Abstract

Hamka was a contemporary Indonesian Islamic figure who was involved in many fields. He wrote hundreds of books on various topics of study, philosophy, interpretation, history, customs and culture, literature, and others. When mentioning the name Hamka, then he was an ulama, while his roles in other fields are a little blurred. One of them is a depiction of the figure of Hamka as a historian. Some researchers recognize and acknowledge it as part of a historical researcher, some even study his historical philosophy, while for others give the view that he is not a historian. There are several characteristics and types of historians themselves, including professional historians, historians of other fields, and amateur historians or so-called community historians. The purpose of this paper is to uncover the methods employed by Hamka in writing his historical-themed works by looking at the intellectual socio-historical life. Through this study, it can be concluded that Hamka is included in the class of community historians because there is no formal academic history in his study. However, the various steps he went through in the writing process and his teaching experience are proof that Hamka is a historian.

Abstract

This paper examines Seyyed Hossein Nasr's thoughts on Islam and perennial philosophy in dealing with the problems of modern humans. The purpose of this article is to explain the plight of modern humans and to explain how to overcome this problem through a study of the thoughts of a contemporary Muslim figure, namely Seyyed Hossein Nasr. In Nasr's perspective, perennial philosophy is a philosophy of eternity which is also interpreted as traditional wisdom. This thought about Nasr's perennial philosophy emerged as a critical reaction to what he saw as a crisis in modern humans. Modern civilization in the West which also flourished in the Islamic world, according to Nasr, has failed to achieve its goals because it has caused a variety of existentialism and spiritual crises experienced by modern humans. Through perennial philosophy, Nasr explained that to deal with the problems currently faced by modern humans is to get closer to God through Sufism as has been done by ancient scholars.

Abstract

This paper discusses the phenomenon of religious intolerance in Indonesia. The spreading of various cases of intolerance lately is a big test for the integrity of Unity of the Indonesian Republic. One religion that is often cornered in the case of intolerance is Islam. Perhaps this is caused by many cases of radicalism, terrorism, and other social unrest carried out by Muslims. This assumption needs to be clarified because Islam never teaches its adherents to intolerance. Amid the undermining of this intolerant virus, love is needed in the motherland. In the Islamic paradigm, it is called Ukhuwah Wathaniyah or national brotherhood. This fraternity which was built with Ukhuwah Wathaniyah put the interests and love of the nation above all else. This conception of Ukhuwah Wathaniyah was practised by the Prophet Muhammad SAW. when he built a Medina society fourteen centuries ago. In the Indonesian Context, the concept of Ukhuwah Wathaniyah needs to be re-actualized to realize religious tolerance in Indonesia.

They were spread out between Sasak people in Lombok between the 17th century and 18th century from the traders and Sasak people who travelled to several regions in Sulawesi and Sumatra. The manuscripts, such as Shirat al-Mustaqim and Tuhfah al-Mursalah give a strong character to the practices of fikih among indigenous peoples in Lombok. This can be seen on local implementation of wudu' and shalat. By the people in Lombok, this was known as Menjadi Sasak, Menjadi Islam.
