This study examined perceptions of effective leadership in elite women’s soccer by team captains. Data were collected from a range of perspectives in four elite female soccer teams in England. For each of the four teams, data were collected from 6 participants (total N = 24 players). For each of the four teams, interviews were conducted with the captain and the coach as well as a focus group with 4 players regarding their perceptions of the captain’s leadership. Data were firstly deductively categorised under the four key areas of transformational leadership: idealised influence, inspirational motivation, individualised consideration and intellectual stimulation. An inductive analysis of the relevant data which did not fit into these themes revealed the importance of captains building bridges through helping to navigate the gender gap as well as to facilitate effective relationships with and between players. The implications of these findings are discussed.

Given the numerous instances of crisis of citizenship and state belonging which disproportionately obtain in African states in comparison with other continents of the world it becomes urgent to provide positions that address the problem. This works sets out to do this by engaging the problem of rights in Africa and looking at how it affects quality citizenship. This is because the primary goal of the state is to protect rights and properties. The work will do this by engaging the nature of rights administered in the African states. It will provide a theoretical account of how a wrong idea of rights constitutes part of the problem and why the quality of rights administered in African states should be held to be the source of the problem. It will then proceed to address the problem by formulating a theory of rights anchored on an African worldview which harbours the potential to address the problem. The theory will defend the view that rights can only be found cogent and worthy to compel loyalty to its demands if it is rooted in the values and ideals of people and that an idea of rights that is endogenous to African people will be more cogent, valuable and reliable to citizenship ethics in Africa and compel loyalty to the African state. The work applies the methods of expository analysis and intuitive deduction to arrive at its positons and postulations.

This article analyses the current human rights situation of hijras (eunuchs) in India against the background of Criminal Tribes Act (CTA) in 1871. This article argues that British colonial construct/imposition of masculinity on Indian hijras by classifying them as ‘criminal tribes’ have adversely impacted their lives not only in British India, but also in Contemporary India. To support main argument, article also contextualizes gender theories in the light of hijra’s bodies.

Local governments (LGs) have an advantage in fighting pandemics compared to other levels of government. This is evident from the success stories of many local governments around the world. Because LGs are closer to the ground situation, they are able to act more contextually and flexibly. Pandemic containment measures like contact tracing, physical distancing, wearing of masks, quarantining, encouraging vaccination, and social support are easier for local governments to undertake with a certain degree of ownership. This paper analyses the role of rural LGs known as panchayats in containing pandemics, particularly Kerala, which has the most empowered village-level panchayats in India and has experience in participatory planning for more than two decades. The paper discusses Kerala's gains in pandemic management and the areas where it lagged.

This research sheds light on Western use of educational Ideological State Apparatuses (ISA) as an important weapon to eradicate Native American culture. Although there have been huge research on Native American Culture and Euro-American oppression of Native Americans, very small is known about the ideological method of European oppression. The picture that appears from Louise Erdrich’s LaRose is that for Europeans, education is a tool to enlighten the natives. However, for the natives, education is a process of transforming their culture into Western ideology promoting Western socio-cultural norms. Ideological oppression is more adverse than subdued oppression. This study analyses Louis Erdrich’s Larose through Althusser’s theory of ISA which means that people are controlled firstly by ideology, then by constraint. Europeans used both suppression and ideology to obliterate their culture by which they could assimilate them, and there would be a minor risk of resistance. As a result, Europeans have tried to eradicate the religion and culture of Native Americans through education to establish their own culture and religion. Louise Eldritch uncovers the dark side of the educational civilization process, which this research shall analyze through Althusser’s theory of ISA.

The purpose of this study is to examine how delayed payment obligation influences household purchase decision in Nigeria. Unlike the large of existing studies, this study used binary regression model estimation and draws a dataset of 2019 General Household Survey with sample size of 2911 household for the analysis. The stylized facts from the dataset revealed more share of rural household than their counterparts in urban household. Interestingly, the results show that delayed payment obligation is positive and significantly influence purchase decision of household in Nigeria. But when the household is disaggregated into rural and urban household, the result shows that some household that barrowed from friends and family and household that reduced food consumption expenditure have positive and significant influence on purchase decision in both rural and urban household while household that received assistance from friends and family has positive and significant influence on purchase decision by rural household. This study recommends delayed payment obligation for important factor to drive purchase decision by household. This could be achieved through policy formulation that will promote delayed payment obligation.

Abstract The current research aimed to identify Muhammad Arkoun's vision of the Islamic value system as one of the most important symbols of the contemporary modernist trend. This was through the theory of Quranic Values presented within his huge intellectual project "Critique of the Islamic Mind". It was also an attempt to conduct a critical approach to the systems of education on values in Islamic societies on its light. The research followed the descriptive analytical method, and the critical method. This study concluded that the Qur'anic Values theory aims to highlight the possibility of conducting a critical restoration of the Qur'anic moral centrality in the light of modern approaches to human sciences and society. It aims so by dismantling the belief that it is not possible to criticize the values that have a Quranic reference as a reference that is not discussed or touched using the Genealogical Method, through which it was revealed that these values were formed according to cultural templates and intellectual systems governed by the medieval mental space. It also came to meet political-ideological purposes, and that the basis for deducing Quranic values is four criteria: the names of God, martyrdom, the nation, and religious law. In addition, each of the four criteria can result in varying values with varying foundations, pillars and objectives of the deduction process. The research ended with the development of a vision through which the process of values education can be developed in the light of what the theory revealed.

The arrival of new media has generated tensions, arguments and debate about the prospects and future of the newspaper industry all over the world. In Northern Nigeria today, media technologies have led to many changes that are seen in the newspaper industry. For instance, technology has broken distance, making communication easier and the information around the world more accessible; it has shrunk both time and space. This situation has generated debates among scholars, about whether the new media technologies would eventually wipe out the conventional media or at least further redefine them. Within this context, this study aims to examine the Mediatization of the net and Internetization of the print media in Northern Nigeria. The study was anchored on the theoretical lens of Diffusion of Innovation Theory. The study adopted the traditional approach of the positivist research design, which informed the choice of survey method, whereby a self-administered questionnaire in the form of a 4-point Likert scale was used to generate data from the study population of 104 journalists working in the selected newspapers, purposive sampling was used to select the newspapers while simple random sampling was used to select the journalists and IBM® SPSS® Statistics was used to analyse the data. Based on the result, the study discovered that new media technologies posed some challenges like inadequate facilities, epileptic internet availability, and inadequate funds for personnel capacity building to the selected newspapers. The study concludes that the need for newspapers to embrace new technologies in content production and news processing is fundamental for the overall success of the print media in Northern Nigeria.
