmonious life with the ocean as an equal creature in the siblinghood consciousness.

Abstract

The aim of this article is to explore how the Protestant Church in Papua (GPI-Papua) and the Protestant Church at West Indonesia (GPIB) run their mission in the world. As representatives of the church on the earth, both churches carry the same mission. As the church they are called and sent by God to fulfill their duty which is to serve the world. The method developed in this study is the document study which mneans that the study focuses on some important documents of these churches. This study found out that the presbyterial-sinodal system which is adopted by the GPI-Papua and GPIB will create or run congregation as a family. Based on this system, the church should be developed as as family of God through which the church reflects the meaning of being a church. By being a family of God, these churches should not focus more on institutional or structural and organisation aspects of the church. In contrary, the two churches should develop functional church leadership as the basic character of the church leadership.
