Abstract

Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) are carnivorous animals, but also often eat fruit and one of them is coffee cherries. The coffee cherries that are eaten are not completely digested, so the coffee beans come out with the civet feces. In the civet digestion there are various kinds of bacteria that help the digestive process, one of them is cellulolytic bacteria. It is possible that coffee beans in civet feces contain cellulolytic bacteria. This study aims to determine the presence of cellulolytic bacteria in civet feces. The results of bacterial isolation in civet feces obtained 6 isolates that had different morphological characters. Cellulolytic bacteria screening results showed that 2 out of 6 isolates were positive as cellulolytic bacteria, namely FL2 isolate with a cellulolytic index of 2.38 (high reaction) and FL3 isolate with a cellulolytic index of 1.24 (medium reaction). The isolates FL2 and FL3 had different morphological characters in colony shape, margins and color, but had similarities in elevation, gram color and cell shape.

Abstract

Research on the Percentage and Intensity of Attacks by White flies (Paracoccuss marginatus) Attacking Adenium Spp. in Denpasar City. The purpose of this study was to determine the White flies (Paracoccuss marginatus) that attacks Adenium spp., the population of pests that attack, the percentage and intensity of attacks. Sampling was carried out purposively by photographing and observing plants attacked by pests in the Districts of West Denpasar, East Denpasar, South Denpasar and North Denpasar. The results showed that White flies (Paracoccuss marginatus) attacked Adenium spp. in the city of Denpasar. White flies (Paracoccuss marginatus) number 5468 pests, with an average attack percentage of 56.25% White flies, while the average pest attack intensity is 20% White flies.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the status of soil fertility in subak land, North Denpasar District, to determine the limiting factors, and to provide direction on soil fertility management actions. This research was conducted by field survey method and soil test method carried out in the Laboratory of Soil and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University. The chemical properties analyzed were Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), Base Saturation (BS), P-total, K-total, and C-organic. The results showed that soil fertility in North Denpasar District there are two soil fertility statuses, namely high fertility status (T) in SLH I (Subak Sembung and Subak Pakel I), II (Subak Lungatad and Subak Kedua), and IV (Subak Petangan and Subak Subak Ubung) and medium fertility status (S) in SLH III (Subak Pakel II and Subak Dalem). The limiting factor is the low P-total value. Based on the results of the study, it can be suggested land management by adding fertilizers containing P in the form of single fertilizer or compound fertilizers.

Abstract

Growth Response and Production of Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) Granola and Desiree Varieties to Different Types of Organic Mulch. Mulch is a plant cover material, The application of different types of organic mulch will have different effects on increasing land and plant productivity. This research aimed to determine the effect of mulch on the growth and yield of potato, and to determine the interaction between types of mulch and varieties on growth and yield of potatoes. This research was held in Partibi Tembe Village, Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province, starting from January to May 2021. The experiment conducted using a randomized block design (RBD) with two treatment factors. The first factor was potato varieties as the main plot consist of 2 levels i.e. Granola and Desiree, and the second factor was mulching as a subplot consist of 3 levels i.e. without mulch/controle, mulching with ‘Tankos’ and mulching with rice husk. The research showed combination of granola varieties and tankos mulch gave the highest diameter per tuber with a size of 6.63 cm. Provision of tankos mulch significantly increased plant height and weight per tuber, plant height increased by 4.48% compared to rice husks and weight per tuber increased by 21.39% compared to no mulch. Provision of granola varieties in increasing the growth of potato plants. Granola varieties increase the number of primary branches per plant. The desiree variety increased the leaf area of the plant, an increase of 7.57% compared to the granola variety. Granola variety can increase potato yields, indicated by the weight of tubers per plant and weight per tuber, the number of primary branches per plant increased 9.29% compared to the desiree variety, the weight of tubers planted increased by 60.67% compared to desiree variety, and weight per tuber increased by 55.89% compared to desiree.

Abstract

Cellulolytic bacteria are microorganisms that can produce cellulase enzymes. Cellulolytic bacteria contain cellulase enzymes that play a role in the cellulose degradation processes. The purpose of this study was to isolate cellulolytic bacteria that capable to degrading cellulose from arabica coffee cherries collected from Catur Village, Kintamani. The results of bacterial isolation at 10-6 and 10-8 dilutions obtained 10 bacterial colonies. From the results of bacterial purification, 4 different bacterial isolates had different morphological characters. The results of the isolation of the colonies showed differences in a round and irregular shape, had raised and convex surfaces had red, cream, white and yellow colors, had curved and smooth edges. Tests were carried out on four bacterial isolates to determine the clear zone index. Only the L isolate in the congo red test had a diameter of clear zone 2.5 mm and with score 3 based on cellulolytic index value L isolate categorized as strong degrading cellulose bacteria.
