Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has dual banking system, conventional banking and Islamic banking. Bank Indonesia as the monetary authority, should conduct monetary policy in conventional and Islamic monetary policy to effectively influence the overall macroeconomic situation. This thesis aims to investigate transmission mechanism of dual monetary system from conventional and Islamic policy rates to inflation using VAR methods. The data used in this research is the Consumer Price Index, total loans conventional bank, total financing Islamic bank, conventional bank lending rates, Rate of Profit Sharing Islamic Banking interbank offered rate data conventional bank, interbank offered profit sharing data, Bank Indonesia Certificate rate convensional bank, Bank Indonesia Certificate profit sharing Islamic bank in Indonesia period 2005:01-2012:11. Results of analysis of this study suggest that the monetary policy to ‘reducing inflation’ with Islamic patterns more effectively than with conventional pattern. In a dual monetary system, an alternative approach to monetary policy can be conducted using a quantitative approach that is not contrary to conventional and Shariah.Keyword: Monetary Transmission Mechanism, The Interest Rate Pass Throught, Conventional Banking, Islamic Banking.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine how the structure, conduct and performance of the construction industry in Indonesia. And to know how much influence the structure, conduct and performance of the construction industry in Indonesia. Analytical techniques used in this research is to use the Concentration Ratio (CR4) and the Herfindahl-Hirchman index (IHH), which which took the example of 8 Indonesian construction companies wich were tested whithin a period 2007-2011. The results showed the level of concentration ratio (CR4) ranged from 73,02% to 76,16%, then the figure shows the structure of the constraction industry period 2007- 2011 is an oligopoly tight. While based on the Herfindahl-Hirschman index, is the range from 0,159695275 to 0,169852, which means the structure of the construction industry in Indonesia is not a monopoly or not structured approaches 1, when viewed from the level of concentration between the years 2007-2011, it can be concluded that the level of competition in the construction industry in Indonesia is very competitive. it is characterized by the competition of market share among the four dominant companies in the Indonesian construction industry in terms of revenueKeywords: Oligopoly, CR4, IHH, Structure, Conduct and Performance.

Abstract

Vector Auto Regression (VAR) is an analysis or statistic method which can be used to predict time series variable and to analyst dynamic impact of disturbance factor in the variable system. In addition, VAR analysis is very usefull to assess the interrelationship between economics variable. This research through the following test phases: unit root test, optimal lag test, granger causality test, and form a vector auto regression model (VAR). The data used in this research is interest rate (i), profit low sharing of mudharabah deposits (nBH), economic growth (gGDP, growth of mudharabah deposits volume (gVM) in the period 2006:01-2011:12. The effectiveness was measured by two indicators. This study used secondary data issued by Syariah Mandiri Bank & Bank Indonesia. The result of the study shows that response velocity of variable in growth of mudharabah deposits volume (gVM) towards shock instrument of interest rate(i) until reach the final target about 4 months. Thus we can conclude that growth of mudharabah deosits volume through Interest Rate is not effective in Indonesia period of 2006:01-2011:12. Abstract

Development of the tire industry in Indonesia is influenced by developmentsin the automotive industry. This occurs because the demand in tire industry is thederived demand principle for a good or service that appears as a result of thedemand for other goods. The number of motor vehicles from previous years isincreased, if in a year 2013 there was no credit restrictions so the number of motorvehicles will be growing and demand for tires in domestic will increase. This research aims to find out market structure of the tire industry in Indonesia year 2007 until 2011, and describes the conduct as a result of the existingmarket structure. Some tire companies analyzed is a company incorporated inAssociation of Tire Companies Indonesia (APBI) that is PT Goodyear Indonesia Tbk,PT Bridgestone Tire Indonesia, PT Gajah Tunggal Tbk, PT Industrial Rubber Deli,PT Sumi Rubber Indonesia, PT Eagle Premium Tyre Industry, PT SuryarayaRubberindo Industries, PT Banteng Pratama Rubber Co, PT HungA Indonesia, PTUnited KingLand and PT Surabaya Kencana Tyre Industry. The data used in thisresearch is secondary data obtained from the Association of Tire Companies Indonesia (APBI). The method of analysis used in this study is a method of structureconductperformance. To determine the market structure of the tire industry is done by calculating the concentration ratio (CR4) and Herfindal Hirschman Index (IHH).Conduct of the tire industry can be analyzed descriptively derived from interviews. The results of this research is indicate that the tire industry in Indonesiaincluding the tight oligopoly structure. This is demonstrated by the level ofconcentration ratio (CR4) of the four largest companies ranged from 87,89 to 88,81percent. While the value Herfindal Hirschman Index (IHH) ranges from 0.2669 to0.3172 percent. Four companies with the largest market share among other PTGajah Tunggal Tbk, PT Bridgestone Tire Indonesia, PT Sumi Rubber Indonesia andPT Goodyear Indonesia.Keyword: Market share, CR4, IHH, Indonesian tire industry and oligopoly.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of foreign bank penetration on banking competition in Indonesia. Penetration of foreign banks is measured by using the ratio between total assets, total loans and total deposits of foreign banks to total assets, total loans and total deposits of the banking industry in Indonesia, such as those used by Levy and Micco (2007). Bank concentration is measured by using Concentration Ratio (CR3 and CR5) and the Herfindahl index. Bank competition is measured by using the Conjectural Variation approach as used by Cetorelli Angelini (2003). By using panel regression method with SUR (Seemingly Unrelated Regression) during 1998 to 2009, we found that the increase of foreign bank penetration will increase competition of banking in Indonesia through spillover effects on the domestic banking system. These results support the research of Jeon et al (2011).Keywords: Foreign Bank Penetration, Conjectural Variation and Bank Competition

Abstract

Globalization and the open economic enchanced the integration of financial market and the economic condition in several countries. The effects of such integration shows in the movement of capital flows between countries. The potential risks of the capital flows, such as sudden reversal, the pressure on the exchange rate and high inflation and the susceptibility on financial sector, might be be arised. The goal of this research is to analyze the relationship between capital flows, exchange rates and inflation in Indonesia period 2000.01 – 2012.09. The method used in this research is simultaneous equations method. The model equations in this study are divided into two, which are a short-term investments are proxied from portfolio investment and long-term investments proxied from foreign direct investment. The results of the first model estimates the short-term investments shows that the exchange rate and inflation does not significant affecting short-term investments, but the ratio of domestic interest rates to foreign interest has a positive and significant impact on short-term investments. While, a short-term investments has negative and significant impact on exchange rate IDR per USD and inflation positive and significant effect on exchange rate. Factors affecting the rate of inflation is SBI interest rate and the money supply. One the other hand, the results of the second model estimation shows that the exchange rate and inflation has positive and significant impact on the flow of foreign direct investment. Inflation rate does not alter the terms of the investor’s decision in investing in Indonesia, because it was followed by the improvement in economic conditions in Indonesia. Keywords: Capital Flows, Exchange Rate, Inflation, Simultaneous Equation

Abstract

One of the major problems in estimating GDP is the absence of reliable, accurate, timely and consistent official economic and sosial statistics. One of them is that official statistics do not take into account the underground economy when estimating GDP. Deficiencies in estimation techniques and difficulties associated with data collection lead to misreporting and underreporting of national account statistics. The precence of a large underground economy undermines goverment revenue and tax collection. For this reasons, it is crucial to know the size of the underground economy and the magnitude of their activity in order to assess the implications for tax revenues or fiscal revenues. The data consist of quartely observations form 2000-2009 and are taken from BI, BPS and Minister of Finance. Estimating use the currency demand appraach, the first attempt to investigate the size of the underground economy using monetary variabels as a proxy. Keywords: underground economy, monetary approach, currency demand, tax potential loss
