Abstract

The culture and the cultural product itself that develop in today’s society cannot be separated from the recognition and agreement of some community groups, the philosophical values, or the natural signs that are embedded in everyday life, or usually called myths. One of them is Mandau, a weapon of the Kanayatn Dayak tribe, in Sebetuk village, Ngabang sub-district, Landak district, West Kalimantan. The Mandau is a weapon owned by the Kanayatn Dayak people and is often used for many purposes such as cutting the grass, chopping the wood, cutting the meat from hunted animals, protecting themselves from wild animals, conducting traditional rituals and as weapons of war. This Mandau is differentiated into two categories, the one that has sacred value and another one that does not. In this study, the object of research was the one with a scared value. The Mandau that developed in the Kanayatn Dayak community has its own a message and meaning. The denotation and connotation of the Mandau were discussed in this study based on semiotic of Roland Barthes's thought. By employing a qualitative approach, the fine art elements of the Mandau such as the decorative motifs, colors, and shapes became the main discussion. Each of them has its own meaning and thus it is trusted by the local community.

Abstract

Sexual harassment is a serious matter that will damage a child's future both in the short and long term. The consequences do not only affect the victims, but also their parents, families and economics. Indonesia’s current condition about this is very concerning where every year there is a lot of data that collects cases of sexual harassment and is not taken seriously. This has become a concern for parents and the public. Sexual harassment occurs due to the lack of knowledge of parents regarding sexual education for children and they only rely on sexual education in schools. However, sexual education in schools is rarely considered and implemented. Based on the background, this study discusses teachers’ role in introducing sexual education to early childhood at RA B Perwanida Bendunganjati Pacet Mojokerto (Efforts to Prevent Sexual Harassment in Early Childhood). The results of this study indicate that (1) Parents have provided sexual education to early childhood when they are at home. (2) The teacher has played a role in introducing sexual education through the media of images and singing methods. (3) Learning the sexual education in early childhood is more effective if it is explained concretely.

Abstract

Art, especially dance as an expression of beauty is one of the universal human needs. It does not only belong to the rich and the all-sufficient, but also belong to everyone. When compared with the economy, art can be considered a luxury and is often seen as secondary need. However, in fact art can be found in every layer of society, human beings, whenever and wherever they live. Culture is always attached to human life, both individually and with the surrounding community. The art problem approach should be understood. It is impossible for people to talk about art without paying attention to the messages contained symbolically, in addition to the artistic activities themselves being the embodiment of the functions of certain cultural subsystems. As a dance teacher, the job is not only to provide dance material, but also to take responsibility for students’ behavior which has an impact on the development of learning in class and their psychological. There are a number of things that must be considered, including: the dance teacher must understand the purpose, content, function; the dance teacher must take into account the weight of the material to be taught; the dance teacher must take into account the psychological influence of children. Realizing all of these things, demands are not only on students to be able to understand teaching material but more than that.
