Abstract

Crime and insecurity remains a critical challenge in Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory (FCT-Abuja), requiring innovative community-based approaches to complement traditional policing strategies. This study examined the impact of civic education on community-led crime control participation in FCT-Abuja. A quantitative survey design was employed with 400 adult residents selected through stratified random sampling across six Area Councils. Data were collected using structured questionnaire with dichotomous responses covering civic education exposure and crime control participation. Chi-square test of independence analyzed the relationship between variables at 0.05 significance level. Findings revealed that 69.6% of respondents had been exposed to civic education programs, while 65.2% participated in community crime control activities. Chi-square analysis (χ² = 56.842, p < 0.001) demonstrated a statistically significant impact of civic education on crime control participation. Residents exposed to civic education were nearly twice as likely to participate in crime control activities (76.5%) compared to unexposed residents (39.3%), representing a 37.2 percentage point difference. Civic education significantly enhances community-led crime control participation in FCT-Abuja. Policymakers should expand civic education coverage, diversify delivery platforms, and ensure sustained programming to strengthen community security capacity across all Area Councils.

Abstract

This study explored how social media wokeness shaped teachers’ conceptions of learners with disability within the context of inclusive education. Specifically, it examined (1) teachers’ conceptualizations of wokeness in relation to their professional identity, (2) their role in upholding inclusive values in digital spaces, and (3) the strategies they employed to maintain professional ethics when engaging online. A qualitative exploratory design was utilized, involving ten elementary teachers from the Diplahan District. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews complemented by pakikipagkwentuhan to encourage open and culturally grounded dialogue. Thematic analysis guided the data analysis process. Findings revealed that teachers understood wokeness as heightened awareness and advocacy for inclusion, closely linked to their professional identity and ethical responsibility. Participants recognized their duty to model respectful digital behavior, promote critical digital citizenship, and safeguard learners’ online well-being. They also demonstrated concrete strategies such as practicing responsible communication, verifying information, and maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality. The study concludes that teachers critically navigate social media and integrate its influence into their commitment to inclusive education. It recommends sustained reflective digital engagement among teachers and continued research on how digital discourse influences inclusive practices in Philippine educational settings.

Abstract

The development of educational infrastructure represents a fundamental pillar supporting human resource advancement in Indonesia. Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo, as a growing higher education institution, addresses the need for academic facilities through the construction of a dental hospital (RSGM), demonstrating its commitment to public health services. This project functions as a teaching hospital in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine at UMSIDA, enabling medical students to conduct clinical practice. This study aims to determine the optimal project duration after acceleration and identify the required costs resulting from this acceleration. The research applied the Critical Path Method (CPM) and Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) to optimize construction scheduling. Results indicate that CPM effectively reduces project completion time from 147 weeks to 104 weeks, while PERT reduces it to 105 weeks, with additional costs of Rp 580,930,000.00 (3.85% of initial budget) and Rp 567,420,000.00 (3.76%) respectively. The PERT implementation, with critical path A-B-C-D-E-F-J, demonstrates a 99.99% probability of completing the project within 105 weeks. Overall, the acceleration efforts yield time savings of 43 weeks using CPM and 42 weeks using PERT, with PERT offering a more cost-efficient alternative. These findings validate the effectiveness of systematic network analysis approaches in educational healthcare facility construction, providing a replicable framework for similar infrastructure development projects in developing regions.

Abstract

Construction project delays represent a persistent challenge in Indonesian infrastructure development, with delay rates reaching 38% and causing substantial cost overruns and quality compromises. This research evaluated the application of Critical Chain Project Management methodology to optimize cost and time performance in the Undata Hospital Phase II-B Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Project in Palu, Central Sulawesi, which experienced significant delays from 240 contracted days to 426 actual implementation days. Using Microsoft Project for critical chain identification and Root Square Error Method for buffer calculation, the study analyzed 228 structural work activities to determine schedule optimization potential. Results identified nine critical chain activities concentrated in foundation work, requiring 60-day project buffer and 36-day feeding buffer allocation. CCPM application achieved 159-day duration reduction (43.1% improvement) compared to actual implementation, reducing total duration from 369 days to 210 days. Economic analysis revealed potential labour cost savings of IDR 7,398,931,383.36 (59.0% reduction) through elimination of embedded safety time and strategic buffer placement. Comparative evaluation demonstrated that traditional scheduling dispersed 183 days of safety time across individual activities, manifesting as work expansion through Parkinson's Law effects. Even under partial buffer consumption scenarios, CCPM maintained substantial performance advantages, confirming methodology robustness. These findings support CCPM adoption for Indonesian reconstruction projects requiring complex coordination, extended durations, and strategic schedule management under international funding frameworks.
