Abstract

A member of the Paramyxoviridae family, Nipah virus is one of the re-emerging viruses as a public health concern since it was first detected at the turn of the century in the late 1990s. Case fatality rates during outbreaks ranged between 40% and 75%, with recurrent cases in Bangladesh, India, and Malaysia. Surveillance data indicate the possibility of virus development in new areas since there is virus circulation among Pteropus bats in larger regions of South and Southeast Asia. It appears to be of zoonotic origin, transmitted mainly from fruit bats to humans. This makes zoonotic transmission a complex interaction between wildlife and human health, implying the significant role of ecology dynamics in the prevention and control of outbreaks. This understanding of routes of transmission has given basis to the devising of evidence-based interventions, including the protection of date palm sap collection sites and enhancement of infection prevention practices in hospitals, which will be very critical for controlling outbreaks and preventing future epidemics. This discussion on Nipah virus transmission dynamics calls for going into detail regarding the zoonotic source and mode of human-to-human transmission that enables human beings to prevent and control this disease.

Abstract

Medical practice across all specialties increasingly relies on the insertion or implantation of medical devices, yet these interventions carry inherent risks of bacterial and fungal infections of particular concern is the shifting epidemiology of Candida infections, where non-albicans Candida species now predominate in cases of hematogenously disseminated candidiasis in many healthcare institutions. These device-associated Candida infections represent a significant threat to patient outcomes, characterized by the organism's ability to adhere to device surfaces and proliferate as multicellular communities within self-produced extracellular matrices. The pathogenic process involves colonization of foreign materials, including intravascular catheters, urinary catheters, dentures, and various implanted medical devices, leading to resistant infections that are particularly challenging to treat. These device-associated infections can progress to Candida bloodstream infections, which are associated with significant mortality rates. However, research indicates that optimized diagnostic approaches and therapeutic management strategies can substantially improve patient outcomes. This mini-review aims to identify and address frequently overlooked opportunities in the management of device-associated Candida bloodstream infections, with particular emphasis on Early recognition and diagnosis of device-associated infections. Implementation of evidence-based preventive measures. Optimization of therapeutic interventions. Special considerations for high-risk and immunocompromised patients.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically impacted surgical and anesthetic practice, challenging anesthesiologists to prioritize more emphasis on safer treatment methods. General anesthesia (GA) carries a high risk of virus transmission as it is associated with Aerosol-Generating Medical Procedures (AGMPs), such as tracheal intubation, which would subsequently spread the virus within health facilities. Anaesthesiology societies have strongly supported the use of regional anesthesia (RA) over GA for most patients, especially those with COVID-19. There are several advantages of RA: It minimizes exposure to aerosols, reduces the requirements for anesthetic agents, and has a lower rate of postoperative respiratory complications. Moreover, it preserves the immunological function of the patient and reduces demand for crucial resources, such as mechanical ventilation, thereby making it differently suitable for usage in global health emergencies. This review discusses the difficulties associated with GA during the pandemic. The review emphasizes on RA techniques such as ultrasound guidance and interfascial plane blocks. Choosing RA even in post COVID era is a choice, because it holds an advantageous risk-benefit profile and helps in the recovery of the patients.

Abstract

A neurological impairment in brain functioning causes autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which keeps a youngster from having a normal social life like his peers. It makes it difficult to engage and converse with other people. It should come as no surprise that children's concerningly high screen time exposure has raised even more concerns. The use of electronic equipment has two drawbacks. Notwithstanding their advantages, they pose a number of risks to kids' cerebral development. Prior research has examined the impact of unsupervised screen usage on young children's white matter development. In the development of brain functions, the white matter plays a significant role. A qualitative analysis of the body of research on screen time exposure and its impact on social communication abilities in kids with ASD is the goal of this thorough assessment.Research is increasingly raising concerns regarding the negative behaviour and enhanced poor communication skills of children’s use of screens

Abstract

This review discusses the recent development in biomarkers of dialysis efficiency in patients suffering from CKD and ESRD. The systematic review covered literature in the years 2019 to 2024 with emerging biomarkers and their clinical application along with innovative ways to detect the biomarkers. Traditional biomarkers are the urea reduction ratio (URR) and Kt/V, while newer biomarkers like β2-microglobulin, cystatin C, and fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) receive increased recognition regarding their ability to better present patient health. These biomarkers could dramatically enhance personalization of treatment through precise adjustments in dialysis regimens that may promote better patient outcomes. All of these developments are further driven by technological advancements, for instance, optical sensors and point-of-care devices, for real-time and more sensitive detection of biomarkers. Indeed, the integration of these new biomarkers and technologies may revolutionize dialysis patient monitoring, enabling more tailored and effective strategies.

Abstract

In this systematic review, newly identified biomarkers involve different types of cancer. Their roles are not only analysed but also their applicability in diagnostics, prognosis, and therapy. Examples of such biomarkers would be: SLC35A3 in colorectal cancer, EPYC in pancreatic carcinoma, and ANKRD1 in multiple cancers suggest high potential for the enhancement of diagnosis and treatment in cancer. For instance, with CRC patients, SLC35A3 has poor survival rates, and in pancreatic cancer, EPYC is associated with cancer progression through the PI3K-AKT pathway. SLC35A3, EPYC exist as potential and new immune-related biomarkers in colorectal cancer, including B7H4, the IFN-γ/B7H4 axis, which may have contributions to better future outcomes of immunotherapy by targeting immune evasion mechanisms. For instance, the cross-cancer biomarkers ATP6AP1 and SIGLEC-15 have been discovered, and, indeed, have more therapeutic implications across so many cancer types. In this review, the findings from multi-cancer studies have been integrated to demonstrate the potential of such cross-disciplinary biomarkers in personalized medicine as part of improved patient care outcomes.

Abstract

Telemedicine in India: A revolutionary model of healthcare delivery has emerged to break geographical and accessibility barriers by dint of digital innovations. Telemedicine uses telecommunications technologies that permit remote consultations, diagnostics, and treatments, bridging healthcare disparities between urban and rural populations. Some of the key initiatives undertaken under government bodies like ISRO and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for e-Sanjeevani reflect its vast potential in creating greater access to healthcare. The COVID-19 pandemic has fueled the adoption of telemedicine, underlining its potential in delivering not only cost-effective but also time-effective health care. Despite the impressive growth that telemedicine still faces many challenges related to large-scale implementation, especially in improving infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and professional training. Telemedicine's success in India is a good sign and a direction towards sustainability, equity, and an equal healthcare system for diverse populations and underserved pockets.

Abstract

This article evaluates the role of promotion in enhancing healthcare services by reviewing the historical context and development of marketing in the healthcare industry, which began in the early 1970s. The primary objective of this article is to understand how promotion and marketing have become vital components in hospital and healthcare management. The method used is a review of various published articles to explore the challenges, opportunities, and the impact of marketing on the emotional relationship between healthcare providers and patients, as well as its influence on customer engagement, trust, and loyalty. The findings of this article indicate that promotion and marketing methods have a positive impact on improving healthcare service quality and achieving a competitive edge, particularly through digital marketing and effective brand equity management.

Abstract

Regional anaesthesia has revolutionized modern practice in anaesthesia, and the review will focus on recent technological and procedural developments, with special emphasis on efficacy, safety profiles, and impact on patient outcomes. Recent developments, especially with the integration of ultrasound-guided techniques, have substantially enhanced procedural precision and safety and made possible substantial reductions in opioid requirements. Evidence indicates that such developments bring improved pain control into recovery results in comparison with the traditional general anaesthesia methods. The latter still modulates regional anaesthesia training and implementation through current technological developments and standard teaching methods but still presents problems in standardization of techniques and access. These advances will greatly influence perioperative care, making potentially for shorter stays and improved rehabilitation for patients, with maximum satisfaction through optimal pain management protocols.

Abstract

Since its discovery in Malaysia during the epidemic of 1998, Nipah virus or NiV, member of paramyxoviridae family, has become one of the emerging potential threats to world health due to its uncontrolled rate of fatality and absence of specific therapies. The recent outbreaks in South and Southeast Asia have called for urgent international efforts to curb the virus. Since most infections with NiV bring about severe respiratory and neurological symptoms, treatment has relied on supportive care. There are no human vaccines available for distribution, though some preclinical trials and very limited human trial versions of vaccines are in development. This review article emphasizes on the recent advances in the therapeutic approaches and prevention measures of NiV. New treatment strategies like Defective Interfering Particles and RNA silencing, other than conventional treatments like antiviral drugs have also been discussed.
